Chapter Two, Part V - Chance Meeting
"I trust you more than you know, miko. There is no one more capable and trust-worthy to handle my brother than you. You came to his aid, did you not?"
Kagome nodded distractedly as she looked at him and the still-human Inuyasha suspiciously.
"Are you sure he's your brother? I don't see a resemblance anywhere. Is he adopted or something?"
This time, Sesshomaru used all of his control to stop from laughing out loud. Yes, his sister-in-law was a definite delight, her mind and her tongue razor-sharp now. Inuyasha was in for a surprise of a lifetime once he wakes up.
"No, not adopted. We share the same father. We are half-brothers. He's a 'hanyou'. The reason why he's human right now is because of the new moon,"
Kagome looked up to the skies, and as though to support his story, a new moon was indeed looming over them.
She knew what a 'hanyou' was. She even met some herself. Looking at the man now sleeping peacefully under her touch, she wondered what he looked like in his hanyou form. Suddenly, a silver-haired man with a set of cute dog-ears and wearing something red flashed through her mind, making her waver.
"Kagome, daijobu desu ka?"
It was an understatement to say that she was surprised he knew her name. Flabbergasted was more like it.
"How do you know my name? How is it that I feel as though I should know you? What's happening to me? Who are you?"
Sesshomaru heard the panic in her voice and he cursed mentally. This was not for him to do. So he brought the illusion back, and he was wearing his Armani suit again when she looked at him.
"Kojima Sesshomaru, at your service,"
Her jaw dropped at that. He was her boss!
"But how["
Sesshomaru waved a hand at her question, dismissing it entirely.
"How is not the question, Higurashi-san. I'm sure you're familiar with some youkai living peacefully with humans? I am one of those,"
"Right. You never would have built a hospital if you were just after eating humans. Oops! I'm so sorry, sir!"
Kagome clapped a hand to her mouth and she blushed ten shades deeper as she remembered she was talking to her boss. This time, Sesshomaru couldn't hold back the smile.
"Do not worry about it. You have not offended me. Are you ready to move? I think it would be best if we returned to the hospital,"
She shook her head vehemently.
"No! I mean, not yet, sir. I haven't finished healing him yet,"
"But I think["
Kagome looked at him, the plea there in her eyes.
"Please. I won't rest easy until I know he's fine. It doesn't feel... right to have someone else treat him,"
Sesshomaru nodded his consent.
"How is it he knows my name? That was the first thing he said when he opened his eyes before. Did you tell him, sir?"
Sesshomaru was silent.
"There's this... 'something'. I can't put my finger on it. But somehow I know... I knew him from a long time ago, didn't I?"
"That you do, Higurashi-san,"
"I don't remember how. But I'll definitely try,"
Kagome vowed as she moved one hand from his chest to stroke his long, black hair. His wounds were almost healed now, and he stopped bleeding a while ago. Still, she didn't want to leave him...
Kagome looked at her employer. His golden eyes were inscrutable behind his glasses. She took a deep breath.
"Sir, would you do me a favor?"
Sesshomaru only inclined his head, urging her to continue.
"Will you tell him when he wakes up? Will you tell him I'll be waiting to meet him again?"
Now Sesshomaru crouched next to Inuyasha as he made her a promise.
"That this Sesshomaru will, Kagome. He's been waiting for a long time to meet you, too,"
'More like an eternity. No one's going to deny him now that he's found you again,'
That was Sesshomaru's thought as he carried his sleeping brother and escorted Kagome back to her car.
"You're welcome to rest tomorrow,"
"Thank you, sir, but I think I'll go to work. Just in case,"
She said to her boss as she looked at his brother meaningfully. Then she was off.
Sesshomaru laid Inuyasha on his tail and flew home.
Tomorrow's going to be interesting.
