The Theory of the Well
Another long chapter, this chapter has references to my original Coyote Tricks story which can be found on Fan Fiction.net or Media Miner. It wasn’t an adult story so I didn’t post it here. You don’t have to read it to understand this chapter but it will help. This is probably the last we going to see of sex for awhile, as I’ve decide to turn the stories more dramatic for a while so enjoy.
As usual, if you have not read the warnings and disclaimers in the first chapter, please do so now before proceeding.
This chapter is rated NC-17 for Yaoi.
Chapter: The Theory of the Well
A month passed as they waited for Spirit Singer to return. Kit explained to them the complicated conjunction of the solar and lunar tides that determined when Kit’s change would occur. They quickly figured out how the move to Japan had thrown off the calculation so they would be prepared for the next change.
A call from Spirit Singer then sent Shippo and Toshiro to visit the library of the Lord of the Western Lands for information. Singer’s research had indicated that there was a connection between Lord Sesshomaru’s father and the original sealing of the well. Given his history with the Demon Lord, Kit elected to remain and explore the area while they were gone.
Shippo and Toshiro returned to an empty house. All indications were that Kit had been gone for at least a week.
“Well he did say he was going to find something to do while we were gone” Toshiro said.
“Yes but for a whole week? I had better go track him down.” Shippo said.
Shippo set out in fox form following the last scent trail that Kit had left. It led him further into the neighborhood known as Nermia. It eventually was overlapped by several scent trails that Shippo was certain were also made by Kit but they were different. It seemed the Coyote had changed his form. Following the trail to one end led him to a local school, Furikan High empty at this time of night. Following the trail to the other end, he found it lead to a home. The sign out front read “Tendo Dojo”. Shippo leapt up on the wall that surrounded the house and dojo and examined the structure.
He noticed two teenage girls standing on a second story balcony looking out into the evening. He sniffed picking up their scents and was certain one of them was his missing coyote. A dog howled in the distance.
“Its odd,” one of the girls said, “you never used to hear dogs howling around here. Now it seems like at least one is every night.”
“Yes,” the other answered, “pretty isn’t it.”
“I guess. So do you think I’ll ever be able to master hammer space?”
“You know everything you need to know now. Yes, you can only summon it using your anger but eventually with practice you will master it.”
“Ok, I guess,” the first girl sighed. Then she looked up suddenly. “How odd a couple of weeks ago it was a coyote and now a fox, look.”
The second girl looked down where the first was pointing and meet Shippo’s eyes.
‘That’s him’ Shippo thought ‘but what is he doing here with that girl?’
Kit and the fox stared at each other for a few seconds.
“I think it is time for me to go,” Kit said at last.
“Oh must you?”
“Yes I think so first thing in the morning but for now how about a bath before we go to bed.” Kit said looking back at Shippo with a wink.
‘Bath?’ Shippo thought and jumped down into the street. ‘Just what has he been up to?’
Early the next morning Kit with her pack stepped out the gate and proceeded down the street. Turning the corner a red fox fell in step beside her.
“So Shippo, how was his Lordship?” Kit asked.
With a pop and flash of fox fire, the red fox disappeared and in its place was Shippo wearing jeans and T-shirt whose flame design complemented his reddish brown hair nicely.
“Oh you know Sesshy, ‘Great Lord of the Western Lands’ always lording over us common youki. You think he would mellow with age. I gathered from Jaken that he still is holding a grudge from the last time you met.”
As Shippo spoke Kit’s form was gradually changing until after a moment, with pointed ears and tail he walked along side Shippo and spoke up. “Hey I wasn’t the one that put the pink hair dye in that shampoo he uses for his tail; I just took the blame for it.”
“No, but you put me up to it and I do have to live in the same country with him you know,” Shippo answered in his defense. “I see you’ve been busy. I hope you haven’t been into too much mischief, I really don’t want any spirit detectives hunting me.”
“Oh I didn’t get into too much trouble, at least nothing that would get Lord Koenma’s people in a tizzy. Let’s just say that Nermia isn’t as boring as it used to be.” Kit said with a grin.
