Nearly simultaneously two thoughts crossed Jakotsu's mind. The first was simply to realize the fact that the cattle were stampeding. The second was the direction in which they were traveling; right toward where the girls where washing clothes. Whistling as loud as he could even as he started running for his horse, Jakotsu prayed that Renkotsu was still close enough that he could hear him and come to his aid.
Jumping on his horse, Jakotsu began rushing toward them as fast as he could; barely noticing when Renkotsu began galloping along side him. "I've got right," Jakotsu called out, not wanting to take the chance of calling out Kagome's name only to realize too late that Renkotsu hadn't learned who was who. A quick nod later and both of them were increasing their speed once more as they weaved in between the stampeding animals trying to make their way to the women as quickly as they could.
Unable to do anything else as all paths were blocked, the girls could only stand a few yards apart, where they were separated by the cattle; silently praying that every single one of them went around them instead of trying to go through. "Got'cha," Jakotsu assured Kagome as he wrapped his arm around her waist and lifted her up so she was laying sideways across his horse; catching Renkotsu the exact same thing out of the corner of his eye.
Not allowing himself even a moment to celebrate his accomplishment as he knew the hard part wasn't over yet, Jakotsu pulled hard on the reigns as he turned his horse back toward camp and began weaving his way through once more; knowing it would be a shorter distance now that most of the cattle had already passed them. Hearing Renkotsu call out to his horse over the thundering hooves, Jakotsu glanced over his shoulder to make sure he was okay before turning his full attention back to the task at hand.
