Chapter Eleven


"I must say I wasn't expecting this. Your tact was flawless girl but I don't like to be made the fool."

Kagome saw the energy as he gathered it into himself. His hair turned into a blonde color, in her opinion making him look even more sinister. Anger and disbelief was still in his eyes as he took a step forward. She used her arms to skid across the ground, dragging along on her backside. Whatever she had done he seemed beyond angry.

She cried out when a sharp pain entered her arm, the skin busted and blood came out. Her hand came back covered in her blood. The next pain came in her leg right above the ankle. A tear slid down her face when the next hit her hip.

"I may not be able to kill you now but I can make you wish you were dead."

Her eyes focused as bright light appeared in front of her stomach. She felt the pain the instance it exploded against her tender flesh. Her mind concentrated and the barrier went up protecting her. A loud curse filled the air but the assault continued. Tears streamed down her face as she watched the bombs explode into the barrier. He was trying to break it down.

Fear filled her when she was suddenly surrounded by them, they hit the barrier and she cried out. Her eyes closed as she concentrated on keeping it in place. Terror filled her when she suddenly had the desire to drop it. A strange tugging inside began almost like a lull, calming her senses. She felt herself begin to relax, the desire to drop her shield became strong.

Her eyes opened to see that not only was she surrounded, they were constantly coming at her. She could no long make out Karasu through all the smoke. The voice told her to let it go, her shoulders dropped and the barrier went down.

The first one hit her in the back, it stunned her. Soon she felt herself being hit all over as they all hit her at once. Her flesh was being torn as the pain consumed her. His gasp of suprise was heard before she felt herself tipping over.

Karasu felt himself lose control when the bond had been formed. He'd never heard of a human being able to form that kind of bond with a youkai. Most youkai didn't do it. Now he wouldn't be able to take her away, his life would end with hers. His intent was to punish her for decieving him, she'd known what she'd been doing all along. His rage increased when she threw up the barrier stopping him from sating his need to cause her pain. He would tear it down then teach her, her place.

It was a lot stronger than he would have suspected, his bombs continued to explode against it. He sent the last wave in, hardly seeing anything through the dust and smoke. Nothing could be heard as they exploded, within seconds he smelt her blood. Impossible he hadn't even dented the barrier, the rest of the bombs disappeared. He went over to find her laying on her side, the last wave had hit nothing but her. Worry washed over him, he tossed it up to the fact that if he'd just killed her then he would die as well.

He leaned over and picked her back up. The assault had stopped in time before it could kill her, she would heal. As he held her he felt a strange aura coming from her. It mixed with her own, swirling around only to come out on it's own. It crept along his arms, his eyes narrowed as he recognized it as youkai. How could the girl have the aura of a youkai nature inside her?


Shiori watched as the door swung open. The same man came in once more depositing a girl on the bed. She gasped at seeing the wounds all over the young woman. Blood covered her body, the only spot not touched was her face. The man glared at her so she didn't dare move. The strange older woman came in and hurried to the bed.

The man left saying he was going to see a Bui. Shiori watched as the older lady none too gently began cleaning the girl off. Most of the blood was cleaned off, she slapped some bandages on the worst ones. Obviously the woman wasn't a professional. As soon as the woman left she went over to check on the girl. So far she hadn't been injured. The girl moaned and slowly opened her eyes.

"Uhh, where am I?" Kagome was suprised to see the older woman sitting next to her. She had ahold of her hand.

"You are seriously hurt, try to get some rest."

"Where did he go?" Kagome felt a tear slid out the corner of her eye. Her body felt like it was on fire, her muscles screamed in pain. Why had he attacked her? True he hadn't been a gentleman or sweet before but he had never attacked her before.

"The weird looking man? He said something about going to see a Bui. He left some time ago." Shiori tried to stop her when the girl began to sit up. "Don't you'll kill yourself."

"So be it, besides we need to get you out of here." Kagome felt some of the wounds open up, she tried to concentrate on healing them. The most she could do was stop the bleeding for some reason. The loss of blood had left her weak no doubt. She looked around, there was no way out.

