Chapter 12


At last, morning.........never was I so happy to see the light of day. My eyes fell to Rin as I carried her. I wondered how long the herbs I gave her would keep her asleep. My heart went out to her as I watched her cry and wince in her slumber, for I knew the monster that came to greet her in her dreams........her nightmares will follow her for sometime, mine did. Her little face was so bruised and swollen.....how was I supposed to keep this from Sesshomaru? I couldn’t, if her scent did not give her ill fate away, her little face would. Sesshomaru, I knew he has not healed completely....the second he found out, I knew he would hunt Naraku down. Kami...how could I even tell him about Jaken? Poor Jaken.....he defended Rin as best he could. I knew Ah-Un was with them, for the life of me, I could not find him.

I was almost there, a few feet away from my hut. I stopped short......where my lavender eyes lying to me? Kagome? What in the world was she doing here? Wild, waves of thick, black hair enveloped her face. Her wrists were bond with material but my nose picked up the scent of opened wounds.......self, inflicted at that. She was wearing a strange pair of blue material........pants, she called them. Whatever they were, they were way too big for her. Why did her shirt have no sleeves? I watched her every moved as she paced back and forth, she was muttering something. “I have to find her.....find her, the little girl.”
I knew then, Kagome’s mind was not stable. Was it my doing? ‘What if she knew about me and-‘
my thoughts were interrupted as her chocolate eyes fixed on me. She blinked a few times.
“S-Shiori.......we finally meet up after all this time.”

As the bright sun peeked through the window, I yawned, Kagome’s mother and I were up talkin’ all night. She knows EVERYTHING. Kami, I thought she was gonna kill me right then and there but she didn’t........in the end, she was pissed with the both of us. The thing was......she knew before I parted my lips, my heart longed to be with her daughter......I missed her with all I had. I didn’t even have’ta tell the woman how I cried myself to sleep over Kagome. She simply looked at me .
“It is all within your eyes, InuYasha. If you want my daughter, you must swallow your pride, as she did for you. You must stay and fight this with her.”

“Hai.” I said as my eyes looked at the floor.

“Now, are you willing to go through the fire with her? To even things out?” The woman asked me. “If not, you should leave now and NEVER come back.”

I sat up, looked her directly in her eyes. “Hai, Hirgurashi-chan.”

“Good. And, oh, I owe you something.”

I leaned in closer to her, having no clue what she wanted. I wouldn’t have believed it I didn’t feel the sting of her strong hand across my face. I fell off the damn couch. Her eyes narrowed as I looked up at her, my eyes jumped with confusion and anger as I held my hand over my face.

“That was for the bruises you painted my child’s arms with in the park that night. Mark my words boy....I’ll do worse then that if you EVER raise your hands to my daughter again!”

So, she did know about that. I shook my head in agreement, my face still stings when I think about the power she had. The phone rang, still in shock, I watched her as she calmly answered the phone. I jumped up at the sound of her voice....she was frantic.
“Its Kagome!” She cried out....tears poured from her eyes. My heart almost jumped from my body.

“What? Onegai....tell me!”

“She’s......she’s gone, she escaped! InuYasha....we have to find her, in this condition, its no telling where she-“

“Ssh.” I cut her off......I picked up a familiar scent. “Kagome, she’s in my era....she went down the well.” I took off before her mother could say a word.

“Kagome, I....are you alright?” I asked as I held Rin closer to me. Her chocolate eyes narrowed as she gave a half smirk.

“You weren’t thinking of my well being when you were screwin’ InuYasha in the forest that night.” She let out an eerie laugh as my expression dropped. “Oh hai....I saw everything. So tell me....that little thing ‘ya did with your tongue, is that a hanyou trick or can just any old female do that?”

‘Oh my.....Kami.’ I thought as I blushed. Part of me wanted to slap her for that....I had to remember that Kagome was not well. “Perhaps you should ask Koga, he knows all of you little moves....doesn’t he?” I was wrong. ‘I have to ask the fates forgiveness later’ I thought. She really pissed me off.

