Chapter 13 – The Death
He could
feel his body heat up as the pure delight from strangling the girl pulsed thru
his body. He had expected the flames to
rise. The excitement he got from the torture
of females resulted in a climax that set his body on fire. It was the same every time. He would lure the unsuspecting girls with his
good looks and charm and then he would kill them. He was created for this very purpose. He could hear Inu Yasha behind him, but Yojin didn’t care.
She was almost dead and soon there would be nothing the annoying hanyou
could do. Once Yojin
had come to full climax, there was only one thing, besides the passing of a few
days, that could douse the flames. Besides, Naraku was about to attack the
group. It had been planned out so
well. He hadn’t counted on Kagome being
so strong willed, though. It was as if
she was refusing to die.
Kagome
had opened her eyes as soon as she had realized what was happening to her and
had instinctively started fighting for her life. She had cooled down her body and was going
into what nature would call hibernation.
She wasn’t even aware that she was doing this. It was primal, and it had to be. Yojin had cut off
most of her air supply, making it hard for her to think. If he kept his grip on her throat she would
surely have some level of brain damage.
Inu
Yasha unsheathed Tetsusaiga and ran towards the flaming body of Yojin. Just as he
was about to slash the man in half, Yojin dropped
Kagome, thinking her dead and flamed up.
The sword found its mark, but it did no good. Yojin was nothing
but fire now, and the swing had gone right thru him, just as if Inu Yasha had
only been slicing thru the air. Before
he could even realize what happened, Naraku was in front of him. Miroku couldn’t use his Air Void because of
the poisonous hell wasps. Sango had seen
that the Inu Yasha’s attack did no good, so she ran to her friend. Shippo was so frightened that he hid in the
bushes. It seemed as if nothing could be
done.
“Kukuku, you thought you could fight fire with a mere
sword”, Naraku smirked. “Yojin is one of my most deadly children. His techniques are flawless, and his appetite
for women is insatiable. I’m sure that
Sango made a lovely sacrifice for the flames.”
“I’m
sure she would have if it had been Sango”, sneered Inu
Yasha. “Look again, Naraku, Yojin has killed my love and for that, you both will pay.”
Naraku
looked at the girl lying on the ground.
He had been so sure that it had not been Kagome. But as he watched, Sango ran to the girl,
frantically calling out her name. If
Naraku hadn’t been wearing the baboon pelt, he surely would have turned just as
white. He could sense Inu Yasha making a
run for him, Tetsusaiga above his head.
Naraku couldn’t take his eyes away from the scene of the older girl
morning her friend. Rage shot thru his
entire body as he realized that the one treasure he wanted more than anything
had been killed by the lustful intentions of one of his creations. He released miasma and disappeared in a
whirlwind right before Inu Yasha could strike.
Everyone
covered their faces, trying not to inhale the poison. Everything had gone black again and for
awhile Inu Yasha couldn’t see anything.
Slowly his eyes adjusted to the light as the dark, poisonous cloud
dissipated. All he could see at first
was the flames that were Yojin. wly, wly, the stars came back into view, along
with his friends. He coughed and looked
around, trying to assess the situation. Miroku was kneeling down. His head tilted back
in the hopes of getting clear air again.
Shippo was still in the bushes and Inu Yasha couldn’t see him, but could
sense the kitsune. Inu Yasha looked
around for Sango and Kagome. He started
to panic as he realized that he didn’t see them anywhere.
“Sango! Sango, where are you? Where’s Kagome?”
He saw
some movement out of the corner of his eye.
He turned in that direction and waited, trying hard to peer into the
darkness. Sango lifted up her head, and began
coughing violently. She had
unconsciously covered her friends face when Naraku had made his feeble
attack. She did this out of sheer
instinct, not thinking about it being a pointless act since Kagome was lying
there motionless. She slowly lifted herself
off the girl and looked down at her peaceful looking face. She had lost one of her friends, her best
friend. The one person
in the entire world that she had made a true connection with, and she was gone. Inu Yasha ran over to where they were. She heard his deep throated growl as he
looked down on them both. She felt his
frustration. No one knew how to defeat Yojin.
Miroku
now took of the rosary that bound the hole in his hand. With Naraku gone, he thought to easily suck
up the fire and end the threat. But as
he opened his palm to expose the void, he felt a searing pain going up his
arm. He looked at his hand, which was
now on fire, and he screamed in terror.
