Chapter 11

DISCLAIMER: I don’t own Inuyasha or any of the characters within the series. They all belong to Rumiko Takahashi.

AN: Warning fluffy chapter filled with bitter sweetness. Also some limey emotions (still within PG-13 level though just some mention of body parts) but I will put a warning before it so those who don’t like to read that sort of touchy feely stuff. If you want X-rated this isn’t it. I never intended this to be too sexual. I hope you enjoy it though.
Oh and by the way LAST CHAPTER! FINALLY! And all that garbage Ummm...don’t hate k? ( M

Chapter 11

Thank God It’s Friday

Kagome sat down on the fluffy couch nursing a hot rum toddy and stared into the flames of the fire place. She felt more alone then she ever did in her whole life. Sango wouldn’t have been able to come with her because her father insisted she spend the holidays with the family. Bank and his brothers were all too busy taking care of the clubs she and her brother inherited to take the time off. Her mother and brother couldn’t make it either due to her mother’s work. To top it off, it was another year where she didn’t have a boyfriend. Perhaps this is the way God intended for her life to be. She often contemplated going back to the shrine and becoming a priestess like her grandfather always wanted her to, but she put it off feeling it wasn’t what she was meant to do. Now she was beginning to think she was never supposed to be happy and have a family of her own. A tear slid down her face as she sipped her hot drink. It flowed over her taste buds and warmed her internally but it still didn’t reach her heart.

The one thing she wanted she couldn’t have and she was the only one to blame. In her mind she could see that cocky smile and his arrogant attitude that she was so fond of. He really was such a nice guy and of course, like always, his heart belong to someone else. That’s the way it always is. The really good ones belong to someone who will never appreciate what they have. She should have said something before leaving. Then at least it would have been clear not only to him but to her as well. She might have peace of mind now. Unfortunately her sense of self preservation had caused her to shut out others for so long that she didn’t realize she was in love with him until it was too late. They had only known each other for a week but it seemed so much longer. By the time she figured out her own heart, all his hopes and dreams were coming true. She couldn’t deny him that and besides, their relationship was business only. It just wasn’t meant to be. “I hope you’re happy Inuyasha.” She placed the cup on the coffee table and laid her head down on the fluffy arm of the couch as tears streamed down her face in a torrent.

She was so stupid sometimes she even amazed herself. She left before getting the report from him and had not only screwed up any future relationship with him but also her degree. She sniffled a few more times then sat back up wiping the tears from her face. Slowly she made her way into the kitchen to get a towel and dry her face. As she walked back into the living room a knock came from the front door. She glanced at the window and could see the snow falling heavily. With a frown she walked over to the door and looked out the peek hole. She smiled to herself as she unbolted the locks and swung the door open. “Ranger Roger!” She said brightly with a smile and a giggle. She loved his name, it was so ironic she couldn’t resist giggling. The mountain of a man in his early forties smiled at her as he took his hat off.

“Sorry to bother you Miss but a car went off the road a ways back. The driver said he was looking for the most wonderful girl in the world and just had to get to her tonight before he lost his nerve. Even in a storm like this that takes some guts and devotion. Considering my wife is already taken, I brought him here because I just couldn’t think of anyone else he could be thinking about all the way up here.” Ranger Roger stepped to the side and revealed the last person she thought she would ever see again.

“Inuyasha?” She said surprised as the boy smiled at her widely.

“Hi Kagome.” He said sheepishly.

“Ok so you do know him. Then it’s alright to leave him here?” The ranger asked. Kagome looked back up at him.

“Oh yeah. Did you want to come in for some coffee or something?” She asked politely but the ranger shook his head no.

“Nah...I gotta get back to the cabin before my wife has a fit. She wasn’t too keen on me bringing this guy up here with out you knowing but I had the feeling he was very serious about what he was saying.” Ranger Roger said with a smile. “Besides the snow is going to get pretty deep and I don’t want to get snowed in up here. You gonna be alright?” He asked concerned.

