Chapter 10 Lines are drawn


“ Wake up monk!” Inuyasha nudged the said monk in question in the foot. “What are you doing here Inuyasha?” Sango now also awake made to grab for her katana. “Wench if I were you I wouldn’t do that! I am not feeling very FRIENDLY towards you two right at this moment.” Taken aback by his tone Miroku grabbed a hold of her hand and turned to Inuyasha. “What do you want Inuyasha?” He almost flinched seeing the anger in the monk’s eyes when he said this. “I am assuming that the stupid mangy wolf is in my brother’s castle, has he sent any word on Kagome?” Sango unable to keep quiet any longer glared at the hanyou as she vented her rage. “ No but it doesn’t matter because even if he had we would not tell you! You lost all rights Kagome when you made your disgusting proposition. I will make sure you never go near my spirit sister again, even if it means my own LIFE!”


In the flash of an eye he had her off the ground with a claw wrapped around her neck before either of them could react. Rage over took the young monk when he saw his loves face turn red, and watched as she gasped for air. “Inuyasha let her go!!” Taking a step towards them he stopped at the look in his former friends eyes. “Know this Kagome is mine no matter who would say different! I will not let another have her and you can not keep me from her!” Spitting on the ground he tossed Sango against the tree behind him before leaping back into the trees. Quickly Miroku rushed to where she lay not moving. “ Sango! Sango! He gently slapped her face to wake her. “ I swear that he will pay for the pain he has caused.” Picking her up he gently probed her for any broken bones and was relieved when he didn’t find any. Bringing her face to his he gently kissed her as if afraid she would break. Slowly her eyelids fluttered open, and he released the breath he had been holding. “Thank Kami you are alright! I thought I lost you!” Slowly he let her sit up. “Miroku I fear we will have to kill him to keep him away from her.” He said nothing just watched her as she made her way back to the fire. In his eyes though was an unmistakable rage when he saw how she favored her right side.

Kagome, having tucked in Rin and Shippo made her way back downstairs to the study. When the familiar voice called out for her to enter she did so. After closing the door she settled herself in the chair once again across from him. This youkai was an enigma to her, she had no idea what to expect from him except for his icy stares. After the meeting he had allowed to eat and then quietly commanded her to put the children to bed. Before she could rise he advised her to meet him in his study when she was through they had more to discuss. Sitting there now she remembered how even though his tone had been quiet it brooked no argument. Now he looked up and met her gaze. “ Miko tomorrow will begin Rin’s lessons and your training. After she eats you are to instruct her on etiquette, numbers, and letters. She is allowed a small respite after lunch for one hour, once that is over she is to be instructed in the arts. Once that is accomplished we shall take dinner, after that prepare yourself to train for three hours. This will be your new schedule, you are dismissed.” / Dismissed?! What does he mean talking to me like that?! I will not have it! / Quietly the voice that seemed to have taken up residence in her mind replied before she could even speak. He can speak however he wants! You are worthless! You could not possibly hope that you are his equal! Shut up girl and do as you’re told. Learn from him to become stronger but do not think that you may exist other than to die.

What was she thinking? He watched as a flicker crossed her eyes and for a brief moment he had thought she would show some of her fire again, but the moment passed, as she said nothing and quietly left his study. “Lord Sesshomaru! My Lord! Your brother is demanding entry!” The little imp was running as fast as his squat legs could take him. Suddenly he stopped short when he had run into something hard. “ Calm your self Jaken! I know why he is here.” Walking past the imp he made his way to his inner courtyard where Lord Kotaru held his brother at bay with his sword. “ What business have you here Inuyasha?” He asked almost lazily.“ You bastard! I am here to fight you! I am also here to take Kagome away with me! She will be my mate, you can not interfere!” Walking down the stairs to where his brother stood he stopped short of him by 3 feet. “If that is the case then we will pose the question to the miko ourselves. If she chooses not to go you WILL leave and you will not enter my lands again. Is that understood dear brother?” He sneered the last enjoying the look of rage as it crossed his half-brother’s face. “ Lord Kotaru would you be so kind as to return inside and summon the miko to me? Once you have done so please remain inside as I would have no harm come to my wards.”

Kotaru let go of the hanyou and gracefully ascended the stairs to find the miko. Running into Jaken he asked where she might be, motioning to him to follow Jaken led the way to the back gardens. When she stood at Jaken’s entrance he was again taken aback at how hauntingly beautiful she was. Seemingly ignoring him she ran down the stairs and out the door he had just come in.

