A day in the Gardens

thehotty: YAY!! I've updated for my faithful fans... namely two of them... Anyway, here it is!

Kagome: Enjoy it while you can. She's moving again next week.

Sesshoumaru: Into her new apartment with her boyfriend.

Inu Yasha: But she'll keep working on the stories, even if she doesn't update fore a little while.

Miroku: Indeed. She also has a job interview coming up.

thehotty: It doesn't help that I'm already working day-to-day temp work.

Sango: No kidding. You won't have Internet for a while either, right?

thehotty: No, but I'll be able to come to my boyfriend's Sister's house or the libary and use the Internet there.

Inu Yasha: So, there you are and here's your new chapter people!

Weeks flew by, seeing off the family, settling friends and the children into the castle, and laughing at Jaken’s expense.

Kagome pondered on hers and Sesshoumaru’s relationship (as weird as it was) and how it seemed to progress.

Before Inu-no left, he commented to Kagome that Sesshoumaru seemed friendlier while she was around and more closed off when she disappeared from his sight. Kibito seemed to like advice on babies was in due order, even though she wasn’t expecting.

Then there was the teasing from Kikyou and Izayoi had done at her expense. She didn’t like that.

Inu Yasha was the worst of them all. He’d glare at Sesshoumaru while telling Kagome about horrible things the demon had done. She shrugged it off as fairytales and continued to do what she was doing. But in reality, she listened to every word and learned what her husband was capable of.

She pushed those thoughts aside and out of her head and thought about the man himself. How he was around her, and how she felt about him.

She had already concluded that he would make an excellent husband (not if she had any choice on the matter though, was there?) and a decent father. She still wished he would spend a little more time with the kids, but he was Lord and had tons of papers to go over. But as a mate?

She let herself slip into the warm mineral waters of the hot springs and stared at the exotic plants and flowers around her.

“Isn’t this beautiful?” She asked Sango.

“Uhm-hmm,” she mumbled. “This is the life.”

“So, what’s going on between you and Miroku? Yura’s been so frustrated because of you two, she’s about to murder him.”

Sango laughed. “She must despise men after everything, huh?”

“Kind of. She has that thing for Iwala. But I don’t blame her if she does. I’m not too fond of them myself, even if I’m married to another. Now, what’s going on between you two?” Kagome asked, sinking lower.

“He’s back to his old ways, and they almost seem worse for some reason. Maybe it was I was gone for so long and wasn’t able to keep him in place, or he’s just a stubborn ass?”

“I like that one. It seems more likely,” she smiled softly. “He’s always been a lecher though, no matter what anyone does. I think the only thing that will stop it, if even, would be commitment. But are either of you ready for that?”

“I’m ready. I’ve finished my final test, and if I don’t settle down and have children soon, who’ll be able to say by the time someone is ready to settle down wit me, I’m not going to able to have their children. Most of the women have children while they are still young.”

“Well, at least you know what you want. You should talk to Miroku about this all.”

“I’ve tried. He just tells me not to worry about it and changes the subject right to away. He won’t listen!”

“I can talk to him if you want me too. I bet he’d be more than willing to see your side afterwards,” Kagome offered.

“If I wanted him dead, I would handle it. I don’t know what to do, but I have to meet up with Yura soon to practice. I’ll see you later!”

Sango got out of the spring through on a bath yakama and ran out of the room. Kagome sighed and decided getting out and finding a perverted monk was in order.

She found him ‘meditating’ under a sakara tree. A small group of servant maids were bent over the garden weeding not to far away.

“I’m surprised you’re not over there yet,” she giggled while sitting next to him.

“Sometimes it is better to watch as one works then to charge head on,” his wise but fake innocent voice wafted out.

“So, they already kicked your ass once?” she laughed.

“My Lady!” His hand flew over his heart, an innocent mask in place. “I am a man of Buddha. And you are a Lady. Such language is unbecoming.”

“Oh shut it. With how long we’ve been around Inu Yasha, we’re bound to pick up a few words.” Her face grew serious, which he quickly picked up on.

“I assume you didn’t come here to just have idol banter?” he asked.

“Iie. For advice for a friend of mine. I’m serious too!” she added at his ‘I’m-sure-it’s-a-friend-and-not-you’ look. “My friend has this guy she likes, but he’s not so faithful. It’s never bothered her before, but now she’s thinking about having children before her body decides to stop working right. She’s tried to talk to him, but he keeps changing the subject or telling her not to worry about it. She’s afraid that he’s found someone else. She had been away to visit family for a while, which have him plenty of time to find someone else, you know.

“What do you think my strong, demon hunter friend should do about her ‘cursed’-handed monk admirer?” she finished, sending a deadly glare at him.

Miroku sighed and his shoulders sagged a little. “I can’t get a hold of her father. I’ve sent him letter after letter, but haven’t received any reply. I cannot do anything without his approval.”

Miroku’s head snapped forward when Kagome hit him.

