Balancing Letters

Chapter 9: Balancing Letters

Khadriel was in his massive study when the letter came through. It was delivered right to his mighty table. As all letters in heaven, it was on a sheet of pure light, not your average parchment by far.

Coming out of his deep thoughts, the angel read…

‘My lord Khadriel,

Whispers of doom have reached my ears; visions of the end becoming clearer. It has come to my knowledge through various sources that dark thinks have once again begun to stir.
It all begins with the sacred jewel…’

Khadriel read on, a strange hope brewing within with every word as he reached the end…

‘my lord, I plan to take these matters seriously, I have begun sending scouting parties all across our world in order to find the cause of all these appearances, if all is true then our times my be grim in deed. I await your words on this matter.

Respectfully

Montaque

(Praetor of the Gaugan forces, earth)’

Khadriel put the divine parchment down, just what he needed; more variables in his already complex equation. Suddenly a white orb lit up before his eyes. Appearing out of thin air, it signaled the arrival of a guest…

“Let him in.”

Spoke Khadriel, allowing his slight fatigue to show.

Looking up he saw Abrasiel enter the mighty chambers.

“I see you have received the letter my lord.”

Khadriel nodded slowly.

“So much is happening, my inner self tiers. But fortunately all goes to plan. Soon we can destroy this abomination.”

Abrasiel only looked at the angel long and hard…

“You have authority do you not? Go Abrasiel, inform Gaugan to detain and execute the crossovers. I shall go and find the three Vaqutar’s we sent to the other world.”

Abrasiel did not move…

“Why…why my lord do you want that world annihilated.”

Khadriel looked back at the angel with a controlled disgust.

“The late god was a fool, the experiment failed. If we try any more the balance of the universal energies will be upset, then who knows what will happen. If the rest of heaven finds out that such an atrocity was sanctioned by god, well they will be all to eager to try it again. But if they believe that this was an act of the shadow, then they wont touch it and it will be destroyed.”

Abrasiel took his leave, as he left he spoke his parting words…

“Odd, my lord…in the end you are a lot like you predecessor; Galadriel to had such a lust for the alleged greater good.”…

**

Valcos allowed the gentle sounds of the garden to soothe his temples. There was a great distance to cover between understanding and acceptance, which came first one rarely knew. For Valcos, it was usually understanding…

Arias walked up to him as he leaned on the small gazebo railing.

“Even though the problem wasn’t as serious back then, heaven could already see the seeds of decadence that had sewn themselves in the hearts of men. They saw your world as tainted and corrupt. So they created this one, since it had the barrier the light was sure that it would remain free from the malice of the shadow. Sadly it failed as well, even here souls continue to go to hell and heaven, it seems that everywhere we go balance follows us. Do you know why some souls still went to hell Valcos?”

Valcos looked to the palm trees, the dying rays of the sun dancing through the massive leaves.

“I do not.”

Arias smiled,

“One day you will Valcos, one day you will.”

Valcos smirked at the angel’s words, his eyes catching a flash of red as they moved about the small meadow.

Sitting under a palm, Kagome rested on Inuyasha's shoulder, waves of reality crashing on them both. The more she thought about it the less the idea seemed to bother her. Holding true to the angel’s words to remember herself, she found that she felt just fine…but the idea of her world being just about two hundred years old still shocked her.

“By the way, I never asked, how did you get here Valcos?”

Valcos snapped out of his reflection on hearing the question.

“Huh wha…oh, that was pure luck, Angel stones have immense magical powers, so I thought that’s where I should start.”

Arias nodded slowly.

“Good guess…yes, an angel stone is the only way for a mortal to cross over. But as we always see, answers are the mother to our questions. This spawns a new problem.”

“How did those two cross over?” Valcos said knowingly.

“I can help you with the girl, I just happen to know why she can cross.”

Valcos almost burst out laughing.

“It seems we are in luck for I’ve figured out exactly how the dog demon can cross over.”

Arias chuckled.

“Very well, you first.”

“I spent a few weeks in their company some time ago, here I discovered that the demon was pinned to the time tree, I mean the tree, for over fifty years.”

Arias raised an eyebrow.

“Some of the tree’s energies must have been infused into the demon.”

“That makes sense” Said Arias rubbing his chin.

“Now, how does the girl do it?”

Valcos crossed his arms and faced the angel…almost in challenge.

“Hmm, it’s quite simple, she’s the perfect resurrection of a soul from the other world.”

Valcos’ eyes went wide,

“She’s a what, you mea-”

“Yes Valcos, ever since I saw her soul arrive here studied it from afar, to be exact, she’s the perfect resurrection of an old priestess by the name of Kikiyo.”

