Chapter 12: A Word’s Power

Dawn came to fast for Kagome. After a sleepless night she felt tired and irritable, and her determination found itself scattering. Brenna came to wake her with a jar of fresh water for her to wash. When Kagome saw no new clothes she asked her where they where.

“Am I going to use this all day?” She said referring to the brown robe that adorned her body.

“Yes, that is what common slaves use. Don’t forget to tie your bandana tight so it wont come off. You must never show your hair unless they order you.” Brenna answered.

“Why is it you use those horrid things?”

“Well, to cover our heads, what else for?”

“Yes, I can see that, but what I don’t understand is why you cover your hair.”

“Oh! You mean why cover our hairs? Well, it is to hide the short hair. You see they cut our hair so they can difference us from the Romans or the free people, see?” As she talked she raised one hand to remove the bandana showing Kagome what laid beneath it.

Kagome gasped when she saw the short hair, and by short she meant boy short, with a few tendrils grazing the nape of her neck. Subconsciously she reached for hers, horror showing in her face.

Brenna saw her face and said with a smile: “Don’t worry, nobody is going to cut that beautiful hair of yours.”

“How do you know? My god, these men are savages, how can they do that??”

“Well, I am used to it, as most of the slaves here. And I know because your hair is one of the general’s attraction for you.”

“Perhaps.” She said nothing else as she used the jar with fresh water to wash herself, before putting the robe on again. When she signaled Brenna indicating she was ready, the girl made a gesture for her to follow.

They walked through the halls that were swarming with slaves doing different chores. As she came to a room, that Kagome realized was the kitchen, a boy was waiting there with bread and a bowl of something Kagome didn’t even want to find out what it was.

“Where were you? It’s already late! You should have hurried, you want Sim to be whipped?” The boy snapped at Brenna.

“I am sorry, I forgot.” The girl said with regret.

“Here eat this, and hurry.” He said to Kagome, handing her the bread and the bowl. After that he left to do his chores.

“What was that all about? And why do you let a boy talk to you like that?” Kagome said while she eyed the substance that was in the bowl. With a grimace she realized that this might be the only meal she could be allowed to eat in the entire day. With a resigned sigh she began eating.

“What do you mean? He is a man, there for superior, he can talk to any way he deems fit. I am only a woman.”

Kagome almost choked with her food. “What?? And what does that have to do with anything? He’s still a boy and should not talk to you like that, he should have a little bit of respect for his elders. And men aren’t superior.” Kagome was seething by the time she finished talking. ‘What kind of thought is that? I mean “superior??” Christ! Those chauvinist pigs, someone ought to show them how things really are.’

But before Brenna had time to answer Kagome’s heated reply a voice said: “Woman, stop putting ideas in her head. She is right, a woman is inferior to a man.”

“I cannot believe you just said that. That is not true, women are equal to men.”

“I don’t know what they taught you where you come from but here things are different.” Mirkus said walking towards her. “Are you finished?”

Kagome had lost all of her appetite with this new turn of events. “Yes.”

“Good, now follow me. You are to clean the floors of the entrance first.”

“And if I don’t want to?”

“Well then Sim will be punished in your place.”

“What do you mean by that?” Kagome asked, fearing she already knew the answer to her question.

“Well, it’s really easy actually. To ensure your obedience you will not be punished but him instead.” He replied pointing to a boy that was standing behind her. He was little and couldn’t be more than eight years old, with big black eyes that looked at her with sadness and fear. Kagome felt a clutch at her heart.

“Is he Briton?” She asked Mirkus softly.

“Of course, you wouldn’t expect me to whip a Roman child, would you?”

“That is a low move you know. Fine, take me to the place I am to do my chores.”

Mirkus signaled Brenna and the girl gave an understanding nodded.

“Come, I will show you where it is.” Brenna told Kagome.

She followed suit but not after giving Mirkus a glare that said “I’ll get you back”. The man only stared with a small smile, barely visible on his lips. When she was out of hearing range he turned to the boy and spoke.

“That was a very good performance young Sim. I must admit that I almost fell for that sad, sympathetic boy.” Mirkus said as he smiled to the boy.

“Thank you sir. Is there anything else you need for me to do?”

“No, that’s alright, go do your chores, and remember you can have anything you like for dinner as payment.”

“Thank you sir, I’ll be going now.” With that the boy left him alone in the kitchen, though not so alone.

