“So you can’t use Tetsuiga?” Sango asked
“Not unless I want it shattered to a thousand pieces. Shrugen flew off to find Totosai although I doubt he will be willing to reforge it. Remember the first time it broke? I had to beat his head so many times I thought it would cave in. And that was just to convince him to reforge Tetsuiga.”
“Convince? You mean force.”
“Yeah, yeah whatever.”
It had been a day since they found out about the fractured Tetsuiga. Shrugen immediately took off to find Totosai and bring him back while Sesshomaru just left without a word. Kagome and Koga did not return last night; the group merely assumed that Kagome went back to her own time with Koga hanging on her leg, begging her not to go. Inuyasha and Sango now sat underneath the god tree looking down over the village from the hill it rested on.
“So what are you going to do now?”
“Well I guess I’ll just take it easy for today. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to relax and unwind with all the training going on. But as long as I have you Sango, one day is all I’ll need.”
“Flatterer.” Sango said and leaned in to kiss him. They were both surprised to her a soft giggle next to them. Looking to their left the saw a little girl. She had black hair, kind brown eyes and wore a very disarming smile. She was dressed in a white and orange checkered kimono. The little girl giggled once more then ran into the forest shouting “Lord Sesshomaru, I found them!”
“Very well Rin.”
Both Inuyasha and Sango leapt to their feet at hearing Sesshomaru’s reply. Looking behind the god tree they both saw Sesshomaru emerge from the forest followed by Jaken and Ah-Un. Inuyasha cocked an eyebrow as he saw the little girl run up to Sesshomaru’s leg and hug it.
“I thought you hated humans Sesshomaru. I thought they were weak and pathetic creatures not worthy of your recognition.”
“Do not patronize me Inuyasha. Rin is merely a servant.”
“Sure she is.” Inuyasha mocked.
“Alright, alright break it up you two. Sesshomaru I’m surprised you came back so soon. You usually try to avoid being around us.”
“Make no mistake; I stay here only to see the fate of Tetsuiga. As well as to judge what exactly you relationship with each other is.”
“We are mates Sesshomaru.” Said Inuyasha circling his arms around Sangos waist. “That’s all there is to it.”
“We shall see.”
“Inuyasha!” Shouted Shippo running up the hill. “Shrugen’s back with Totosai. They’ll be at the village in a few minutes.”
Shippo hitching a ride on Inuyashas head, they all went down to the village to meet them. As they reached the village a large shadow flew over them circled around and its creator landed in front of them beating his wings to slow his decent and landed. Shortly after Shrugen landed Totosai came up the pathway riding his three eyed ox.
“Hello Totosai you bug-eyed senile old fart.” Inuyasha said as Totosai got off of his ox.
“Inuyasha, as brutish and uncultured as ever I see. So what is the problem? Your friend here says you chipped Tetsuiga? Ah, it will be an easy fix.”
“Wait.” Shrugen protested. “I didn’t say-”
“Honestly I don’t see why you needed to bring me all the way here. Even with a small piece missing it will still work perfectly.” Totosai continued not hearing Shrugen.
“Uh, Totosai it’s not exactly-” Inuyasha tried to explain but once Totosai droned on.
“But then again I can’t really blame you for worrying about it. After you broke Tetsuiga I was half worrying that with you it might happen again, but since you called me here to fix a minor chip I should be glad that it is in safe and caring hands. Ok then, draw Tetsuiga and sets see what the problem is.”
Inuyasha new what would be coming. Once Totosai so the condition of his greatest creation he would no doubt have a heart attack after he walloped Inuyasha on the head with his mallet. With a heavy sigh, Inuyasha drew Tetsuiga. As soon as Totosai looked at the swords state his jaw dropped and gazed at it in disbelief.
Just as Inuyasha guessed, a to hammer to his temple followed by, “ Inuyasha, what have you done to this poor sword!?” Totosai suddenly turned around and pointed accusingly at Shrugen. “You! You said it was just a chip in the blade!”
“I said nothing of the sort! I told you at least twenty times that Inuyasha had fractured Tetsuiga and needed you to fix it!”
“Oh yeah, that’s right.” Totosai said scratching his chin. Everyone sweat dropped at his slow recollection.
“Enough of this foolishness. Totosai can you fix the sword or not?” Sesshomaru said.
