Night Terrors

The night was fairly uneventful, the creatures avoided the light and only occasionaly did they try to snag Kagome or Shiori when they strayed to close to the shadows. Shiori seemed to take pleasure in accidently going to close to the shadows, and they all enjoyed watching the creatures flesh burn when they attempted to grab her. Kagome however was not so brave, she did not wish to tempt fate more than she had to, other than that she remained in Inu yasha's arms. Inu yasha thought Shiori foolish for teasing them, but even he had to smile when they let out screams of pain.
They all knew that sleep was a luxury now, so while Inu yasha held Kagome in his arms she slept lightly. Shiori was a true insomniac through and through, Inu yasha guessed it came along with the life she had led. He found it slightly difficult to stay awake, but he managed to do so at least until Kagome awoke any way. Every now and then Shiori would begin to laugh uncontrolably. Inu yasha found her laughter in they're current position very disturbing indeed. After her third out burst, Inu yasha spoke up.
" And exactly what the hell is so funny?!" He groweld. She continued to laugh until she could no longer sit up. She roled on the ground laughing hystericly.
" Its just that" she began, and interubted herself with another giggle.
" Its just that I just realized somthing" she said then continued to laugh uncontrolably. Inu yasha roled his eyes at the childish behavior of the cat demon.
" Well are you just going to just sit there laughing your ass off or are you going to share?" He said sarcasticly. She stopped and sat up.
" Its just that, after we die, the world will go on. No one will ever know what we know. Children will continue to have night mares, and parents will continue to tell them that it is just their imagenation. And the cycle will continue, forever and ever." She finished then continued her laughter.Inu yasha was growing furious.
" AND WHATS SO GOD DAMN FUNNY ABOUT THAT?!" He yelled startling Kagome so bad she jumped in his arms. He quickly wrapped his arms around her to keep her from going to far.
" Well you see.........once I die she will be the only one who with the knowledge I have gained over my lifetime, and when she goes that will leave you, who will undoubtedly die soon after. Dont you see? There is no end, they have been killing people and demons alike this way for thousands of years, and when we die they will continue to do so. So think of it this way, they are thnternters and we are the prey. They just happen to be picky. And the only ones who know about them will die before they have a chance to tell anyone, or anyone who will believe them anyway. Now do you see the irony in it all? The only ones who know the truth are doomed to be thought insane." She finished and began to laugh again. Inu yasha shook his head in disgustioriiori was lossing it. He couldnt really blame her. After all she had been through alot, more than even he.
Kagome how ever was not so gracius. As her temper flared she highly doubted that even the strongest of demons would have been able to keep her from saying what she was about to say. Not Naraku, not Sesshomaru, not even Inu yasha could stop those words from escaping her lips as visions of her childhood filled her head. Inu yasha released his grip on Kagome as her aura darkend with pure rage. He looked on in silence as she held her hand back and with a echoeing slap, brought in down against Shioris face. The cat demon seemed more shocked than angry, in fact she didnt look angry at all.
" YOU THINK THAST FUNNY?! THAT THERE ARE SMALL CHILDREN AFRAID OF THEIR OWN SHADOWS, THAT TELL THEMSELVES ITS JUST THEIR IMAGENATION, BECAUSE THATS WHAT THEIR PARENTS TELL THEM?! HOW MANY CHILDREN CRY THEMSELVES TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT FEARING WHAT LAYS IN THE DARKNESS, HOW MANY CHILDREN SIT UP IN THEIR BEDS PRAYING FOR THE SUN TO RISE?! I HAVE BEEN THOSE CHILDREN, I KNOW WHAT IT IS TO FEAR THE SUNSET, AND PRAY FOR THE SUNRISE, AND IT AINT GOD DAMN FUNNY!!!" she fumed as she clenched her fists so tightly, she was sure she could feel to trickle of blood down her wrists as her fingernails dug into her palms.
Shiori sat there in awe, as she brought her hand to her cheek as though she was just now regesturing that she had been slapped. Kagome gasped for air as her body shook with anger. Shiori bowed her head and began to cry.
"I-Im s-so s-sorry, Kagome please forgive me, I dont know what came over me, your right its a horrible thing to laugh about, you must think Im simply horrid for laughing about that" Shiori cried. Kagomes face softend as she kneelt down to the cat demon. Her fists released as she looked at the cat demon. Inu yasha walked over to them and slowly wrapped his arms around Kagome.
" Im so sorry Shiori, I lost my temper, and I dont think your horrid, I just know youve been through alot and I should be more understanding" she said as she felt Inu yasha nuzzle against her neck. She found it odd that he would do so, it seemed more than friendly but she wasnt about to ask questions, it felt so right to be there in his warm protecting arms, those arms thet had killed so many, were now holding her as if she were a great treasure, and here in his arms she felt like a treasure. She closed her eyed sid sighed, if it were true that she had only 6 days to live, she couldnt think of a better way to spend them. He was so warm, his breath tickled her skin as he exhaled. She blocked out the rest of the world, and wished she could sit there on the cold foiledge covered ground, in his warm comforting arms forever, frozen in time as if there was no tommorow and no yesturday, just now, here, with him, with Inu yasha.
But then his arms left, she felt so alone, even though he was near, it felt as though he was leaving and never coming back. She longed for him to reach out for her and hold her again, for him to tell her that everything will be fine. And in those arms, she would believe him and everything would be alright, it would be just fine.
" You both should get some sleep, were going back to the village tommorow and I dont want to end up carrying both of you" he said as hesat next to fire with a blank expression on his face. Shiori however stopped crying and went pale as a ghost.
" A-A village?! Like with people?! " she gasped as Inu yasha looked at her as though she was insane.
" What other kind is there?" he asked sarcasticly as he looked into the bright red flames that seemed to dance as the wind blew away the glowing ashes, and the logs crackeld and poped.
" YOU CANT DO THAT!" Shiori screamed.
" Why not, we have friends there, friends that could help" he said as a scowl came across his face. Shioris eyes grew larger as her mouth hung open.
" IF YOU LEAD THEM TO PEOPLE, THEY WILL FEED!" she screamed. Now it was Inu yasha who looked as though he had been slapped in the face. Kagome took in a sharp intake of breath and covered her mouth with her hand as she shook her head in disbelief.
" What do you mean they feed? I thought you said they only kill those who have seend the eyes in there dreams?" Inu yasha said slowly as though afraid his voice would break.
" They do, and anyone the ones who see the eyes come into contact with during the 7 days" she replied as she looked directly into his eyes. He could tell she wasnt lieing but there was somthing inside of him that didnt want to believe her. If this were true than there was no way they could ask there friends for help, nor see them, ever again.