“That was a very low thing to do you know? But of course what could I expect from a Briton?” A woman, no more than twenty-five said as she entered the kitchen through a side door hid to the normal eye. She had brown shiny hair, warm chocolate eyes, and a mouth that had lines saying its owner was used to laughter. She was tall for a woman, with curves, though not as curvy as Kagome, in all the right places. As she talked, she approached the man, waiting for him to reply.

“Why is it that every time I turn around you are there? You wouldn’t be stalking me or something alike, now would you Sanio?”

“You would like that wouldn’t you? Don’t play as if you were a fool, answer me. Why did you do that?”

“Well, I had to ensure her obedience and the General doesn’t want her hurt, so...”

“Oh please, we both know you are a softie, you could never hurt such a beautiful creature, without regretting it at the instant. Better said, is a miracle that slaves behave around here, but then I forget your conning abilities.”

“You hurt me, woman. It is not conning, simply what is best for them. Besides, that coming from a woman of the Gaul.”

“What is that supposed to mean? We Gauls are very proud and honorable people.”

“Well, my past experiences with Gauls allows me to give judgment. You are very sleazy people.”

“You don’t know any Gauls you lying Briton.” The woman replied edging her limit.

“Why no I don’t you are right, but then again, I don’t need to.”

“What are you talking about?” ‘By the gods, what this man speaks is completely senseless. It is far to early in the morning to do this.’ “You know what Mirkus don’t answer. Just send me the breakfast at my rooms.” With that said Sanio turned around and left.

Mirkus was smiling the whole time, enjoying the view of her backside. ovedoved it when he drove the beautiful Sanio crazy; she looked so beautiful with that ire frown on her face. Of course he couldn’t let her know that, she already withheld too much power in the household, and she found that she would take it over completely. For Sanio was a free woman, the general had brought her from Gaul as a slave, when he was not much older than her and himself, and she gained the generals trust quickly, as well as her freedom for good service. Her power at the v was was only compared to his. But then again he had more, for he was a man, and she only a female. Snapping out of his thoughts, he turned to call a servant to take her the breakfast to bed. With that taken care of he left the kitchen to supervise the slaves.

***

It was a little past noon and Kagome had just finished cleaning the entire six marble floors including the villas entrance where she now sat resting. She was tired; she had never worked so hard in her life. The lack of sleep was not helping at all either. ‘This is all his fault, I hope he had as few sleep as I did last night!’ As she rested sitting on her heels, she heard a bark followed then by another. ‘A bark? Is there a dog around here?’
As if conjured by her thoughts, not one but two huge mastines came running towards her, their legs splashing mud and dirt all over the clean floors. Her clean floors. But as the thought appeared in her head it left quickly as the beasts neared her.

“Romulus, Remus!”

‘Of course it had to be him! Who else.’ As she raised her head to look at him he walked past her towards his room, not even glancing at her. He was completely ignoring her. ‘How dare he!? And how dare he let his stupid beasts track dirt all over the clean floors that had cost her such an effort!’ Feeling tears pricking her eyes, she lowered her head, trying to hold them back, she was so frustrated that her hands were fisting turning her kleskles white. She heard him coming and raised her head to glare at him, but again he ignored her as if she was nothing, a simple slave... And not the girl who had tempt him so last night.
When he was out of sight for good, she stood up, a plan forming in her head. ‘Oh I am going to make you wish you never knew me. When I am done with you, we’ll see who is the master and who the slave.’ With that she left to search for Mirkus.

(A/N: Ok I hate to do this... but non of you answer me tim time so I have no other way... Has any of you read a fittlettled in Egypt, where Inuyasha is a temple’s idole, Miroku it’s priest, and Kagome a priestess from another temple( I don’t remember if it was Amon or Isis), and she dances for Inu and he begins lusting for her, and bla bla(It’s not Urd-chan’s “Temple of the dog”). So if any of you heard of it, I would be very much thankful, for any tip, for I been looking for it long time now and I can’t find it. Ok, now you can go on with the chapter, sorry for the interruption.)

***

“Where the hell is that retched man?” She murmured to herself. She was standing at the kitchen’s door looking for the master of slaves.

“Looking for me I see.”

“Eiii! Don’t do that! What is it with you men and creeping up behind women.” She said as her hand rested on her chest.

“Well, if you wouldn’t have been muttering to yourself you would have heard me.” He replied smirking.

“Never mind. You know, what you said last night... About me having the general at the palm of my hand...”

“Yes. What of it?”

“I need your help.”

Mirkus raised an eyebrow. “And why should I help you?”