The name flashed in Valcos’ mind over and over, the fog lifting; everything now came into sharp focus.

“And lo we find the final piece.” He said almost smiling.

Arias looked at him expectantly…

“Ever since I immersed my self in the history of the jewel I wondered; how could the jewel return to this time when it had departed with Kikiyo’s soul. Now it makes sense.”

Arias nodded. “Yes it was the only way for it to come here, I myself learned a great deal about the jewel when it came here in hiding.”

All the talk in the background was of no interest to Kagome; she just wanted to sit there with Inuyasha forever, the crickets chirping, the wind in the trees.

“Kagome.”

Inuyasha’s voice was low and soft, it made Kagome fell oddly warm inside.

“Yes Inuyasha.” She replied smiling warmly,

“Lets have dinner.”

“Wha?”

Kagome pushed off his shoulder.

“Ramen sounds really good right now…”

**

“But you don’t know what’s in the jewel do you.”

Valcos enjoyed the feeling of childish power the knowledge gave him.

“Of course I do, there are the souls of Midoriko and the demons that fought her.”

“Yes” Valcos smiled “ But what you don’t know it that there is also the energies of a va-”

“INUYAHSA SIT BOY!!”

BOOM

It was like the earth had broken in two. Looking out into the garden the two men saw the fairly terrifying frame of Kagome towering over what could only be described as a hole in the ground.

Slowly, a beaten Inuyasha was seen crawling his way out of the hole.

“K-Kagome, w-why…”

“Hmpf, you never get the idea of a mood do you!!!”

With that she stormed over to the gazebo.

“Now, what were you guys talking about.”

The two were silent, they only stared…her disciplined calm was enough to make Valcos want to go back to Sesshomaru’s mother’s castle.

“Me, um we w- oooooooooo look at the moon, its so shiny.”

It was clear Valcos was drawing blanks, the moon itself was a day of the new, thus it was only a sliver…far from shiny.

“Come on Valcos.”

Valcos looked up to the angel…

“You were in the middle of something.”

“Wha- oh ya.”

So Valcos went on to narrate to Arias all his exploits of how he came to know of the existence of the unseen one, which was in fact a Vaqutar or as it was called in the human tongue a doom guard.

“You see there was a hell spawn’s energies in the jewel. It all makes sense, when Kikiyo died the jewel came to this world…and here it should have stayed. But when Kagome brought it back…well it shouldn’t have come here. But because it did…it set off a chain of events leading to there being Vaqutars all over the land.”

Kagome was confused, Arias was grim,

“So you think that this jewel caused Vaqutars to manifest themselves on you world.”

Valcos shook his head.

“No, I believe in something much worse. Galadriel told us that around, well now about nine moons ago, a power came to this land that awoke Incarnius from his slumber. Also Kagome told me that she came to this world…around nine moons ago. I think that when the jewel came here…if it had the power to awaken the balrog…I think it ripped a hole in the barrier.”

Arias’ eyes went wide.

“It makes perfect sense. Yes, the jewels natural path was to this world, it should not have gone back. And when it did, well the hell spawn’s energies combined with the power of the jewel…yes that must have done the job, ripped a hole in the barrier and allowed the shadow to spew forth…but it must have needed more magical energies.”

Kagome felt rather stupid, what with all eyes trained on her? Even Inuyasha…

“What?”

“It is nothing my lady, just that you must have some immense magical powers within you.”

Kagome smiled weakly, she felt like the old man was sizing her up before he turned back to Valcos.

“Now Valcos, how far have they gone?”

Valcos clenched his Jaw at the question.

“Globurz matures, brus annfurtun, agh brusub ranfurtun” was all he said.

Slowly, as if he’d been hit by a train, Arias sat down on one of the garden chairs.

“Good lord.”

Kagome and Inuyasha looked to both of them for answers…

“What the fuck does that mean!!”

“Easy Inuyasha, that is the Language of hell, it is not to be taken lightly. Translated into our tongue it reads ‘foolish mortals, we have the sun storm and soon we shall have the moon storm.”

The words hit Kagome like a bus…

“Wait doesn’t that mean that they can break the barrier?”

Arias shook his head…a slight feeling of consolation within them.

“No my lady, only when one has both crystals can one destroy the barrier. But…how could Gaugan not know. IT’S THE SUN STORM!”

“My lord calm yourself!”

Kagome jumped at Valcos’ words, never had she heard him speak with such authority…or with such respect.

Valcos decided to change the subject, there were still questions that could help shed light on their current problem.”

“Please my lord, tell me about the jewel’s powers, it shall help in understanding the gravity of this situation better.”

