Kat walked out of the shower and wrapped her towel around her. She was almost dreading going out into the main area of the s. Th. They had all agreed that showers were necessary before sitting down talk, and Sakura had been insistent that she call Jack before the gossiping started. She walked out of the bathroom and sat down on the edge of the bed. The suite was set up really nice. It had two beds in each room and a pull out couch in the main area. Kat and Val had taken one room, Sakura and Stacy had taken the other, leaving Chris with the pull out, joking that they were just afraid to share a room with a real woman.
Kat pulled on her pajamas and started combing the knots out of her hair. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell her friends about Sesshoumaru. It had all just seemed so magical and to sit there and squeal about it, like they would have with every other guy seemed wrong. She finished pulling the comb through her hair and began weaving it into her customary braid. She didn’t usually bother doing anything different with it, but she was glad Val had talked her into letting Chris pull it up for her. She had noticed his eyes being drawn to it several times. Maybe he’s never seen red hair before. Well that’s just a dumb thought. He told you he has an office in New York and it’s not like you’re the only red head in the world. She wrapped the hair tie around the bottom of the braid and stood up. Time to run the gauntlet.
Kat walked into the main area. Chris and Val were sprawled out on Chris’s bed. Stacy was curled up in the lounge chair and Sakura was sitting on the counter that separated the mini kitchen from the rest of the suite, smiling happily as she talked on the phone. Stacy saw her first and turned to yell at Sakura.
“Ok we get the point you love Jack, he loves you. Now get off the phone so we can hear the dirt from Kat!” Sakura stuck her tongue out at Stacy.
“Ok baby, I need to go before these brats lynch me. Jack says Good night everyone,” she told them.
“We love you Jack,” they chorused in unison, earning a glare from Sakura as she hung up the phone. Kat walked over to the pull out bed and shoved Chris over a few feet, ignoring her grumpy protests.
“You want me to talk then let me comfortable,” she told her. She rolled over onto her stomach and cupped her chin in her hands.
“So?” asked Stacy, impatiently. “Spill!” The others nodded in agreement. She frowned and decided to recite the information as fast as she could, just to get it over with.
“Well, his name is Sesshoumaru Takahashi. He lives here right now, but he’s actually going to be living in America for a while for busineeasoeasons. He’s thirty one and he’s the head of a business.” Sakura raised an eyebrow in surprise.
“Are you talking THE Sesshoumaru Takahashi?” she exclaimed. Kat nodded while the other’s looked confused. Leave it to Sakura to figure out immediately. Her family was had emigrated from Japan before Sakura had been born. But they had making a point of raising her with as much knowledge of Japan as possible. Sakura dove into her bag and pulled out her laptop. While she started plugging it in, Kat explained Takahashi WorldCorp. To the others.
“Are you telling me that you got picked up by a billionaire, Kit Kat?” squealed Stacy. “That’s utterly amazing!”
“Its’ f-ing ponderous, that’s what I think,” remarked Chris suspiciously. “What would a multi-billionaire be doing at a dance club?”
“Chris has a point,” agreed Val. “How do you know this guy wasn’t bullshitting you. It could have just been an attempt to impress you. It’s pretty well known that most other countries think Americans are a bunch of idiots.”
“Well if you guys just give me a sec, I’ll be able to tell you if she got scammed or not,” said Sakura as she typed something into the computer.
“Stupid dial up connection, so damn slow, ah ha!” she shouted triumphantly. “Get over here and check this out.”
“What is it?” asked Kat as they gathered around the computer.
“Business Weekly did an article about Takahashi WorldCorp.’s latest takeover about two weeks ago and I think there was a picture…” she trailed off as Sesshoumaru’s picture loaded onto the screen. The girls went completely silent as they stared at him. He looked just like he had the temple. Dark business suit, hair pulled back. He had stared at the camera with a bored look on his face. Kat felt a small thrill run through her as she looked at those now familiar eyes.
“Holy shit, Kat,” whispered Val. “He’s for real.”
“Are you going to see him again?” asked Chris. Kat nodded.
“He gave me his phone number in America. He asked me to have dinner with him and I said yes.” The girls stared at the computer in stunned silence. At least until Stacy let out a wail.
“How the hell do you do this Kat?” she wailed. Kat stared at her in confusion.
“How the hell do I what?” she asked. Stacy rolled her eyed and flopped down on the lounge chair.