“Well, you know, you have power here and it wouldn’t be wise for either of us to be enemies. Friendship brings more benefits, don’t you think?”

‘So, she knows she has power. Interesting.’ “Yes you are quite right. But I still I don’t see where you are going with all this.”

“Oh come on, don’t play dumb. You were right, I was a fool last night. Inuyasha showed no interest in me today, he ignored me. I don’t want to clean floors for the rest of my life.”

“Ah, so you yield.”

“Perhaps.”

“What do you mean “perhaps”? Either you yield or you don’t, there is no mid term.”

“Oh, but you are wrong. You might see life with only black and white colors, but there is a whole gamut of grays in life that you don’t see.” She said with a smile on her lips. “You deal with simple, common, plane words. While the word “perhaps” is full of mystery, of different meanings, is tempting, sensual, you can play with it.”

As she talked she sat on the table and said: “Can I eat a piece of bread with honey on top?”

Mirkus nodded, and sat across from her. He watched her as she ate, admiring her delicate way of chewing, the elegant way her hands moved. She really was exquisite and he could understand the reason of Inuyasha’s attraction for her. wou would’ve adorned the table with perfection, behaving like a lady. She had everything a good wife should have, beauty, brains, and humor. At least she would be perfect for the general, if not for some other. Her voice snapped him out of his musings.

“So? Do we have a truce? Will you help me?”

“Perhaps.” He replied, smirking when he saw Kagome raise her eyebrow. “What exactly do you plan on doing if you will not yield?”

“Well let’s just say I am willing to negotiate. You said if I give him what he wanted I could asked for anything I wish for and he would not deny it.”

“Yes, but if you don’t intend to give him so, how will you negotiate.”

“I didn’t say I wouldn’t give it to him, only that I would negotiate it.”

“Well, I don’t know what you are planning in that wicked female head of yours, and I am not sure I want to know. You know, you women are really vindictive creatures.”

“Oh please! We? The weak sex? I could not do it without you, please I need you to become my friend, for your wise advice.” She said flattering him on purpose to get him to agree.

“Well...” Mirkus put his brain to work, knew that the woman in front of him could be very powerful and in a world where power was a very important thing, he wanted this girl on his side. Besides if he didn’t Sanio would take advantage over him with her, he was sure she would already become her confident only for the fact of being a woman. And there is something far worst than one woman with power, and that is... Two women with it. “All right, we will be allies.”

“Great! Now, do you think I could get a bath? I thought that instead of waiting for Inuyasha’s return I should come to his meeting. Taking initiative will make me be a step higher than him. Oh! And I need for Portia and Brenna to make me beautiful again. And from you I need something to wear that the Primus Pilus can’t resist.”

“Well you certainly don’t waste any time do you?” he said sarcastically, while raising a brow.

“We don’t have any time to waste, come on!”

“Fine, fine. Let us go, while you bathe I will have the stole and make up ready waiting for you.”

“I am sure you will. Now, where is Brenna?” With that she went looking for the servant girl to help her with her bath while Mirkus began preparing Portia and searching for a fitting stole.

***

Kagome looked at her mirrored reflection. She looked beautiful and she knew it. After she left Mirkus she had found Brenna doing some kind of a needing, Kagome didn’t know nor care.

“Brenna!”

The girl looked at her with surprised eyes.

“Yes, Lady Kagome?”

“Oh just call me Kagome. I need you to help me with my bath. My back is killing me and I really need to look my best, for the General.”

“Oh? So you are going to surrender to him?”

‘What is it with this people and the surrender thing?’ she fumed. “NO, I am not
“Well, you know how it is... Gossip and all, nothing is really kept a secret here.”

“Never mind. I can’t worry about that now. Will you help me or not?”

“Yes of course. Let’s go, we will try a different aroma for the water if you like.”

“Oh yes, what fragrances do you have?”

“Hum, we have roses, vanilla, violets, and we have a mix of water melon and melon that the general brought from one of his trips.”

“Difficult choice, but I think I’ll go with the vanilla fragrance.”

“That’s nice. He will most certainly like it.” As they were walking Kagome didn’t realized that they had been walking towards the baths. She repeated the same ritual than the day before and all traces of ache at her back were gone after the massage Brenna gave her. Now she waean ean and smelled of enticing vanilla. They walked to the room where Mirkus and Portia were waiting for her.