Arias shakily got back to his feet. Gazing blankly at Kagome he began

“Well yes, I studied the jewel but I can only tell you so much.”

Kagome felt the fatigue of knowledge bearing down on her; there was just so much going on, first her world, her home had turned out to be a two hundred and thirty year old experiment, now somehow she’d caused a rip in the only barrier protecting them from hell…it was fair to say she felt rather under the weather.

Valcos looked on expectantly,

“My lord, all I know of the jewel is that it can greatly increase the power of demons and even humans. But I still am unsure as to how it does so.”

“Its simple Valcos, the jewel-by virtue of the souls within it-has the power to greatly increase the soul power of a creature, thus the creature can exhibit feats of unmatched speed and strength.”

Valcos’ eyebrows were somewhere in his hair they were so high. That was the most obvious explanation he had ever heard…but it had eluded him.

“Don’t worry Valcos” Kagome rubbed his shoulders as she spoke; his youthful disappointment verging on heartbreak was almost comical.

“Sometimes the most obvious signs are the ones we miss,” she added in an undertone all the while giving Inuyasha the most piercing look on the planet.

“There is more Valcos, the Jewel not only adds to the power of the soul but it can mimic or shall we say mirror one completely.”

Valcos snapped out of his over emphasized depression and began paying close attention.

“The jewel has the ability to, well as long as the human shell is intact, it has the ability to mirror a soul, thus in some twisted way, has the ability to sustain life. But only temporarily.”

“Wha!!”

Realization flooded Kagome’s senses.

“Inuyasha did you hear that, the jewel can sustain life only temporarily.”

“Ya…so what.”

Sometimes, just sometimes, Inuyasha displayed such degrees of thickness it would put a block of wood to shame.

“Inuyasha, Kohaku’s life!!! The only reason he’s alive is because of the jewel shard.”

Now it was Valcos and Arias’ turn to be at sea. Seeing their blank expressions Kagome spared them an explanation. She told them all she knew of the dim fate of Sango’s little brother…of how he killed his father, his companions and nearly his sister. All the while Valcos’ brow seemed to furrow further…his concentration deepening.

After Kagome was done though, it was Arias who spoke first, his tone grim…

“This is bad, though the jewel can mimic a soul, as I said before it can only do so for so long. I fear that if he is forced to live with the shard in his back…well his body will slowly learn to exist without a soul…the jewel will keep him alive, but his existence would be that of a breathing shell…empty.”

Kagome let out an audible gasp. “Oh no!! W-what can we do?”

“There is no there choice, you must kill the boy.”

“What are you saying ya old bag!! We can’t kill Kohaku!!”

“Calm your self demon, if your heart truly wants what is best for the boy you shall end his shadow life this very instant!”

Inuyasha was near shaking; there was no way he was going to allow…

“Shut up!! This is someone’s brother we’re talking about!!”

The argument became more and more heated; everyone’s exasperation that had built up over the day was now spewing out. Many a time Kagome found herself having to restrain Inuyasha from doing something rash…

“There is another way.”

Valcos had been silent throughout the senseless banter yet his quiet words put all but the insects to silence.

“Arias…there is another way is there not?”

Valcos was more telling the angel than asking him; he seemed entranced, almost unreal. Arias seemed to go pale, as much as any angel could at least.

“Yes, there is a way…do you really wish to know…”

Valcos smiled sardonically…

“I’m quite sure I know the way, I only need assurance that it shall work.”

“T-there is a chance…y-yes it just might work. But Valcos…alone, are you sure.”

But Valcos wasn’t listening; he was already on his way as he headed towards the entrance to the massive mansion and the exit beyond.

“Thank you for all the wisdom you have imparted Arias, sadly my burdens have just grown a hundred fold…I must leave for my world immediately.”

‘But a way to cleanse my self of my sins has appeared…’

Bidding the angel an uneasy good bye (especially Inuyasha) Kagome and the hanyo went off following an almost hypnotized Valcos…looks like he had some more letters to write. Tomorrow was going to be a long day.

**

The sun was shining, the birds singing…huh, life always picked the beautiful days to bear ill news. A little more than a week ago he had received a letter from Vash about a hole in the great barrier, on sending word to the heavens and getting no reply he did as he had assured his master and sent out only small scouting parties across the world to find the alleged Vaqutars. No reply from them till date.

Looking out into the French countryside from the lawn of his modest chateau, Montaque felt a small nagging within him; something was definitely brewing on the horizon. Riding on the cool breeze of the morning, the sound of frantic steps reached his ears.

Turning, Montaque saw his manservant Pierre dashing towards him across the lawn.

