Chap 10. Troublesome Inuyasha
Inuyasha, still on top of Kagome, turned his head to see who was speaking. He frowned, and sat up, still straddling Kagome’s hips. The girl blushed a bright shade of red; she and Inuyasha had always been extremely close, and because of her being so touchy-feely, Inuyasha felt free to play those types of games with her.
However, Sesshoumaru wasn’t that type of person, and never understood why people had the need to touch and embrace for no reason other than being lovers. Although, Koga had already told him that Kagome wasn’t the type of woman to give herself to just any man, and that she hadn’t even had any type of intimacy with him when they dated. Sesshoumaru would never understand why she allowed a man to touch her in such a manner that only a husband or a lover should be allowed, and even in that case, only away from prying eyes.
“Inuyasha, please get off me.” Inuyasha was still glaring at his brother for interrupting his moment with Kagome when her words registered in his mind; he turned his head to look at her with a questioning stare.
“Ignore him Kagome, he’s a cold bastard. I’m just greeting my friend.”
“I know, Inuyasha, but he is my boss now as well as my host, and I owe him some respect. He probably doesn’t understand why I would let someone, who is not my husband; engage in this sort of behaviour with me.” Inuyasha grunted, but did as she asked of him. As they continued talking, he sent glares to his brother to let him know of his disapproval of being interrupted.
“Keh! Make no notice of what he says. That poodle doesn’t know the meaning of warmth and fun.” Sesshoumaru growled, but was interrupted by Shoja and Toga.
“So, you’re home my son! Glad to see you!” Shoja held his younger grandson in a tight embrace, inwardly grinning at the situation he had caught the three youngsters in. He loved a bit of fun, and Inuyasha was going to provide some. Was it his imagination, or was Sesshoumaru being over responsive where Kagome was concerned.
Now that he thought about it, the girl had some resemblance to Rin, Sesshoumaru’s ward back in Sengoku Jidai. Shoja frowned, could it be that she was stirring up some deep emotions from his older grandson? He had witnessed Sesshoumaru’s struggles to forget the ona when she died of old age. Was Kagome bringing the same emotions to the surface in Sesshoumaru that Rin had? Could Sesshoumaru be having fatherly feelings towards Kagome? He shrugged his shoulders; he didn’t care as long as he had loving feelings for the girl that would cause him to bond with the girl.

Toga and Shoja had been interrogating Inuyasha all through the delicious meal Jaken had prepared for the occasion. Inuyasha, oddly enough, had patiently answered every single question.
Kagome looked at him with a sparkle in her eyes; he had matured. He was her Inuyasha and he would always be, but he had gained composure all those years they had been apart. Thinking on it, she decided his job might have something to do with the change.
He sure had entered the youkai society through the main door, and judging by what he was explaining, he was there to stay. Kagome felt so proud of him! Gone was the unsure young pup she met in college, with all his brashness. Before her, she had an attractive man; he was not mysterious and unreachable like Sesshoumaru, but sweet and caring. He exuded male pride and reliability. She felt so proud of him; he had finally obtained what he had wanted all his long life. She brought her hands to her chest, full of pride and admiration for her friend and sighed. Sesshoumaru noticed and frowned. Was she secretly in love with his half brother? He didn’t like it, and what he liked even less was the fact that he actually cared about what she felt for Inuyasha.
Sesshoumaru grabbed the napkin he had been squeezing through the evening meal off his lap, and wiped his mouth. He then excused himself and smoothly stood up, leaving the room, his movement followed by four pairs of widened eyes. Soon after the door closed behind Sesshoumaru, a snort was heard and three pair of still wide eyes focused on the source of the noise.
“Looks like some things never change.” Was the only explanation to the amused noise previously heard, and before his father scowled at him Inuyasha defended himself promptly. “What!? You know I’m right! Fluffy doesn’t like people who he thinks are beneath him!”
Someone cleared their throat and three pair of eyes focused, this time, on a blushing Kagome. “Err… I don’t think he sees us as what you think. He is just a serious man, a lonely one at that, but he is not bad. He is just an honourable person, err… demon.” Kagome raised her eyes from her lap and saw the strange look Inuyasha was giving her, and she blushed an even deeper shade of crimson, adopting a defensive stance. “What! So I think he is not a bad man. What is so wrong about it?”
“I can’t believe you, Kagome!” He began to pace back and forth with a scowl on his face. “I feel betrayed. After all that I told you about youkai society, the way they treated me. Sesshoumaru sided by them. And now…” He stopped his movement and gave Kagome the saddest look and whispered “How could you?”
Kagome embraced him, holding him tight to her chest. “Oh, Inuyasha, I’m not betraying you. I could never. You are my best friend, but I can’t help it. Sesshoumaru has treated me well; he has welcomed me in his house and has given me a wonderful job. Inuyasha, he didn’t know me. He just trusted your father and grandfather, and he has proved he is a wonderful boss.” Kagome released him from her embrace and gave him a pleading look. “Please, Inuyasha, don’t make this hard on me. Don’t make me choose.”
