The Festival: A Marriage Ceremony p 2

Kagome was so happy to finally have her family meet the people that she spoke of so fondly. She was happy to see their faces when they looked around old Japan. Sota and Shippo became fast friends. Sota showed Shippo had to play with his game boy. Kagome knew she would have to get him one now. Grandfather took a shine on Kaede in fact it was strange because some how they kind of already new each other but they didn’t know exactly how. Sango liked Kagome’s mother a lot. And Miroku lavished her with lots of praise of beauty.

“Now I know where Kagome gets her radiance. She has your shine.”

“I know you monk; Kagome’s already told me all about you and your lecherous ways. It’s a wonder you didn’t get your hands on Kagome before InuYasha.”

Kagome reddened and Miroku shrugged.

“Actually, InuYasha has had to threaten me several times to leave her alone. Then Sango came along and I was tamed by her quiet storm.”

Now Sango blushed and elbowed him in the rib. Kagome’s mom laughed. After some time has passed Kagome needed some time to herself. There was too much excitement going on and she needed a quiet place to think. She started thinking about their child.

‘My daughter would be a quarter demon, how would the people react to her? Would she lead a lonely life like InuYasha did? Not so many people are as understanding to half breeds. Oh how am I going to protect her?’

She heard something rustle in the bushes. She peered into the darkness but couldn’t see anything.

“Hello, mom? Sango? InuYasha?”

She pulled an arrow out from habit; however, she couldn’t sense an aura of any kind.

‘Maybe it was just the wind.’ Nevertheless, she turned around and headed back to the village briskly just in case.

Meanwhile…

The little toad of a hobgoblin raced back to his lord.

“Lord Sesshomaru, lord Sesshomaru it’s true!”

He smacked right up against the demon’s leg.

“Tell me Jakin, is my little brother truly getting married?”

“Yes my lord, tomorrow at mid day. Oh, and lord Sesshomaru…she is with child as well.”

“Hmmm.”

“Oh how romantic lord Sesshomaru.”

The little girl Rin chirped.

“Can we go to your brothers wedding and wish them well?”

She gave him a toothy smile.

“Stupid girl, Lord Sesshomaru despises InuYasha, he would never go.”

Jakin folded is arms matter of factly and put his nose in the air to her. She didn’t pay him any attention, she kept picking up the daisies that were growing in the field and made a lay.

“We will go Rin.” Sesshomaru replied.

The little hobgoblin fell over with shock, than ran up to the powerful demon apologizing and Rin walked on the other side of the man she loved continuing to pick up flowers to make a wreath for her head.

“My lord, can I get a new dress for the occasion too?”

Sesshomaru looked at the little girl who put a soft spot in his heart somehow. He didn’t understand why he softened for this girl, but he did everything to make her happy since she lived such a sorrowful life before her death by the wolves. She pleased him somehow. She on the other hand loved him the moment she saw him in the woods wounded and he growled at her when she came near and told her to be gone. She’d received a beating for stealing fish from the villagers to feed him and when he saw her black and blues he felt anger rise within him and compassion? These emotions made him curious enough to bring her back with the Tensusaiga, the sword his father bequeathed to him.

“Yes Rin we’ll make sure you are dressed appropriately.”

The next day…

Kagome’s mom and Sango helped Kagome ready herself in a wedding kimono. It was white as fresh snow with ivory pearls embedded into it. It was covered with shell colored butterflies with red silk entwined in its wings. Sango tied up Kagome’s hair with a tooth comb made of pearls. It was an heirloom.

Kagome prayed that nothing will happen on this day. Miroku stood out front dressed in a special robe that Sango had made for the occasion. Also too, Kagome noticed that InuYasha wore the robes her father wore on his wedding day to her mother. Tears began to well up in her eyes. How handsome he looked. Some of the villagers played soft music while the ceremony was in affect. They shared the ceremonial tea while Miroku offered up special prayers for them. They had said their vows and Miroku blessed those too. They were now married. As they stepped off the platform InuYasha had a sense that his brother was near.

“Damn…Sesshomaru.”

“What!” Kagome responded looking around worriedly.

The clouds began to hover darkly as his older brother descended riding on his two headed dragon. Kagome’s mom nearly fainted and Sota hid behind Shippo while Shippo tried to hide behind Sota. Grandpa tried to get his scrolls in order to ward off the demon, however, Kaede stopped him quietly. Rin had jumped down and ran straight to Kagome.

“What do you want Sesshomaru, you have a lot of nerve showing up here on my wedding day.” InuYasha growled menacingly.

“I came to see my little brother get married. All the demons are speaking about it, they say too that you are to take the wolf lords place and lord over his pride. Is this true InuYasha?”

“Yeah, what of it?”

Sesshomaru looked over to Rin than back to InuYasha. He understood where his father’s love for InuYasha’s mother came from. At that moment her realized that he had loved that little girl, a human. She turned around and smiled at him he saw her so happy to be talking to Kagome. She just chatted away with nonsense telling Kagome about how she acquired her dress and why she got a new dress. Sesshomaru felt his hatred for his brother dissipate.

InuYasha had already gotten the Tetsusaiga out. But Sesshomaru held up a hand in the negative.

“InuYasha put the Tetsusaiga away. I am not here to fight you…little brother. I came to give you a gift.”

InuYasha’s eyes widened, so too for Sango, Miroku and Kagome. They all remembered the fights that the two brothers had.

“Are you making peace with InuYasha then Sesshomaru?”

The monk questioned.

Sesshomaru looked at the monk momentarily before reaching into one of the folds of his robe. He pulled out an ornamented box. He handed it to InuYasha opened. Within was a rose colored jade bracelet with golden clasps.

“Give this to my sister Kagome. It’s a present from me. I wish you both happiness and peace.”

“I’m not buying it, what are you up to?”

Rin walked over in front of Sesshomaru.

“Do you not like it? I picked it out at the market. Lord Sesshomaru couldn’t go into the village so he sent me.”

InuYasha saw the pride in Sesshomaru’s eyes when he looked at the little girl. Understanding InuYasha put his sword away and accepted the gift. He looked at his brother again.

“So you…”

“Yes, I do. I understand. I must go now.” With that he turned to leave his hair flowing in the wind as his robes caught the current as well. Looking over his shoulder one last time to quickly look at his brother and his companions again he said:

“I’ll be watching you little brother…old habits are hard to break, and by the way, take care of my niece.”

Rin and Jakin followed. Rin said good-bye to everyone and ran to catch up with Sesshomaru; however, she didn’t realize he slowed down to allow her to catch up. InuYasha stood there unbelieving.

‘Are my brother and I family now?’

Again he looked at Kagome and realized that since she came into his life things have changed. His heart swelled with emotions he couldn’t explain at the moment. He just new he wanted to be alone with her.
