Bankotsu was failing in his attempts to fall asleep later that night, far enough away from the wagon that Sesshoumaru wouldn't complain, but close enough still if Jakotsu needed him during the night, when Kagome made her way over and gently shook his shoulder.
"You need to come quickly. Your friend is sweating badly," she informed him, rushing to catch up to him when he took off so fast he almost knocked her over. In the back of the wagon, Bankotsu found him completely drenched and shivering in his wet clothes. Forgetting she was with him, Bankotsu began removing his shirt and wiping him down.
Behind him, Kagome silently decided to give them some privacy and began making her way over to where her husband was sitting beside the fire. Too caught up in what he was doing, Bankotsu didn't notice her departure or Inuyasha's arrival until he started to speak, "Will he be okay? I've never heard of anyone surviving a rattler bite."
Though he realized the last part was more to himself, Bankotsu realized he still didn't know the answer himself. Removing the bandage from the bite, he held up the hand next to his uninjured hand. "He should be fine," he said with a sigh of relief; releasing the breath he did not know he was holding. "There is no swelling so he shouldn't have gotten too much venom.
"And I have only known one to survive a rattler bite. He was bitten just minutes after the rattler had bitten another man. We assumed it ran out of venom," Bankotsu explained as he continued removing the soaked through clothing, making sure to block his naked form from the others.
Reaching into the wagon, Inuyasha grabbed one of the extra blankets and draped it over his lower half to protect his privacy in case anyone walked by. As he watched in silence, Bankotsu finished drying him off and began brushing his tangled hair.