Kagome hung her head in laughter as she ran her fingers threw her mass of hair. “Oh, that’s right....you know about that, InuYasha knows......hell everybody in this era and mine knows how Koga and I got down.” She laughed again. “Well, I maybe be the whore of the forest but at least...at least, I didn’t screw Naraku....not even I could fall for him.”

Her words stung......how dare she just come out here, invade my home space and throw stones at me like that! My eyes narrowed as I growled, showing my fangs. I felt the wind blowing through my silver hair........Rin struggled at the feel of my energy, I had to keep calm.
“Look, Kagome.......now, is not the time, alright. It is quite obvious that you and I have made some horrible mistakes when it comes to relationships.” I said as I walked away from her. Kagome followed me, I turned at the sound of her gasp, her eyes focused on Rin’s sleeping body..I watched as water fell from her cheeks.
“Kami....no!” She whispered as she gently brushed Rin’s bangs from her little face. “You mean....I wasn’t dreaming?”

I gave her a nod. “It was Naraku, he did this to her.”

“Naraku? But how did you?.......” Her sentence faded. I guess she knew what happened to me by the way I dropped my head. “Oh, Shiori....I-I didn’t-“

“Hai. So now you understand that I wasn’t always so willing.” I growled as I walked away, still holding Rin as she whimpered in her sleep.

“What....what, can I do?” Kagome asked.

I looked at her. “You must find Keade.” My eyes followed her as she walked back into the forest, she quickly turned towards the mortals’ territory. I let out a long sigh as my eyes fell down towards Rin. I had to try to bath her......I knew how important that was to a female who endured what this little one did. I checked to see if Sesshomaru was still asleep. I thank every god I knew that he was.

Slowly, I unraveled Rin’s blanket, gently removing the bits of her torn kimono from her body. Naraku’s stench was all over this poor child. I wanted to vomit....how I loathed him! He left this young girl broken....her hips were bruised, my eyes shut at the sight of dried blood down her legs. I couldn’t hold in my tears.........how could he violate her this way!? Not in all my years of living had I seen a youkai even think to do this to a little girl.....even if she was human! My own grandfather.....Taigo- Kumaru wasn’t this sadistic and he tried to kill me and my mother. Slowly, I eased the little one into the hot springs, not caring if my clothing got wet. My touch was soft, delicate, I knew she was in such pain. Her eyes shot open as I moved the wet cloth.......I saw the fear I her eyes, she began to struggle in my arms, I could hear her heart racing.
“Rin”. I whispered. “Rin......its me, Shiori, I will not hurt you.” Her eyes were blinded by unrelenting fear and tears. Her mouth moved but nothing escaped it.

“Ssh...I know how you feel little one.” I assured her. Finally, she allowed me to bathe her.......the child shook uncontrollably. I cried along with her. “I will keep this from Sesshomaru as long as I can....alright?” At least I tried to.

Rin shook her head as she looked at the ground. Her shame would not allow her eyes to meet mine. My heart broke as sobs shook her tiny frame. There. She was clean....I wanted her to feel clean. I wrapped Rin in a clean, soft blanket while I looked for an old kimono I used to wear as a child. She stood quietly in the corner as I went in the next room. Her body stiffened at the sight of Sesshomaru sleeping. She knew the second he set eyes on her.....he would know. The patter of her little feet running towards me was just enough to wake him. The herbs must have worn off.. I quickly made an attempt to throw on the new kimono for her at the sound of his knuckles cracking. I had not noticed his golden stare, he blinked, as if trying to focus. He sat up at the sight of Rin’s back.......I was unaware of Naraku’s marking her!
“Rin.....come to me.” His voice was calm but stern. The child stood there, she was frozen.....her small hands were clinging to my fabric. Where was Kagome? Did she find Keade?

“Keade? KEADE!” I ran through the village, screaming her name at the top of my lungs. The villagers, they knew me....for some reason, they backed away from me, I felt their eyes on me.....was I that insane? I fell at her feet the minute I saw her.
“Kagome? “ She looked me over, I suppose she knew to. “What on earth are ye doing here?”
I was so out of breath. “We....have to....go.”