“Yeah I have more food then I could possibly eat on my own before spring and the shed is full of wood. With all the snow I don’t think we are going to be hurting for water either. We’re good.” She smiled back at him.

“I’ll leave him with you then.” The ranger put his hat back on and walked back out to his big 4X4 to head back down the mountain. Kagome held the door open for Inuyasha while he came in and dusted the snow from his clothes.

“So you were in an accident? Are you ok?” She asked as she took his leather coat and hung it up to dry before taking a seat on the couch. He immediately went over to the fire to warm himself.

“Yeah, just shook me up a little bit. Miroku’s car isn’t in too good a shape though. Hit a patch of ice just past the ranger station. Roger saw me go by and figured something was going to happen so he followed. His wife is real nice. She made me set still while she warmed up some supper.” He replied without looking at her.

“That’s good.” Kagome said absentmindedly afraid to ask the one question that was really pertinent at the moment. They were both silent for a while as he warmed himself near the fire. Kagome’s eyes were fixed on the steam that rose from the wet spot on his bottom.

“Like what you see?” He joked getting her attention. She blushed and looked away.

“So things going ok for you and Kikyo?” She asked finally wanting to get this over with and to find out why he was adding more pain to her already aching heart.

“Yeah, we’re good. How about you?” He answered watching her closely.

“Who me? Just peachy.” She forced a smile. “Let me get you something warm to drink. It’ll help warm you up.” She stood and walked quickly past him but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back against him.

“Don’ t you want to know why I’m here?” He asked softly against her ear making her shiver.

“I figured you’d tell me when you were ready.” She forced down a gulp as his hand slid down her arm to her wrist then back up again.

“I’m ready.” He leaned closer making her shiver.

“Oh ok.” She whispered and turned her head to smile at him but before she knew it his lips were pressed firmly against hers. His arm snaked wrapped around her waist pulling her flush with his body as his other hand cupped her cheek. His tongue ran gently across her bottom lip playfully asking for entrance. She gasped when his arm loosened and his hand cupped her breast. His tongue slid into her wet cavern tasting every place he could. She moaned as she melted into him and wrapped her arms around his neck. After several minutes of heated passion they broke apart for air. “I thought you were going to tell me why you are here.” She said breathlessly.

“What you need me to explain again? Ok.” He grinned and leaned down to kiss her again. She avoided it as she stepped back but he caught her by the waist and pulled her back to him. His lips attacked her neck sucking and nipping up and down it.

“Inuyasha. Be serious.” She whined in gasping moans.

“How dense are you? I am explaining why I’m here silly.” He chuckled at the pout on her lips. He swooped in and kissed her gently then broke away to look into her still slightly puffy eyes. “I’m here for you.” He watched the torrent of emotions run across her eyes as she tried to process what he meant. He decided to take pity on her and explain. “I can’t stand the thought of my day going by with out you there. I don’t want to live a life with out you in it. I can live with out Kikyo but you...you’re like a part of my soul. When you’re gone I feel like I’m falling apart. I feel worthless. I need you Kagome. Do you understand now?” He looked into her eyes as they filled with tears. She blinked causing them to run down her face. He kissed them as they dropped then kissed her lips softly. She threw her arms around his neck and let the tears fall.

“But...but what...about...Kikyo?” She stammered out after pulling away.

“I had a long talk with her. I think she understands now that what I felt was something more akin to a deep friendship because I didn’t know what real love was until I almost lost you.” He answered holding her closer. He stroked her hair gently as she cried into his shirt. After several minutes he rubbed her back making shushing noises to calm her. “Don’t you have something to say?” He asked a bit nervous because of her crying and silence.

“I gave the necklace back and everything. Why did you wait so long to say anything?” She smacked his chest playfully as she wiped the tears from her cheeks.

“I was confused and thought maybe you were just doing it because of the deal and that you didn’t really mean to make me feel this way. That is what I told myself anyway but inside I couldn’t stand not knowing for sure so here I am.” He rocked her back and forth as he hugged her.