“Master, master!!!”

The man seemed possessed; Montaque braced himself…sensing ill news was a skill. Montaque had been hailed by all as a prodigy, his tactical and diplomatic mind was unrivaled across the land making him the youngest ever praetor of Gaugan at only thirty one years of age, the youngest before him being aged fifty three.

Pierre finally made it to his master, completely out of breath he handed an envelope to him.

Almost cautiously, Montaque opened the envelope bearing the Gaugan seal. He read…

‘my lord

On this day, five before the new moon, the fortress of Baranor was besieged by the shadow. We do not know from where they came but their numbers overwhelmed us.
I fear they will have the sun storm soon. I hope this message reaches you by the quickest.

The dark captain’s words to us were simple before the bloodbath

Nutu batarub ghash
Agh niinu kulub grish

Which I believe means the skies shall rain fire and the water shall be as blood.

I see that burning sky coming toward our fragile world. I fear the shadow has returned and it comes to take us

always

Yours faithfully

Harold the mighty

(High Marshall, Baranor)’

Montaque felt the blood drain from his body,

‘Baranor has fallen, how can this be, t-the scouts, it was all quiet!!’

“M-master”

Pierre was waiting on his word, orders had to be dispatched immediately no doubt.

“Pierre, g-go…send word to all the marshals, tell them to be on full alert and battle ready…ready to await my orders.”

Before Pierre could say another word Montaque was off,

“I shall be in my study, go now there is not a moment to waste.”

Montaque now broke into a run, how soon could they act, how much time did they have. Baranor was a mighty fortress on the slave island of Madagascar; isolated from the world by the sea…how much time did they have before the shadow moved again…

Bursting into his study he immediately began drafting a letter, one of many. The first was of course, headed straight for the light.

Hours past as he wrote letter after letter, so many things had to be judged, weighed against each other…their allies, their potential strength against their current strength. He had to lay down a blanket defense between Baranor and Barithil…Barithil being the fortress of the moon storm.

There was a knock on the door, on hearing his master’s acknowledgment Pierre entered the room,

“My lord, two letters have come for you. One is marked ‘secret’, the other one is from the light.”

Montaque looked puzzled,

“Uhh, leave the secret one on my table, what’s the other one about.”

Pierre clumsily opened the envelope and read the contents of the letter a little to hurriedly,

“Something about an arrest my lord.”

What was Lord Khadriel doing sending him arrest orders like that…now of all times!!

“Ah, put my seal on it and send it out to the nearest man we have.”

Bowing, the manservant left the room. Inside, Montaque read the contents of the letter. It was from Vash; written in an extreme hurry…something about a new world…when he was done Montaque almost fell of his chair

“My god.”

**

Miles away more than half a day later, in a distant eastern land a man sat quietly in a public inn. Suddenly out of nowhere a bird appeared carrying a rolled up parchment. Tearing the seal of the praetor of Gaugan he read its contents…

‘Detain the balance…execute it and all its companions…

…Japan…’

These last two chapters, and the next look to clear up most of the big twists, after that its smooth sailing action all the way. Hope everyone’s cool!!!

NOW BACK TO SHAMELESS PLAGERISM:

There is a huge-BUT UNINTENDED-lord of the rings vibe coming from this story. The whole ‘the jewel is not meant to be here’ shit I mean sheesh!! But it gets worse…much worse

-the language of hell is actually the language of mordor!! They actually have dictionaries and shit on the net FUCK!!! the passage in the second letter appeared once before as well…so I guess ive translated all the big parts OK.

-Barithil and Baranor are elvish (they have dictionaries too!!) literally meaning dwelling moon and dwelling sun …cool huh.

I know there are a lot of new faces in this story but please, I think it adds to the depth, if you want them off just say so…and I promise I will do absolutely nothing!! ITS MY STORY…not to many people read it any way…for those who do…THANK YOU

Ginny

Ahh yes, the spaghetti monster such fond memories of death…

Hope you’re enjoying the story…I know raindrops was far more direct but this is an experiment so…well hope you are enjoying yourself…I like long conversations between characters and what…like I said I’m odd that way.

Looks like we’ve lost Sapphire blade for good there…I guess I bored her off, which is why I must thank you even more for sticking it out…

Sometimes I feel im writing for a very very small fan base…but that’s all I’ll ever need ya…

But sometimes I think I need cheap ways to attract the masses, you know like a rap star does.

So I decided that ill put LEMONS in my summary and end the story with the line…

‘He fucked her gently’ hahahahahahahha im a genius

Sorry for that, I’ve not been physically or mentally well over the past few days. Until next time…