“Kagome.” She said as she helped me up. “Ye should not here-“

“We have to help Rin......something has happened to Rin.....it was all Naraku’s doing!” Keade looked at me as if something had clicked...like she knew something noone else knew.

“Kagome, where is the little one.......we must find her. “

I lead her through the forest...it was so strange, I could feel Rin’s life force.....I had no idea what was going on or how to feel. My mind was so messed up.....for all I knew, I could have been dreaming. Rin’s life force grew stronger, I knew exactly what was going on
“Shit!” I hissed out, then covering my mouth sheepishly at Keade’s cross look. “Goman Nasai, Lady Keade.”

“What is it Kagome?” She asked.

“Sesshomaru......he’s awake.”

You know, it felt good to smile....haven’t done it in so long. My eyes softened as she laughed, tossing back her red hair.
“See, I told you I could make you laugh.” She smiled at me. Ayame, she was always so nice, even when I picked Kagome over her, when I picked Aaliyah over her........Ayame still stuck with me. Kami, did I even deserve such a friend? My eyes darted towards her as she pulled on one of her ponytails. I caught her emerald gaze.
“Yeah?”

“Huh? Oh, its nothing.” She said and began biting her lower lip. I knew she wanted to ask me something. She always did that. I threw my arm over her shoulder.
“Out with it.”

“Okay, okay. Its...well, have you seen Kagome?”

“Hmm.....not since I saw her at her home. It hurt me to see her like that, so disturbed, especially since its my fault.” My eyes fell to the ground. I damn near jumped at the feel of Ayame’s soft hand on my chin.

“Hey.” She whispered softly as I looked up at her. “You are not to blame, not fully. Kagome’s mental breakdown is NOT about fault nor blame........this is about her taking on so much pain and not having a way to deal with it. Sometimes, things happen, we get way off track and little by little, certain circumstances can and will break us down, in more ways then one”. I never knew how wise Ayame was......never did she look as beautiful as she did at that moment. She gave me a warm smile as I leaned in close to her.

“Ugh.....I thought I smelled ‘day-old wolf”.

I growled low...I knew it was that dirty mutt with that annoying, scratchy voice. Ayame snickered quietly, as if she knew what I was thinking....could have killed him for ruining such a nice mood.
“What is it, mutt?”

“Look, have you seen Kagome?”

My eyes widened. “She ain’t around here but isn’t she at home?”

I watched him as his eyes shifted. “She was but-“

“But what? You can’t even take care of her in her era can you? Stupid dog!:”

He jumped in my face. “Piss off, wolf.....you’re part of the reason she’s in the frame of mine she’s in right now ‘ya know!”

“Oh really? Then I guess you fuckin’ Shiori in te woods is my fault to, huh?” I growled, not noticing Ayame as she jumped from the tree branch. She quietly stepped in between us.

“OKAY!” She yelled over our hurling insults at one another. Her green eyes shifted from InuYasha to me. “You two have got to get passed all of this. Koga, you were wrong for messing with her, for coming down on her the way you did..”

“Yeah, ‘ya mangy wolf! So damn self righteous!” That filthy little hanyou roared back at me. Ayame sighed with a smile......he was so dense, unaware that she was about to dig in his ass as well.

“InuYasha, lets not act like you’re the victim here.”

“Kagome cheated on me.” He was already defensive.

“Hai. It was you however that chose to forgive her and work through it. Yes, she did lie about something else BUT you were wrong, you cheated on Kagome, two wrongs do not make the shit right. It wasn’t right to use Shiori like that either. “

“Damn! How the hell did you know? What is it with you youkai women....’ya all talk to much!”

“Well, be that as it may, you didn’t help matters much. Besides, its not about fault......if you REALLY love Kagome then let it go......help her. Stop the blame game and hep her.”

For the first time I’ve ever seen, InuYasha was speechless. Hell, it served the mutt right.