As she sat on the chair with the towel covering her, Portia drying her hair, Mirkus approached her with a box on his hands. When he opened it Kagome gasped at what was revealed. Jewels of all sizes and colors adorned the black furred interior, you had ornaments for the hair, necklaces, bracelets, charms for the arms, the legs, tiaras, in short words, every woman’s dream.

“Who is it’s owner?” She asked in wonder. But right behind that it was followy a y a tingle of jealousy at the thought of Inuyasha giving those jewels to another woman. ‘Jealous! What? I am not jealous, it’s only that it’s not proper to give gifts to a woman who isn’t the wife.’ She sighed inwardly. ‘God I don’t even buy that. But why does the thought of Inuyasha buying non the less gifting another woman jewels disturbed her so?’ That thought was quickly followed by another far worst. ‘Maybe he is married! Oh My!’

Her face must have betrayed her thoughts because Mirkus asked: “Is there a problem?”
He was confused, one minute she was delighted by the jewels and the next she was frowning like if she had been informed she was about to die on the pike.

“Mirkus, can I ask you something and will you answer it honestly?” She asked him while looking up at him.

Mirkus curious of what was disturbing her so answered: “I’ll try my best.”

“Is the General married?” There was a paused moment when Kagome feared the worst. ‘My God he Tha That two timing basta-’ Her thoughts were interrupted by Mirkus voice.

“No, why do you think that?”

“No? Are you sure? You are not lying to me are you?”

“Yes I am sure, and no I am not lying to you. Why would I?”

“I don’t know, you are a man, you protect each other, it’s like a code you have.”

“A code? Really?” He smiled, he was teasing her, his light violet eyes lit with mischief.

“You don’t have to sound so full of yourself you know, it was just a question, not that I cared or anything.” As soon as the words came out of her mouth she regretted them when she saw his smile grow if possibly wider. ‘Great Kagome, keep burrowing your self, at this rate you will reach China.’ “Never mind that... Are you going to help me or laugh at me all day?”

“Choose one.” He said pointing the jewelry. “And answering your first question they belong to the General.”

“Oh...” She chose a silver filigree to come down her hair. Portia had fiher her hairs the in the same fashion that the night before. She then turned to the different set of stoles that were sat there for her to choose, and picked one of an intense shade of violet. It matched perfectly with silver sparks the filigree threw, and it contrasted with her raven hair wonderfully, making her skin look soft as silk and peached colored. Portia made her make up very light. Only a soft silver-violet shadow, a bit of red gloss on her full lips and a light blush on her cheek bones and she was ready to attack.

Now regarding her self in the mirror, she smiled to her reflection. She was beautiful, and this time he was not going to ignore her, she’d made sure of that. Turning to the three people that were watching her she said: “Brenna, Portia thank you so much.” She then turned to Mirkus. “Now we are ready. Take me to the general.”

“Just a moment.” He said.

“What is it?”

She watched as he walked to a part from the room she didn’t get to see. As he came back he had something in his hands, as he came near Kagome realized it was a silver Celtic necklace with amethyst inlay in it. It was beautiful though the irony of the shape didn’t escape Kagome. It had the shape of a slave necklace.

“I don’t know if I should take this without permission.”

“Oh bug it! If he says something tell him I stole it.” She said as she put the necklace.

“Right then but there is still something we left out.”

“What would that be?”

“Well for one, you don’t have any perfume on you.”

“Oh, but I do. The vanilla fragrance is all I need don’t worry.” She looked at him expectantly and he sighed.

“What now?” he said his tone resigned.

“I need you to get me a horse.”

“I can’t do that. You are still a slave or do you forget?”

“But I need to go to him. I can’t wait for him to come back, it wont work that way.”

“Forget it, you will not ride a horse.”

“Then what? I need something to transport myself in it.”

“Well... I do have a small chariot that I use to make deliveries with.”

“That is fine.”

“All right, let us part. But I warn you he may not like for you, us, to go there...”

“Would you stop worrying? I will take full responsibility if he does take it bad, but I have a hunch he wont.”

“Very well then come on.”

“Wait! One more thing, could you order to the cook to make his favorite meal for tonight.”

“Already ahead of you, I ordered it when you recapitulated.”

“Good. Let’s go then.”

With that they went to the entrance where a stable boy went and brought Mirkus’ chariot. They climbed up and they were on their way.

“I’ve never been in one of these before so I don’t know how to grab very well, so could you please be careful?”

“Don’t worry, I don’t drive like a madman.” He informed her.

“Inuyasha does. He almost ran me over in that damn race.”