“I’m glad you came. I don’t think I could have spent another night imagining what you two were doing and being all jealous and stuff.” She sniffled wrapping her arms around his neck tightly.

“By the way, didn’t your mother teach you it’s rude to give back presents that you get for your birthday?” He scowled at her. Kagome’s eyes grew large and she began to chew on her lip. “Didn’t I tell you that’s a bad habit.” He said and kissed her lip softly.

“I’m sorry.” She said hanging her head. “I didn’t want you to regret giving it to me after what Kikyo said about your mom telling you to give it to someone you really care about.”

“I did give it to the person I really cared about.” He lifted her chin with his fingers so she would look into his eyes. “If I had wanted to give it to Kikyo, I would have done it a long time ago but something kept telling me to hold on to it. Giving it to you was what my heart told me to do. It is very precious to me just like you so you two belong together.” He kissed her forehead then pulled the chain out of his pocket. Carefully he placed it around her neck then aligned the pendant on her chest like it should be. “There,” he said smiling. “That looks much better.” She smiled up at him while she fingered the glowing pink orb between her fingers. “By the way, Sess said to tell you thank you for the gift.” Kagome glanced at him and blushed.

“So he liked it then? I wasn’t sure if it might be a little...” she paused blushing.

“Risky?” Inuyasha finished for her. “He said he has never had a massage like that before. He said it was perfect.”

“So they got along ok? I was sort of worried. Rin is a bit forward sometimes.” Kagome laughed.

“Yeah I’ll say. She has him wrapped around her finger already and it’s only been a day. Personally I think it’s love.” Inuyasha chuckled with her. They hugged each other until their fit of giggles left then Kagome looked down at the floor sheepishly.

“I guess I’ve been a little impulsive.” She couldn’t help but run her finger over the smooth orb again to make sure that it was really there.

“I’ll say. You left without handing in your report.” He said as he began to unbutton his wet shirt.

“Oh God, don’t remind me.” Kagome flushed feeling embarrassed from her stupidity.

“Good thing you have a friend like Sango.” He went on as he took it off and spread it across a chair near the fire to dry. Kagome looked at him with large eyes then blushed realizing his lack of clothes.

“Oh?” She questioned clearing her throat. He smirked and reached for her hands pulling her closer to him again.

“Yeah with Miroku’s and my help of course she finished your report and we handed it in for you yesterday. Sango explained to your professor that you had a very emotional emergency to attend to suddenly and asked her to give it to him.” His hands settled on her hips as his eyes scanned her face for a reaction.

“You guys did that for me?” She whispered looking at him with large eyes brimming with new tears again. He smiled and kissed her gently.

“Yes we did it for you.” He leaned in closer and nibbled on her ear lobe as he stepped closer.

“Mmm...what can...I say?” She moaned. Her own hands began to run small circles over his tight muscles making them jump under her feather light touch.

“Not much but I think you have too many clothes on.” He replied huskily as his hands slid under her sweater lifting it up her body until he pulled it over her head.

“Oh I see where this is going.” She hissed in delight as his thumbs ran carelessly over her bare flesh.

“So you’re catching on now.” He looked down at her passion filled face as she nodded. “For the service I gave in finishing your paper, I think the year’s worth of sex will do.” She looked at him with shock on her face.

“Are you serious?” She grinned at his nod. “Do you know how many more term papers I’ll have to write before I get my degree?” She faked sarcasm.

“A lot. Years worth.” He looked into her eyes.

“Years worth of payment.” She concluded.

“And sex as the currency.” He snickered at her laugh. “Boo rah for me.” He chuckled as he kneeled down to the furry rug in front of the fire place taking her with him. The fire’s glow surrounded them as he showed her once again who he chose to give himself to completely.

AN: A bit cliche` there at the end but I was running out of writing juice. Thank you to all who have read this and enjoyed it. I will try to get another story posted soon. But since I personally hate it when I get into a story and the author never finishes it, I won’t begin to post until I have all the chapters in rough draft so all they need is some editing. Anyway, you will see me again soon. Ja ne!