Instead of sucking in the fire, the fire was sucking him in. He knew that his whole body would soon be
consumed by the flames if he didn’t close his hand. As he rewrapped his hand, he fell to his
knees once more, pained and exhausted.
Yojin
had been standing near the body of Kagome, an evil smile playing across his
face. He enjoyed the pleasure he had
received by her death, and had found her friends’ attempts to kill him quite
entertaining. And now he was going to
have even more fun. He reached down and grabbed
at Sango, attempting to engulf her in his flames. If he killed her now, in the state he was
already in, he was sure that his fire would never die down. But the demon huntress didn’t even have time
to see his attack, as Inu Yasha pulled her and Kagome out of harms way. When Sango realized what had almost happened,
she began to weep. She cried for
Kagome’s death, Inu Yasha’s heart, and Miroku’s body. She hadn’t cried since her brother and father
had died at Naraku’s hands, but now she had lost someone that was like a sister
to her. She cried and it felt like she was never going to cease. Yojin took that
opportunity to try to reach the girl once more, but this time she saw him
coming and rose up in anger. Lashing at
her face, she whipped the tears away. manor.
“You
have killed the purest thing on Earth! Isn’t
that enough”, she asked the flames as she swung her arms up, pointing at
him. The tears that were still dripping
from her fingers flew thru the air towards Yojin.
The man
that had been Naraku’s greatest creation watched in dread as he saw the tears
coming towards him as if slow motion. He
tried to dart away from the droplets but found he was pinned to the
ground. He looked down and saw the
Kagome’s hand wrapped around his ankle, her grip so tight that not only could
he not budge, but he realized the coldness of her hand had made his flames less
intense. He looked back up just in time
to see the tears touch the flames where his heart would have been and he opened
his mouth to scream, but nothing came out.
He never imagined that the girl would have friends who cared enough
about her to cry over her passing. ‘No one
will ever cry over me’, he thought as
his body turned into human flesh once more.
His true opponent was the tears. The one thing that could put out the flames and once again make him
vulnerable.
As soon
as Inu Yasha saw that Yojin was back in the flesh, he
ran at the man and slashed him across throatroat with his claws. Inu Yasha had decided that he was not worthy
enough to be killed with the Tetsusaiga.
Yojin had received a blow almost mighty enough
to take his head clear off. His body
made a large indention in the ground as he fell dead. Sango and Inu Yasha both collapsed for a
moment, trying to collect their thoughts and breathe. Shippo came out of his hiding place and ran
over to Kagome.
Inu
Yasha slowly got up and went to his love.
He knelt down beside her and bowed his head briefly, then gently
gathered her in his arms and turned to carry her from the now bloody scene. He would carry her body back to Kaede,
knowing the woman would help them give Kagome a proper burial. Miroku pushed himself up with one knee and
came over to help Sango up. They both
knew to stay silent as they followed after the hanyou. They simply walked, arm in arm, and took
comfort in the fact that they had survived, all the while cursing that same
fact.
No one
had noticed that Kagome had moved her hand away from Yojin’s
foot. No one but Shippo, and once again
they had left him behind and confused.

“She has
gone thru so much and now it ends this way”, sighed
Kaede as she ushered the group into her hut.
She was about to pull the door covering back when Shippo ran past
her. He was too out of breath to speak
at first.
“Sh-she’s not dead”, he sputtered. He looked around frantically at
everyone. They all looked at him as if
he was delusional.
“Shippo,
we all saw what happened. There was no
way she could have survived”, said Miroku.
“But she
is alive, I saw her grab Yojin’s leg to hold him in
place so Sango’s tears could hit him, and then I saw her move her hand away
from him again after Inu Yasha attacked him!”
“There
is a chance that she was able to manipulate her body into slowing down. There are animals that can do that, mainly in
the winter time”, replied Kaede. “If that is what happened, than she might have appeared dead to all
those that were present.” The old
woman went over to where Inu Yasha had placed her. She had to get Miroku to forcibly move Inu
Yasha so that she could examine the girl.
His possessiveness had gotten worse, it seemed.
After a
few minutes of gazing at the girl and opening her eyes and mouth to examine
them, she called the hanyou over to her.
Gravely smiling up at him she asked, “Does she smell of death to you?”
Inu
Yasha bent down and put his nose up against her cheek and sniffed once,
expecting to have a nasty odor invade his senses. Instead, he smelled jasmine. He inhaled deeply this time and his mind was
flooded with thoughts of the two of them in a field of flowers. He kly kly looked up at the group of mourners
behind him.