“Rin....talk to me. What happened? What did that bastard do to you....TELL ME!” He growled as he shook her. I quickly scooped the frightened child up, snatching her from his grasp. Angry golden eyes met with me. I walked into the next room, gently placing Rin on the futon, I watched as she laid there curled up in a ball of fear. I grabbed the youkai, pulling him outside.
“What is the meaning of this? Where is Jaken?”

“Jaken is dead!” I covered my mouth at the way I blurted it out. I knew he was hurt by the way he blinked his eyes. He was taken back by my news. “Naraku killed him....Rin saw the whole thing.” Silence fell on him as he swallowed hard. Sesshomaru tried his best to maintain his stoic demeanor.....his heart would not allow it, not this time.

“What of Rin? What did he do to her?” I could barely hear his whisper. I walked up to him, placing my hand on his shoulder

“Sesshomaru, onegai.......do not do this to yourself....you know just as I do what happened.”
He jerked away from me.

“I said, tell me.” His growl was low, dangerous.

“She was attacked. He forced himself on that child.” I said it......I suppose he needed to hear it, to make sure this was no dream or illusion. I was not prepared for this....his tears of complete rage. He unleashed a howl that could be heard in our era and the next. I didn’t know whether to hold him or run away. I chose to stay still, quiet.

“WHY?!...KOROSE NARAKU!.........OMAI O KOROSU!”

I shivered at the piercing sound. I wanted to run....my eyes widened at the sight of venom, dripping from his growing claws, burning holes into the earth. ......his eyes shifted from a soft amber to the color of fresh blood..........blood, that was just what Sesshomaru was after. I could pick up the sound of his heart beating faster then ever before. I turned my head quickly, only to find Rin clinging to the door way, she was frightened.....her eyes never witness her guardian in such rare, rabid form. Her mouth dropped open at the sight of his fangs as they grew. I swallowed hard as I jumped in front of him. His hair was blowing wildly in the morning breeze.
My hands shook as I caressed his cheeks. I looked into red eyes.......the Sesshomaru I knew was almost gone.
“Sesshomaru.....stop it.....you have to fight it!” I cuffed his cheeks harder. “Sesshomaru.....Rin can see you, right now.........you must try”. I looked down, his was bleeding through his kimono. His eyes narrowed as he fought to tame his inner beast. Red eyes followed the vibration of his Tenseiga.

“I want to kill”. He growled, his fists were clenched as he continued to hold back the venomous dog that pulled at his soul to be unleashed. “How dare he defile my daughter that way!”

“Ssh.....I know.....we will get him but not now, not like this. She needs you to be strong for her.” I continued to talk to him, in the back of my mind, I wondered if he knew the display of emotion and love he showed for this child.

“Shiori is correct, Sesshomaru-sama.”

I turned around, a sigh of relief came from my lips. Keade.....she was finally here. I stepped aside as the old woman approached him. She was unafraid as she walked towards him, she chanted something....I had no idea what is was. Kagome and I watched as Keade’s touch calmed him. His eyes were a soft golden hue......slowly, his fangs were no longer a threat. Wild, untamed silver hair no longer blowing though the breeze.
“What have you done to me, human?” He asked, he looked confused.

“Nothing ye did not need.” She told him in a motherly manner. “Ye must understand, that little one needs ye to be strong. Ye are her guardian....the fates had that written long ago.”

“Keade.” Kagome interrupted. “I don’t understand....why could I feel Rin’s life force? Why are we so connected and what does Shiori have to do with this?”

I watched as Sesshomaru picked Rin up. He said nothing as he shut his eyes, holding her close to him. Tears fell from his eyes, I knew he was still listening. Keade cleared her throat.
“Still, ye have not picked up on any of this? Any other mortal child would have died from such an attack. Rin is not an ordinary little girl.”

Sesshomaru’s eyes slowly opened. He studied the old woman as she spoke.

“Rin is a priestess.....a miko just like you and Kikyo. She is stronger then the both of ye, however.”

“How is that possible....she ‘s just a child?” Kagome asked.

“The Tenseiga. InuTaishou’s fang is stronger then we knew.” The old lady turned to Sesshomaru and I. “It is was to ye both to nurture the little one’s powers.”