“Well now let me see.” Said Totosai as he examined the blade. “What was it that cracked the blade?”
“Inuyasha did it. It turns out he has holy powers and when he tried to use the wind scar, holy energy came out instead.” Sango replied.
Totosai lifted his eyebrows in wonder. “Holy energy you say? Well no wonder the blade cracked; although the sword itself isn’t exactly a pushover when dealing with your average holy powers. It must have been an incredibly strong attack to have cracked Tetsuiga.”
“It was. It vaporized a great cat lord and half of a forest.”
“Incredible! I fear though that I have little experience when it comes to matters of holy powers. I might be able to fix the blade but I am not sure now that purifying powers have been channeled through it. Even if I did, I don’t know how to prevent this from happening again.”
“So there’s really nothing you can do huh?” Said Inuyasha, his hope fading.
“As much as it shames me to say it no there is nothing I can do to fix Tetsuiga. It would take someone who has devoted their life to learning the secrets of the forge and have an in depth knowledge of enchanting weapons with holy powers. Knowing that alone would take three of my lifetimes. I fear Inuyasha that fixing Tetsuiga is a lost cause.”
“Maybe not.” Said Shrugen.
“You know someone who can properly enchant and fix Tetsuiga?” Totosai asked
“Well I don’t really know him. I know ‘of’ him though. He is a master forger and has had much success in enchanting items. His name is Hephaestus.”
“Hephaestus? I have never heard of him; and that name sounds outlandish.”
“You are right he is not from this land. He hails from a place far west of here called Greece.”
“Grease? What kind of name is that? And how do you know about it?”
“Well, from what I read in his journals, when my father was alive he grew board with his mundane life and decided to go on a retreat to foreign lands. He ended up in Greece. At first he tried to lay low and enjoy the scenery but one day a woman has spotted his physical differences and thinking he was a spy called on her god, Artimis, for aid saying he was going to kill her followers. The goddess appeared and was about to slay my father when he transformed into his demon form and took flight. Surprised she took after him and once she established that she would not harm him he told her where he came from and why he was here. After hearing his story, Artimis went to Mt. Olympus to speak with the father of the gods, Zeus. Since the gods usually do not foreign beings in their lands Artimis spoke on my father s behalf and he was allowed to stay there for as long as he wished.”
“Wait. Are you saying that this Hephaestus is a god?”
“Yes and I know of a way to call him to this land. If you give me a few minutes I should get his attention and then we can talk to him about your sword Inuyasha.”
Shrugen disappeared into Kaede’s hut and after a few moments of listening to items being shifted around; he emerged with a small jug of oil and headed to the outskirts of the village everyone else following close behind. Once they were out of sight of the village Shrugen began to pour the oil on a dirt patch, creating a circle about fifteen feet it diameter. Inside the circle Shrugen created two symbols overlapping each other. On the left was a hammer and on the right was a pair of tongs. Once he was done Shrugen tossed aside the empty jar and stood in front of the circle. With a snap of his fingers sparks flew from them and landed on the oil, igniting it. As the symbols burned Shrugen spoke in a foreign language.
“Hephaestus cuminos verantai eminos.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a red light began to glow within the fire. Dark clouds of smoke billowed forth but stayed within the circle. Soon the smoke began to take shape, the form of a man. Seconds later the fires died down and the smoke cleared to reveal a man hunched over with a walking stick in his right hand. The man had black hair and flaming red eyes. He wore a red cap on his head, a white shirt that covered the left side of his muscular chest, and deep burgundy pants that reached his knees. After looking at his surroundings, he notices the group and he addressed them.
“I am Hephaestus, lord and master of the forge and keeper of the flame. Who has called me?”
Shrugen stepped forward and bowed. “Lord Hephaestus, I am the on who called you here.”
“And why would you do that mortal? I know not this land or its inhabitants and only a select few know how to call upon a god.”
“I called you lord Hephaestus because we need your help. A very powerful sword has been broken, and no one, not even its creator can fix it.”
“You have my attention mortal.”
Hmmm. Not exactly as much as I wanted in this chapter but ill make up for it in the next one. So tell me what you guys and girls (if there are any reading this) think so far. No one has answered my request for a beta but I’m still hopeful that someone will. Well until the next chapter farewell!