“And who is the girl I saw you with?”
“Oh that’s Akane Tendo, I was teaching here how to pull a hammer out of etherspace.”
“Oh is that all” Shippo said in a voice that implied he didn’t believe that for a moment.
“Of course, I wouldn’t take advantage of 15 year old girl.” Kit looked thoughtful for a moment. “Well maybe I would but only if she really begged me to.”
“I seem to recall something about a bath.”
“Oh that, well just because I wouldn’t touch doesn’t mean I can’t look…” Kit started “wait a minute, you’re jealous aren’t you?”
“Who me?” Shippo said defensively “I’m a five tailed Kitsune, I’m not so petty as to be jealous of a coyote kit and some teenage girl. Beside you know I have no claim on you, if you want to seek another lover that is your prerogative.”
“Oh well if that is how you feel” Kit said looking off into space “maybe I should see if Akane if avail…Yip!”
Kit was cut off as Shippo grabbed him and pulled him into an alley. Throwing him up against a wall Shippo stuck his face into Kit’s.
“You want to know how I feel.” The fox said and grabbing Kit’s head kissed him hard as he pressed him against the wall with his body. Kit was quick to return the passionate embrace.
“Know how I feel now?” Shippo said when they broke for air.
“You’re glad to see me?” Kit said and rubbed himself against Shippo a little more. “Or is that a banana?”
“You’re incorrigible” Shippo laughed.
“Of course” Kit said licking at Shippo’s chin in gesture of atonement then he whispered in Shippo’s ear “first one home gets to be on top.”
“Huh?” Shippo said but no answer was forthcoming as Kit had transformed to coyote and slipping between Shippo’s legs took off around the corner.
“Hey that’s not fair!” Shippo called and assuming his fox form gave chase.
“Hello?” Spirit Singer called.
He and Kaemon stood in the entry way of Shippo’s home. Their research trip had dragged out for a full month. Now they had returned but no one had answered the bell and they found the door unlocked. Kaemon had placed the box he was carrying down for a moment to remove his street shoes.
“Looks like Shippo and Kit are here” he said looking at the shoes in the storage rack next to the door.
They went into the living area and Kaemon sat down on the couch and put the box he was carrying on the table. Singer was still standing referring to a notepad he was carrying.
“I’ll get Kit” he said and started back towards the guest rooms still engrossed in his notes. He was so engrossed that he failed to note the sounds from behind the door as he approached Kit’s room. He gave a quick tap on the door and entered without even waiting for a reply. He opened his mouth to call Kit’s name and promptly closed it again with a small snap. He quickly backed out of the room again, blushing.
Shippo had lost the race and Kit had wasted no time in hauling him to the bedroom to relieve some of the sexual frustration they had built up over the last couple of weeks while Shippo was gone.
Shippo seemed to become distracted for a moment but Kit solved that by redoubling his efforts. The Kitsune lying under him on the bed began moaning now in pleasure to Kit’s increased efforts. The feel of the footpads and fur around them tickled Kit’s shoulders as he shifted to drive deeper. Kit looked down at the Shippo’s face as the fox reached his peak and with a cry arched up as he covered his sweaty body with his own seed. The feel of Shippo’s muscles gripping him drove Kit to his climax and he tipped his head to howl as he joined the fox in release.
“What is that?” Kaemon said as a slightly flustered Singer came back into the common room.
Singer tipped his head, “Oh a coyote howl. Shippo and Kit will be a little bit. How about we go over our notes again while we wait on the others?”
Kit lay with his head on Shippo’s chest, his breathing coming back to normal.
“You should know Spirit Singer walked in on us” Shippo said casually.
“What! Why didn’t you say something?”
“You didn’t give me a chance” Shippo grinned.
“Shit!”
-
They hastily dressed and soon joined Singer and Kaemon in the common room.
“Wise Elder I…” Kit started but was stopped by the shaman’s upraised hand.