Inuyahsa sighed. He just couldn’t resist Kagome’s pleadings; he just loved her so much. She was his little Kagome, like the sister he never had. Perhaps because he never saw her in a sexual way they always had this touchy relationship no one else but Koga understood. “OK Kagome, I won’t make you chose between Sesshoumaru and me, but I do it for you, because I care about you.” Kagome gave him one of her brightest smiles. “Thanks Inuyasha, this means a lot to me.” She added teasingly “And I appreciate it even more because it comes from you”. He turned around, his back to her and stubbornly said, “Keh!” Kagome could only laugh. There, in front of her, was her Inuyasha, back just for her, just like when they met. Some old habits never die.
Kagome looped her slim arm around Inuyasha’s more muscular limb, successfully catching his attention, his soft, amber eyes never leaving hers. “Would you like to go to the movies, and maybe have some ice cream afterwards? Just like we used to do.” He put his hand on hers and gave a nod. “We could call Koga and Ayame.” They both exited the room, leaving two silent witnesses.
Shoja leaned back on his chair and took another drink of his wine, a soft smile showing on his face. “What do you find so amusing, father?” The older man focused his smiling gaze on his eldest son. “Haven’t you noticed?” The other man shook his head. “Well, I will say no more as I have no proof of my thoughts, but I believe we are going to have a real soap opera playing in our house.” With no further words on the subject, Shoja stood and left the room, wishing his son a pleasant night.
Toga remained in the room a few more minutes. Sometimes, he didn’t understand his father; if he didn’t know better, he would be certain he was adopted.

Kagome woke up to sunny and warm day. It was the perfect day for a swim and maybe some sunbathing and a good book. She put her bikini on with a shirt over it, and grabbed her towel and a book before heading downstairs to have a light breakfast.
A note on the counter told her that Toga and Shoja had gone to a meeting and silence told her no one else was up. It didn’t surprise her coming from Inuyasha, but Sesshoumaru was an early bird. She shrugged the thought away and put a glass of juice and a cup of coffee on a tray and went outside.
-----------
Sesshoumaru came out of the dojo. His clothes were in disarray after spending a whole night doing exercises. His shirt was slightly opened, revealing a well chiselled chest splattered with a gleam of sweat. He ran his fingers through his hair; it was dishevelled and slightly knotted. He needed a shower; and perhaps he would go swimming afterwards.
Kagome had eaten her breakfast and was reading under an umbrella. She enjoyed being outside, but she didn’t like sunbathing for too long; her skin was too sensitive and burned easily, no matter how much sun protection she used. Soon, she was sound asleep with the book opened in the page she was reading and resting on her chest.
She never noticed a figure approaching, watching her amusedly as he dropped the towel next to her or the splash of a body entering the water. She did notice, however, the cold water dripping off of Sesshoumaru’s body, still towering above her, and onto her own. She opened her eyes to reveal golden ones looking down at her with concern, the contrast between the cold dripping water on her heated skin made her hiss. Without noticing, the sun had moved, and the umbrella wasn’t protecting her anymore, exposing her to the sun’s rays and the increasing heat. She jumped out of the chair, but her blood pressure had seemingly dropped, and she went limp, only saved from hitting the floor by the strong arms of Sesshoumaru.
“Sesshoumaru? I don’t feel very well.”
“You were exposed to the sun too long. Can you walk? You need to get in the water to cool down.” The girl signalled a no with a light movement of her head. “Don’t worry. Hold onto me; I’ll help you.” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing; was it concern coming from him? Nah! She was probably suffering from the effects of sunstroke and was imagining things. “Have I gotten sunstroke?” “Not yet, but almost. Don’t worry; I’ll get in the water with you until you recover.” She thanked him with a weak smile and rested her head on the crook of his neck, closing her eyes as he held her in his arms as if she weighed no more than a feather and slowly got in the swimming pool.
She was so fragile, but at the same time, so strong! He acted as if he didn’t care or notice, but she didn’t act as if she feared him, and he respected her for that. Everyone else, ningen or youkai feared him with the exception of his family, even Naraku did, but she always treated him with respect; she always had nice words and a warm smile for him. She never seemed to care for his wealth, his physique, or the cold way in which he always treated her. No matter what he did, she never stopped being herself with him.
She hissed when her warm body entered the water and held onto him tighter. He couldn’t help but notice how soft she was, and how her natural smell made his inu purr in contentment. He couldn’t help but notice how her nipples pebbled due to the temperature contrast, and he wanted to see them pebble again due to the pleasure he would give her. Without noticing his mind was planning ahead of him, or rather his inu, he already felt attached to the girl in his arms.