“Oh come off it Kat. You are the single luckiest person I have ever met in my life. Here you are, twenty-four years old, and you’re all ready rich and famous! You have two New York Times bestsellers, you practically paid for this entire trip, and now you have one of the world’s richest men asking you on date. And he’s incredibly hot to top it all off.” Kat turned red, but before she could speak, Val jumped in.
“You know what Stace? You are a real ass sometimes. Kat just barely survived the worst year of her life and you’re bitching about a guy liking her? What the hell is wrong with you?” Stacy had the grace to turn red and look away.
“Sorry Kat. That was really bitchy of me.” Kat gave Stacy a hug and then back around, hiding the hurt that Stacy had brought with her words. She knew she would be over by the morning so she didn’t pursue the subject.
“Besides,” remarChriChris, “This is Kat we’re talking about. When has she ever met a decent guy? This might just be typical Kat bad judgment coming into play once again.”
“No he really wasn’t,” protested Kat. “He was….different. I’ve never met anyone like him before. He helped me into my chair, offered his arm when he walking. He was a complete gentleman. Like a guy out of one of my books.” She closed her eyes. How could she explain something that she didn’t even understand herself?
“When we were talking, it was like I knew him all ready. The conversation was awkward or new. I mean we didn’t know anything about each other, but it felt like I was talking with someone I’ve known for years. And he made me feel….he made me feel like I was amazing. Like I was the most important thing in the world and nothing else mattered as long as he could sit there and talk to me.” She closed her mouth, not sure what else to say.
“Wow,” said Chris. “If there were more guys like that out there, I might even consider giving men another chance.” The girls burst into laughter, the solemn moment forgotten. After a few minutes of giggles they said good night and retired to their beds.
She sat under a tree, watching the sky. The man approached her, but did not leave the shadows. Her companion stood there watching her silently. She could not see his face, but had no doubt that he gazed at her with his typical combination of boredom and contempt. “Why do you continue to come out here by yourself? Do you wish for your death?” he asked her.
“No,” she replied. “I just needed to be alone.”
“If you want solitude, why do you travel with a pack?”
“I don’t want to be alone all of the time. Just every now and then. It helps me sort out my thoughts. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to be with my friends. It’s just that sometimes the quiet is helpful.” Her companion sniffed distastefully at her.
“If you are not even from here, why do you bother? Their quest is no concern of yours.”
“Yes it is. They’re my friends. That makes it my business.” She sighed softly. It was so impossible to try and explain things to him. You needed a heart to understand feelings. Maybe that was why he was so beautiful to look at. No one that was real could ever be that perfect looking.
“ Besides, it’s my fault it broke to begin with. The least I can do is help make it right.”
“But it has no bearing on you. Why bother with it?”
“Because it’s the right thio doo do.”
“You make no sense, miko.”
“I make perfect sense. You’re just too blind to see it.”
Kat woke up gasping for breath. She was drenched with sweat and judging from how her eyes felt she had been crying. She sat up and tried to catch her breath. She covered her face with her hands and felt the tears rolling down che cheeks. She felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see Val sitting next to her. Val wrapped her armsund und Kat as she cried.
After a few minutes, she pulled herself together. The dream was all ready fading. All she could remember was a few fragments of a conversation. And what she could remember didn’t make any sense.
“You had one of those dreams again didn’t you?” asked Val. Kat nodded. For as long as she could remember she had been having these dreams. She could never remember them after she woke up, but the end result was always the same. She would wake up crying and sometimes screaming. And always sweat drenched and gasping for breath as if just the strain of having the dream was physically exhausting.
It hurt something in her heart to have these dreams. She knew if just once she could remember it wouldn’t hurt so badly. Somehow she knew it was hurting her worse to try and remember them than it would to actually remember them. She gave Val a small smile as she tried to pull herself together.
“I’m gonna go shower. Those dreams always leave me feeling icky. Go back to sleep.” Val nodded and went back over to her own bed. She knew her dreams worried her friends, but there was nothing that could be done. She had been having these dreams for so long now, they were a part of her normal nightly routine. Go to sleep, wake up, shower off the sweat, change into a dry pair of pajamas, and go back to bed. Some girls have ridiculous amounts of shoes; I have ridiculous amounts of pajamas. As she showered herself off, she felt her mind and body slowly returning to normal, and by the time she went back to bed, her nightly troubles were nearly forgotten.