“You baka! You live at the Lords’ castle! You are personal friends with the Lady! You can get our permission to marry her. You’ve got mind. Let’s go as Sesshoumaru.”

She dragged him to his feet and behind her all the way to the study door, where Sesshoumaru locked himself in all day long and knocked.

“Enter,” was heard as she threw the door open and pushed the monk into the room, closing the door after them.

“Ask him. I bet he’ll tell you he doesn’t care,” Kagome teased.

“Ask me what, monk?” Sesshoumaru glared at the two for disturbing his well earned peace.

“I really think I should leave it up to him, Kagome,” Miroku tried to leave but was stopped by a glaring Kagome.

“Iie! You haven’t gotten a reply yet, and I don’t think you ever will. Now ask Sesshoumaru, or I’ll ask for you,” she threatened. “Don’t make me have to order you.”

Miroku turned around to face the not to happy demon and bowed. “Please excuse me for interrupting you, my Lord. I was having a discussion with my Lady about future affairs, and it seems she’s forcing myself to come to you for your blessings.”

“What affairs are these?” he asked, his cold voice getting colder.

Couldn’t anyone just come out with what they wanted? Why did they have to drag it out?

“I would like to take Lady Sango’s hand in marriage. Please, my Lord, will you bless the union? My Lady has already granted it.” He bowed lower, if at all possible.

“Do as you will. Ningen marriages do not concern me.”

With that, he gave a flick of his wrist, dismissing the two of them.

“HAH! Told you he wouldn’t care,” Kagome cried out. “She’s in the Dojo with Yura if you want to find her,” she offered to him.

Miroku smiled and took off out of the study. Kagome bowed to Sesshoumaru and began to walk after Miroku.

“Sit.” His cold voice stopped Kagome from following after her friend and spying on him as he talked to Sango.

She listened to his command and sat on the fluffiest pillow she could find.

“Is there something I can do for you?” she asked him.

“How did you meet the kit?”

“Shippo?” she asked, not really understanding what he had meant by the question.

“Indeed.”

“Uhm,” she threw him a questioning look before beginning. “Back when I was younger, and my father didn’t expect for me to marry for a few more years, I traveled Japan, fighting demons and helping anyone who needed it. I heard of some thunder demons terrorizing an area around a small village, so I decided to check it out with Inu Yasha. He’d meet up with me whenever your father wasn’t training him or cooping him up in the house. We found Shippo when we headed off from the village. He was trying to scare us off in hopes of saving us. We killed the thunder demons, who happened to be brothers, after a kidnapping and life threats.

“We found out that they had killed his family. I couldn’t just leave him out there by himself. He had even told me that he hadn’t eaten in two weeks before he had meet up with us and his father hadn’t gotten around to teaching him how to hunt yet. I figured the right thing to do was take him in as my own and take care of him. He’s happy now, and that’s all that matters to him.” She smiled weakly and glanced at him.

“Why’d you want to know?” she asked.

“I was wondering why he was so loyal to you and looked up to you as a mother. That is all,” he answered.

“And why were you wondering that? Because I’m a Miko and he’s demon? If that’s the case, then why is Rin with you? If I remember correctly, you believe humans are filthy creatures,” she shot back.

“I was compelled to save her life,” he simply answered.

“Elaborate, please. Why were you compelled to save her? How did you save her? How did it go after you saved her? I want to hear the story.”

Sesshoumaru’s glare hardened. “Indeed, you would want to know. So I will tell you.

“Two years ago I had gotten into a fight in which I was gravely injured. I laid under a tree near a village to recover and she stumbled upon me. She tried to feed me food, but I told her I would not accept it. She had been beaten because she was stealing food to bring to me.

“A pack of wolves attacked the village and she escaped. She was trying to make it to me, in hopes of safety. They got her on the way and killed her. I instantly killed the wolves and revived her Tensigia.

“Afterwards, she followed me around. She began to talk and show interest in flowers. No matter how I tried to leave her in villages, she wouldn’t leave me, so I allowed it. She is happy to finally have a family again.”

Kagome smiled brightly at him. “That’s a really sweet story. If I was given the same option, I know I would have done the same thing for her.”

“Indeed. You are to kind hearted to leave her like she was. You probably wouldn’t have let her go back to the village after seeing the bruises either, would you?”

“Most likely. It is getting late though, even for me. I think I will retire. Are you going to join me?” she stood up to leave the room.

“I will be in later. I have more scrolls to go over.”

She nodded in understanding and quickly left the study. “Good night Sesshoumaru. Don’t be up to late,” she called back before disappearing from his senses.

“Good night, darling,” he whispered before bending back over his desk.

Kagome laid on her side watching Sesshoumaru sleep. He had came to bed extremely late in the night and hadn’t been as quiet as he normally was which in turn, woke her up. She had helped him undress and covered him with the blanket after he flopped into the bed, and passed out.