“I am going to release your legs so we can get some water on your front and neck, OK?” She nodded and held his neck tighter, bringing herself even closer to him. He repressed a moan when her breasts caressed his chest, and he struggled to think of something other than the enticing woman he had in his arms.
He gathered some water in his cupped hand, and while keeping her hair away from her neck he rubbed it gently allowing the water to cool her heated neck. She moaned and rubbed her forehead on his neck; she was beginning to recover her senses, and she wasn’t feeling so dizzy.
She was becoming aware of the male that was holding her, the way he was rubbing her neck, his masculine smell, the closeness, oh god! She was really close to him, so close, in fact, that their chests were touching. Oh my! Her hardened breasts were caressing his chest, and she was enjoying it! One of the hands she had around his neck slid down to his chest and began to push, trying to put some distance between them.
Sesshoumaru looked down to see the perfect performance of a red and mature tomato with the shape of Kagome. Well, she sure was feeling better; however, her useless attempt to put some distance between them made him chuckle. She wasn’t expecting the soft pressure she was putting on his chest to be forceful enough to separate his chest from hers, was she? Seeing as the tomato now had eyes as big as plates, he decided he had amused himself enough for the rest of the morning at the cost of the lady in his arms, and seeing as she was feeling much better, he lifted her, earning a squeal, and sat her on the pool’s edge and out of the water.
“Go inside, woman. Have a shower; drink a lot of water, and rest for a while. You will feel better.”
Kagome kept looking at Sesshoumaru as if he had tied his hair in pigtails and just nodded. With another chuckle, Sesshoumaru got out of the water and left.

That afternoon, Shoja and Toga called Inuyasha, Kagome, and Sesshoumaru into the room. They had some news.
“So, what is so important that couldn’t wait?” Inuyasha inquired as he dropped himself unceremoniously into an empty chair.
Shoja and Toga exchanged knowing looks. Toga decided to be the first one to speak.
“We had a meeting with the Council of Lords this morning, as you all know.” He waited until they all nodded. “It has been decided that the Council will oppose Naraku, thus helping ningen being as they are his target.”
“How will that happen? Will youkai reveal themselves? Aren’t you afraid of the reaction?” Kagome asked, concern evident in her voice; she knew from past experiences with Koga and Inuyasha the importance of keeping their secret from ningen.
“We will act in the shadows, just like we always have. Of course, there are some chosen ningen families who know about us and have helped us through the centuries. It is those families and the ningen that know about us and have accepted us that the Council is willing to reward in a way.” Toga explained calmly.
Three pair of eyes focused on him, evidently waiting for the explanation that was bound to come. “It is those humans I told you about that will be welcome into our society. Inuyasha was the first not full demon allowed in, but that only served to open the door for some chosen humans, only the ones we can trust. And you, my girl, are one of the chosen ones.” Kagome blushed and brought her hands to her chest “Me?” Shoja intervened, handing her a fancy card “This is an invitation to a party next Friday to honour those humans my son was telling you about, and you, my dear, are invited.” “But I don’t belong to any of the families that have helped you through the time you mentioned.” This time Inuyasha intervened, holding her hand to his chest. “You have done more than you think. You have helped me fit in.” “But I did nothing. This is not right, I don’t deserve this reward.” Kagome protested. This time Sesshoumaru spoke, pinning her with his golden gaze. “You did nothing you say? Inuyasha matured and learned to accept himself for what he is thanks to you. This acceptance gained him the acceptance of the youkai society and, believe me, they don’t give that freely. You gained my grandfather’s and my father’s trust, and I wouldn’t say they do that for just anybody. Furthermore, you have gained my respect.”
Kagome’s chest swelled with pride, it was an honour to be invited to such an assembly and be accepted into such a selective group of people, but she valued even more the words spoken by Sesshoumaru. She was sure he never praised people he didn’t see worthy. His words reached her heart, and she valued them more than any invitation to any youkai event no matter how unique it was.
With her heart attempting to block the path of air to her lungs and a string of tears in her eyes, she gave a silent nod and strangled thanks.
Inuyasha hit the table with the palm of his hands. “You’ll be my partner, right Kagome?” As if awaking from a fairytale dream, Kagome looked at the men around her. Each one of them with a different look on his face. Shoja was already picturing the snotty part of youkai society watching them arrive with a hanyou and a ningen and how they would react. Toga felt proud of his son and his pack daughter. Sesshoumaru gave her an odd look, soon replaced by his usual ‘you bother me’ look, and Inuyasha was back in kindergarten.
She sighed, she had nothing to wear. Yessss!!! She had nothing to wear!! Her female practical mind was set on ‘go shopping’ mode, and she was, in her mind, rubbing her hands together and doing the victory dance.
Now, read and enjoy!! And don't forget to drop some lines as you leave...