"The door is locked, the woman doesn't even come in. She's been slipping food and water through the hole in the door."

"How many floors are we up?"

"None from what I saw when I was brought in."

"Even better, stand back." She'd been able to knock down a wall earlier with a surge of her energy. Her eyes closed and she concentrated on finding that same feeling once more. Relief filled her when she felt the same stirring as before. The energy came forth again, she felt it release from her body. The sound of concrete cracking then exploding was heard.

Shiori couldn't believe her eyes as the girl emitted some sort of strange light knocking the wall down. Footsteps were heard running into the hall, "They are coming."

Kagome heard them as well, she grabbed the woman's hand. "Let's go." She felt her wounds reopen as they began to run. Her legs were threatening to give out on her but she kept going. There was no way she would be there when he returned. Even if he said he couldn't kill her, she had to think of the other woman. If her body gave out she'd make sure it happened after the other woman was safe.

A youkai appeared before them, the older woman screamed. Kagome stopped, her power came to life on it's own. Her aura flared and struck out, within seconds he turned to ash. They began running through the woods, the whole time her aura stayed up destroying any youkai in their path.

As soon as they cleared the woods, Kagome felt herself step past some type of ward. They ran a few more yards before her legs gave out on her. She fell to the ground and cried out in pain. Her aura calmed to a low simmer. "Go."

"No, I won't leave you here. Come on, lean on me."

Kagome felt the woman try to haul her up. Her arm was placed over Shiori's shoulders, trying to help support her weight. "Leave me. You won't make it carrying me."

"Then I won't make it." She couldn't leave the wounded girl, not when she had just saved her. "One foot at a time, that's it."

Hiei scanned the area one last time, it was hopeless. Wherever they were being hidden, it was in a strong warded place. He couldn't sense anyone that he was looking for which angered him. The miko was there only hope of finding any of them. Yet the fox had scared her. Back to square one again.

He didn't move as Kurama came to stand next to him. His thoughts went back to his sister, what he had seen. Bui had indeed claimed her as his, the bastard's seed had been all over her. Other than being scared she hadn't seemed injured. Which made him wonder exactly what game the man was playing at. One way to get revenge would have been to kill her. It also made him think about what he hadn't sensed or smelt. There had been no trace of blood on her. From the scent he'd guess that Bui had recently been with her yet there had been no blood indicating a forced mating. Had his sister enjoyed the man's touch and given herself to him?

He didn't want to accept that, she didn't want the man. Bui would die for forcing his attention's on his sister. The bastard would die by his hands, he would free her. Guilt consumed him that he had failed her in the first place. Then he'd done it again by letting the man escape with her.

"Hiei, maybe we should call it a day." Kurama spoke beside him, his voice laced with guilt and worry.

"Hn." Maybe it was time to head back. Something tugged at him suddenly, "Wait." Yes, it had appeared strong then faded, barely noticable now. "This way."

Kurama followed him wondering what he had sensed. They ran for over an hour before he sensed anything himself. "Think it's the girl?"

"It's her but it appears she is alone." He continued to run in the direction he sensed it. "Her energy is weakening, we best hurry."

Kurama saw her in the distance, she wasn't alone. "Mother."

Shiori saw the two men approaching them, her heart soared when she recognized her son. Tears streamed down her face. The girl's weight was dragging her down but she wouldn't release her not even to go to her son. The small man her son hung around got to them first, "Please she's hurt."

Hiei took the girl from her and picked her up. He could see the many wounds covering her body, looked like Karasu had decided to play target practice with her. She moaned in his arms as his arms put pressure on several of the wounds.

"Shuichi."

Relief filled him when she threw herself in his arms, she was real. "Mother, are you okay?" He didn't see any signs of her being hurt.

"I'm fine. I wasn't the one hurt." Her eyes fell on Kagome.

"I'm going ahead or she won't make it. Be careful." Hiei left the fox there, he knew he was taking a chance leaving them alone but he had no choice. They couldn't afford for the miko to die. He ran as fast as he could trying to make it Koenma in time.