“I am surprised that he even stopped the horses for you.”

“I stopped him in the middle of the race what else could he do?” She told him looking at him.

“I don’t know. But you better make your self responsible of what is about to happen.”

Kagome shivered. ‘What if he gets angry? Or humiliates me? All right, Kagome, get a grip, you can’t be so worried about it. Come on, he is just a man, and I am a woman. And I look beautiful what proved to be a powerful weapon, so the cards are on my side of the table.’ With that she straightened up her shoulders and put on her best proud pose. The sun warmed her bare shoulders as the chariot sped off towards the city, down the hill, and to the fortress. As they approached the door a guard saluted them letting them in, only noting her after they were inside. Kagome raised her head to look at the stonewalls that surrounded the fort. She didn’t notice all the soldiers staring at her. Some gaping like fishes out of water, others just too shocked to even react. They followed the chariot with their eyes, and after a minute of silence, all of them began following it, to see its rider’s destination.

Kagome was surprised by the size of the fort. It could comfortably pass for a city with all it’s streets and buildings. Between the intersections of the two principal streets, there were a group of buildings rounding a yard that conformed the general quarter and different offices. Mirkus had to stop to ask where the General was, the guards informed him that the Primus Pilus was at the attached part of the fort, on the outside. After thanking them Mirkus and Kagome settled pace again. Passing through the dinner that was not so big, men stared at them with incredulous eyes, before joining the soldiers that had been following them, soon there was a crowd following the chariot with the mysterious beauty in it. They had seen Mirkus before and almost everybody knew him, but he had never came accompanied by a woman.

At the back part of the fort there was a gate that gave entrance to the attached part of the fortress. When they entered they saw a vast amphitheater that was used for weapon training and parades. Mirkus stopped the chariot when he realized he would interrupt if he moved further, he signaled for Kagome to be quiet. There were at least a thousand soldiers in the field, all of them dressed with their armor with leather straps holding the metal breastplates. The sun shining on their metal breastplates and iron helmets no one noting as they watched the three men and their entrancing battle, taking place on the arena with intensity.

Inuyasha was holding his gladius, a short double-edged sword, showing all men there how to handle it. He wanted for them to learn how to use it with a professional dexterity, before he left from Aquae Sulis. It was a weapon destined to stab more so than cut through, use only for man-to-man combat; it was carried on a thin leather strap or bronze sheath beneath the right hand. On the left sidemen carried a pugio dagger on an iron sheath held by the same belt of the galdius. Physicians were near to assist the wounded of the outcome.
In front of Inuyasha there were two Celtic tribe chiefs, which both their vestment consisted on a short leader loincloth, a battle-axe and a knife.

They both had long black straight hair and their naked legs were tattooed with celtic symbols as that one on Mirkus’ right hand, but more frightening. They both launched towards Inuyasha at the same time, but he was too fast for them, the first that got to him was dispatched with a stab from his gladius on his guts. Inuyasha grabbed the second from the hairs and cut his throat. The soldiers were static. Their general hadn’t even had time to throw his scarlet manta over his shoulder to let the arm that brandished the sword free. A wave of deafening victors were heard, followed by an uncomfortable laughter when the Celts rose to their feet, without a scratch on them. The men had really believed that Inuyasha had killed those men. But what they weren’t aware of was that the Celts had been doing these performances for two years, and they were still too slow or better said not fast enough to even surprised the Roman General. Only once had they grazed him and drew blood; After that incident he could have killed them all while using them to demonstrate the efficient way to use the weapon.

Mirkus realizing the combat was over approached with the chariot. When it was near enough, the soldiers turned their eyes towards the unexpected visitors. A loud murmur began running through the men, that the leaders didn’t manage to hush, for they were also watching the exchange developing in front of their eyes.

The Generals eyes were glued to Mirkus’ chariot that was approaching him, bringing in it his beautiful new slave. When the vehicle stopped, Inuyasha sheathed his gladius and walked towards the nearly arrived. He stared at Kagome perplexed, his eyes burning darkly with fury. Before he managed to yell an order to her she stretched a delicate hand to him.

“Help me down Inuyasha, or your men will think you are very rude.” She said in a soft, intimate voice for him only to hear.

“You will find out how rude I can get to be.” He threatened her, but as her he spoke in a low voice deliberately.

“Smile to me. You will surely want for all your men to think you order me to come here.” She said smiling sweetly to him.