‘The kids should be in soon,’ she thought. ‘I will let them wake him up. Plus, I like it when he’s sleeps.’ She quickly stood to dress. “He doesn’t glare when he’s sleeping,” she mumbled to herself.

“Who does not glare?”

The teasing cold voice startled her and she quickly turned around. She took notice of the amusement in his eyes before they iced over into their traditional cold glare. She shivered involuntarily at the glare.

“Excuse me?” she asked, not quite sure she had heard him right.

“You said somebody does not glare in their sleep. Who does not glare?” he asked again.

“Oh my! I didn’t realize I said that out loud. It probably woke you up, didn’t it?”

“I’ve been awake for a while. Who were you speaking of, woman?” he asked again.

A slight blush covered her face. “You,” she whispered before walking to the wardrobe. She pulled out an army green kimono with light grey petals gathered at the bottom. The oobi was a rich black.

“Hn,” he responded, catching a whiff of Rin and Shippo heading toward their room.

They rushed through the door and right toward the bed.

“Mamma! Are we going out to play in the garden today?” Shippo asked, not noticing that he was standing on Sesshoumaru’s chest.

Rin giggled and Shippo glanced at her weirdly. “Good morning daddy!” She crawled over to him and gave him a hug.

Shippo, finally realizing what made Rin giggle, scooted off and mumbled an apology.

“Good morning Rin, Shippo.” He sat up and gathered his clothing together.

“Good morning Sesshoumaru-sama,” Shippo replied.

“You are going to be working again, daddy?” Rin asked.

“Indeed.”

“You know, you should really take a day off. You hardly spend time with the kids as it is and you’ve been working longer then normal. It could do you some good. Plus, I can help you tomorrow to catch up on the work you would miss today,” she offered to tempt him into agreeing.

“Please daddy? Rin would like that very much. Shippo would too, right Shippo?” she clasped her hands together and her eyes became wide and watery, her bottom lip pouted slightly.

‘The perfect puppy dog eye,’ Kagome thought randomly while Shippo nodded his head attently, apparently liking the idea.

“So be it. I will join you for today.”

The three of them cheered while the children wrapped around his legs.

“Let’s go get breakfast. Then we’ll go outside, ok?” Kagome called out.

“Alright!” was their answer as they ran out of the room to see who could get to the dinning hall first.

Kagome smiled and followed at a slower pace with Sesshoumaru.

Kagome braided another stem into the long row. Rin wanted to make a blanket of flowers and had enlisted Kagome to help her.

Sesshoumaru had found himself giving fighting lessons to Shippo. Shippo had already shown the older demon all his tricks and was working hard to listen to all of Sesshoumaru’s tips.

Rin let out a loud ‘yay,’ startling Kagome, who had been watching the two practice fighting with a small smile on her face.

“Huh?” was the only response she could think of as she blinked rapidly and turned to face the young girl.

“All done. Mamma and Rin mad a pretty blanket with flowers!”

Kagome looked down only to notice that Rin was right. She smiled and laid it on to of Rin.

“Now you can take a nap covered in flowers, just like the little hime you are,” she commented, throwing Rin into a fit of giggles.

“Daddy! Daddy! Look at what mamma and Rin did!”

Shippo jumped onto Sesshoumaru’s shoulder and they headed over to the two.

“Look daddy. Mamma and Rin made a blanket of flowers!” she called out holding up a corner of it. “Come is under it with Rin.”

Shippo jumped off Sesshoumaru’s shoulder and into Kagome’s arms. Sesshoumaru sat in between Rin and Kagome and pulled the flower blanket over the whole group.

Rin laid her head in his lap while Kagome leaned on his side, pulling Shippo tighter into her hold. He wrapped an arm around both of them and leaned against the tree behind him, a slight smirk appearing on his face.

‘We could pass as a perfect happy family,’ passed through his mind. His eyes traveled down to the Miko leaning against his shoulder.

She was beautiful, smart, witty, funny, and great with children, smelled nice and she caught his eye more then once. Every thing he was looking for in a mate. There were a few bonuses as well. She was good in bed, she knew how to make his blood boil, and would make a wonderful mother to his child. Making her his mate was looking more and more real with each passing day.

He had long ago stopped trying to deny his feelings for the little thing. He didn’t like to lie to himself. That and she seemed to wiggle her way into anyone’s heart.

That was probably why everyone was so loyal to her. She demanded respect without trying to.

She made a wonderful Lady and held more power then any human he’d ever met. Both spiritually and socially. Nobody could deny that. And it attracting to him.

He wondered if she had sorted out her thoughts briefly before he realized that he had already made up his mind. He wanted her as a mate.

He looked back down at Kagome, who cuddled closer to him. He rested his chin on her head, causing her to glance up at him. Without thinking about it, he swept in and captured her lips and a chaste kiss before pulling back.

She blushed furiously and looked back down at Shippo.

A smile spread on his lips as he tightened his grip on her
