Seeing Bankotsu making his way back over, Inuyasha bid the two of them goodnight and made his way back to his wife as Jakotsu began setting out the blankets. For a moment, Bankotsu stood there in front of him just watching; knowing something was trying to grab his attention but unsure of what it was. It wasn't until Jakotsu had started unrolling the second blanket that the pieces of the puzzle finally fit together in Bankotsu's mind.
They were exactly the same blanket. “Jakotsu? Are you certain you were holding your own blanket when you were bitten? They're identical,” he pointed out, gesturing the blanket that he still held onto.
“No, I have no idea which blanket it was. I always just set them both out and you always take whichever one is on the left,” Jakotsu replied offhandedly before it dawned on him why he was asking such a strange question. “Wait a minute. You think the snake might have been meant for you?”
“Yeah actually I do. The chances of it being meant for me are far more likely. Honestly I am not sure why I wasn't able to figure it out sooner. No one here knows of your preferences or of your past. None of them are the right age to have been with you in the orphanage and what's the chances of you running into two of them so quickly?
“I on the other hand, am no stranger to being betrayed or revenge. I have been making enemies everywhere I've gone and it is always possible that one of them just saw the poster. He could get the whole reward to himself if I had died and was just buried on the side of the road,” Bankotsu insisted and Jakotsu couldn't help but agree with the idea. In the short amount of time he had known him, he had already gotten an entire sheriff's office after him and earned himself a wanted poster.
“For now, don't let anyone else know that we think it was meant for me. We are going to keep an eye on them while they think they are safe to try again. It is only a matter of time before they show their hand.”