Seeing her smile took his breath away. She had never smiled to him, let alone a sweet smile. He smiled a wolfish smile showing his teeth. He ignored the hand stretched to him and grabbed her by the waist to put her on the floor. Gasps could be heard as the powerful hands rapped around the woman’s slim waist.

She smiled as she noticed the contrast between their complexion, his so dark and hers so white. He was so tall compared to her, his darkness towering over her completely.

“They think I am your new concubine.” She whispered sensually.

The images that her words evoked in his mind were enough to make him hard. His eyes shone triumphantly.

“Is that what you’ve came to tell me?”

“Of course not, you brute.” She answered in a provocative tone.

He was burning, being consumed by the flames of lust. He wanted to push her down right there on the floor and ravish her, ride her, possess her as no man before had ever done, right here before the eyes of his soldiers. He wanted to put his mark on her, to let every single man that might even think of her that this exquisite female was his, only his! Completely entranced he grabbed her by her shoulder with a possessive grip.

“Then, by all the gods, what the fuck are you doing here?” He growled furiously at her.

She rose onto her tiptoes and caressed the scar on his cheek with a loving finger. All the men that were looking held their breath.

“I’ve come so you can ask me to have dinner with you.” She said with a little pout on her lips.

Inuyasha yearned to cover those lips with his. His sex was beating with blood rushing through it chanting the same thing over and over; mine, mine, mine.

“You are my slave. I command you to have dinner with me.”

Kagome shook her head, provocatively. His grip becoming tighter for his need to dominate her.

“If you invite me, it will be a great pleasure for me to accept. When we are done eating, I have a proposition for you.” Kagome murmured.

“A proposition? What proposition, tell me?” He was never a patient man.

“I will unfold it after dinner.”

“Don’t get mistaken, bitch, the only thing unfolding will be you.”

He felt her shiver as a response to his words. He couldn’t take it anymore he had to take her away or he would really take her there, that’s when she spoke.

“Perhaps.” She threw that word full of mystery, promises and excitement as if a battle cry.
Now it was him who was shivering, from head to toes, to the head of his hard rock phallus. His nostrils were dilated with the effort to contain himself. He took a big breath trying to calm down, inhaling at the same time her scent of vanilla and woman, making his head dizzy. This has had to stop before he made a fool of himself in front of his men.

Kagome smiled to her insides. The tables were turned, that morning he had ignored her, and let those beasts of his dirt all over her cleaned floors, just to spite her. But now it was her the one spiting, provoking him; the lady won!

“Go now, before I use my weapon ou hou here in front of all these rude soldiers.” His eyes were shining as he added. “I command you to have dinner with me tonight.”

“You eloquent devil.” She smiled. “How can I resist such a charming invitation?” She asked while rising on her tiptoes again to whisper in his ear. “Seeing you direct and control all those rude, strong men has an aphrodisiac effect on me.” After that she turned around towards the chariot. Inuyasha’s strong hands lifted her by her butticks, putting her next to Mirkus. Approving whistles and yelling could be heard from the men behind them.

“Enough!” came the General’s order, his face as if that of granite. Silence extended all the way through the field.

As they returned to the villa neither of the occupants of the chariot could believe that she had achieved her objective. She had whispered those last words on his ears on purpose; to feed his vanity, to send him over the edge, seduce him. What she hadn’t expected was for her words to be truth, having him close, his hands touching her, were aphrodisiac for her. It gave her a drunk feeling to know that every time she came near Inuyasha he couldn’t restrain himself from touching her, even if it only was a small one. She would prove her theory again tonight; she would approach him to see how long he waited to put a hand on her. She glanced at the silent man beside her from the corner of her eyes.

“He didn’t say anything to you.”

“Lady Kagome, he didn’t even see me.”

Kagome was pleased with Mirkus, now he was really starting to trust her and becoming her friend. It was the first time he called her by her name, and added with a lady in front, what else could a girl ask for?

***

‘By Jupiter’s balls!’ Kogus thought as he watched the exchange between his brother and the gorgeous creature in front of him. ‘No wonder my brother likes to stay in Aquae Sulis so much. With a villa full of slaves like that female of raven hair, obeying his every will and orders, to satisfy all of his yearnings, what man would not be happy?’ His brother had hidden his slaves very well from him the other night when he came over for diner. He certainly needn’t any prostitutes, a slave lit a man’s desire so much more than a common whore could ever do, and particularly that raven-haired girl, possessed an exceptional beauty. ‘Whether he knows it or not Inuyasha will invite me for dinner again tonight.
