Seeing him stumble around as he clenched his side, his assailant about to lunge forward to attack him once more, Jakotsu reached down for his gun and pulled it out just in time to hear another shot go off. Spinning around in surprise, he found Renkotsu standing there with his gun drawn; a wisp of smoke rising from it. Turning back around, silently praying that the pyromaniac was a good shot and swearing he be damned if he wasn't in the same thought, Jakotsu watched in relief as the rider, whose name he had yet to learn, fell back into the water.
His relief was short lived as an instant later, he was joined by another. “Bankotsu!” he screamed in panic as he rushed toward him; practically jumping as he waded through the nearly waist deep water to get to him. Just as he was reaching down to lift the heavier man into his arms, he found himself once again being overtook by Renkotsu. Surprised for the second time in as many minutes by the stranger, he could only stand there in shock for a moment as the others came running from the camp; no doubt drawn over by the gunshot.
“Are you coming or not?” Renkotsu threw over his shoulder without even bothering to look at him as he carried Bankotsu in his arms, as though he weighed nothing, and made his way back to camp. Deciding to let the others deal with the dead man, Jakotsu was rushing after him without even bothering to explain what happened when Inuyasha shot him a questioning look. Back at the camp, Renkotsu headed straight for the wagon without bothering to ask permission to use it, even though both of the girls had remained in camp.
After laying him down in the back of the wagon, Renkotsu began removing his shirt while Jakotsu grabbed some water and the rest of Bankotsu's last shirt. Climbing in beside him, he completely forgot about the three man in the wagon as he turned his complete attention to the man laying unconscious. “I just finished patching you up, you know,” Jakotsu reminded him, undaunted by the fact he couldn't currently hear him. Dipping a corner of shirt into the water, he carefully started to wipe away the blood.
“Looks like you got lucky again, Bankotsu. The wound isn't very deep,” he assured him before gently touching the skin beside the knife wound. Any deeper than it was and it could have seriously caused some damage. Shaking his head at the thought of how close he had come to losing him, Jakotsu began wrapping the bandages around his waist; finally remembering Renkotsu was there when he started to speak.
“You're not just his friend.” It wasn't really a question, though it wasn't actually an accusation either.
“I am for now,” Jakotsu replied without looking up from what he was doing. He was content to going back to ignoring him, giving his full attention to Bankotsu, when he distracted him once more by asking if he knew him from somewhere. Finally taking his eyes off of the man he was tending, Jakotsu looked Renkotsu in the eyes while replying, “Yes. I am one of the people you tried to burn alive.”