“You have nothing to say to me Kit, Master Shippo” Singer said. “If anyone needs to apologize it is me. Let us say nothing more of it, now on to the business at hand.”
Singer motioned for them to sit down. As Kit and Shippo sat on the couch opposite the two humans, Kit noticed the box sitting on the table. It was sealed by several strips of paper with Japanese lettering on them.
At his questioning look, Singer said “we will get to that in a moment.”
“First off we have a theory,” Singer continued. “We think that sometime in the distant past the well was the focus of a portal into the demon realm. Someone sealed that portal but didn’t do the job quite right. Nothing could travel through it anymore but demon energy could still pass through one way to the demon world. As a result the well became a ‘sump’ if you will for demon energy. As you know demon bones are extremely hard and long lasting in order to support their powerful frames. This is a quality of the demon energy in them. This is why demon bones and scales were so prized by Kaemon’s Demon Slayer ancestors because they made such excellent weapons. However because of this ‘sump’ the demon energy in the bones placed in the well was sucked away causing them to disintegrate. That was why it became known as the Bone Eaters Well. But then something happened to change all that.”
“According to the history,” Kaemon picked up. “A demoness known as Mistress Centipede sprang forth from the well in Lady Kagome’s era which we now know is this era and pulled her into the well seeking to gain the Shikon jewel embedded in her body. (See InuYasha Chapter 1.) The power of the jewel created a new junction off the well portal and that junction moved through time instead of space.”
“Now such a change would require a conscious will to direct it.” Singer said. “The will may not have been actually aware that it was creating a rift through time, just expressing a desire to reach someplace. Whether it was Mistress Centipede or the Jewel itself that was the source of that will, I don’t think we will ever know. But I’m sure one of them expressed a desire to return to where they were destroyed which caused the portal to shift in time. But the direction was imprecise, probably because it was an unconscious desire, and fell short of the goal by 50 years.”
“OK,” Shippo said with a nod. “That makes sense so far.”
“Oh wait you don’t know the half of it yet” Kaemon said. “The temple records date back to before it’s founding. The Demon Slayers kept records of the demons they slayed and what became of them. According to those records, Mistress Centipede was killed by the Demon Slayers and her remains were part of their collection of demon artifacts and are there still. We do not know how she came to be in the well in the first place.”
“But her remains were put in the well after she was killed by Inuyasha” Shippo said confused.
“Yes that is true,” Singer said “but those remains disappeared just like all the others and nothing was left by the 20th century. And if those remains were the ones that later emerged as the regenerated Mistress Centipede, how come she did not remember meeting Inuyasha and kill him quickly when she had the chance?”
“But the well will open soon!” Shippo said “I have been the acting Kami for the Higurashi shrine for the last 500 years even though none of the recent caretakers have seen me. I’ve been watching Kagome grow up closely knowing it meant that the time was near. She will be turning 15 in a few days and looks almost exactly like when I first saw her. I even sensed the jewel inside her; I had to strengthen all the wards in place around the shrine grounds and her school because of it. Even in modern day Japan when most remaining demons hide their existence the jewel would bring them out.”
“No need to panic. We think we have a solution to this riddle” Singer continued. “At least I hope we have or history may not occur as you remember it.”
“That will not do,” Shippo said agitatedly “if Kagome does not come through the well and free Inuyasha, Naraku will not be defeated. The entire history of Japan could be changed and a great evil let lose on the world.”
“You are quite correct but as I said we have a solution to this riddle and it is right here.” Singer said pointing to the box on the table.
“What is that?” Kit asked.
Singer tipped his head at Kaemon.
“Mistress Centipede” the archivist answered.

Author’s Note: Hehe I’m working on my cliff hangers but they still need work. As I was saying expect the story to get more dramatic and less PWP from here. In the next installment the well opens and Kagome goes back into the past. Everything is alright with the world and Shippo’s past, or is it? Next Chapter, the group succeeds and disaster strikes in ‘The Well Opens’.
As usual, if you have not read the warnings and disclaimers in the first chapter, please do so now before proceeding.