Stopping when she reached the door Kagome pushed her chin up and put her mask in place before entering the courtyard. Looking out into the night she recognized Inuyasha’s familiar form as she descended to where he and Lord Sesshomaru were casting icy glances at each other. “ What do you want Inuyasha?” He was taken aback at the chill in her words and the ice in her gaze. / Is this really Kagome? I know she’s mad but she better get over it. She better think twice before saying no to me I will not let her escape me! /

Noticing the brief moment on his brothers face Sesshomaru said nothing, instead he took a few steps back so that the two may face each other as they spoke. “ What do you mean what do I want? I came here for you wench! Or did you forget that I told you you would be my mate? Or is it that now you are a bitch in heat and you’ll take anyone including my murderous brother?” Suppressing the growl in the back of his throat Sesshomaru watched in fascination as Kagome made her way slowly to where Inuyasha stood. Smiling coldly up at him Kagome swung her hand across his face. *THWACK * Suddenly Inuyasha had her by the throat choking ever so slightly at her airway. Holding up her hand to Sesshomaru she let the icy laughter slip from her throat into his face. “ You think you scare me Inuyasha? You don’t. I will not go anywhere with you. I am here of my own accord and I intend to stay.” Her eyes narrowed at him as she grasped his hand and continued, “ You know I thought if I saw you this soon it would reduce me to tears, but I guess not. I am now glad for this numbness that is encroaching upon my very soul. I will never be yours do you hear me? It will never happen! Go back to your whore who reeks of soil and death and leave me in peace!” The last was said so vehemently it made him flinch. Losing what little control he had Inuyasha felt his claws tighten around her graceful neck as he told her his answer to her last words. “ Very well Bitch, if I will not have you then I will make it so no one will!” Watching as his other claw swept towards her heart Kagome let her arms fall to her sides and her eyes sweep shut, accepting her death. She was surprised when she felt his grip released and she was standing on her own again.


“ Listen well BROTHER, I have already told you it would be her choice not yours. So while she is here she is in my protection, you would do well to leave now if you value your life. I would kill you but that would only serve to grant you peace. This I will not do.” Flinging Inuyasha towards the forest outside the gates he ordered them barred. Turning back to the girl he saw confusion in her eyes. “Why did you not let him kill me?” Striding so that he was in front of her he replied in an icy calm voice, “ I told you, you are here for Rin and if I had let him do away with you then I would have to be bothered finding someone to fill your position.” She knew that wasn’t all but he would not let his guard down long enough for her to read the flash of emotion she had seen in his eyes when he had first turned towards her. All that was forgotten however when she felt the blackness that had been inching into her vision take hold. Sesshomaru reached out and caught her when she fell forward, slumped over in his arm he leaned her back to gaze upon her face.


Why had it angered him to see his brother abuse her? This Sesshomaru felt no emotions for ningen! So caught up was he in his thoughts he didn’t notice the frown that took over his features when he noticed the fresh bruising around her throat. “My Lord?” He turned at the sound of Kotaru’s voice, suddenly wishing he was not in close proximity to the girl he held he thrust her into Kotaru’s arms. “ See that she is taken to her chambers. I have work to attend to.” Turning towards the stairs he leapt to the entrance and strode purposefully towards his study never realizing that his visage still held the frown and his retainers were staring at him in surprise.

Gazing at the features of the woman in his arms Kotaru made his way to her rooms. Opening the door he strode inside and laid her gently upon her bed so as not to wake her. He was overcome with the sudden swiftness of his rage when he saw the purple marring her throat and the scratches that were bleeding. He lowered his head and licked the blood away. Bringing his face to hers he placed a soft kiss on her lips. He watched her face as she mumbled in her unconsciousness. It was decided; he would woo her and have her. He would give her a total of one month to succumb to his charms, if that didn’t work then he would take her. Either way she would be his.


Kouga returned to where he had left Kagome’s friends wondering just how to explain that she wasn’t going to be joining them any time soon. When he made his way to the camp he took note of how stiff the young monk was. “What happened?” Turning to face Kouga Miroku didn’t say anything for a moment. The wolf lord could tell he was trying not to loose his temper. Looking over he noticed the taijiya sleeping, but looking like she was in pain. “Inuyasha found us. I do believe as unsavory as it sounds I may have to kill my old friend.” Kouga noticed the flash of rage in his eyes and was taken aback. “ What did he do monk that has you so riled?” Miroku breathed deeply before continuing, “ he not only declared Kagome his and his only he made the mistake of hurting Sango. The woman I love is more important to me than anything by hurting Kagome he hurt her, now he has directly attacked her. I will not forgive him.” Kouga just shook his head, “ that is not all my friend, Kagome has decided to remain with Lord Sesshomaru. She will not be going back with you, however she did say she would meet up with you in a few months. There is something else you should know…but I wouldn’t tell your woman if I were you.” Looking at the monk he gauged him to see if he understood, satisfied he continued, “ Kagome has stated she will fight Naraku still I can’t help shake the feeling that she does not wish to survive that battle. Monk something about her has changed, it’s as if her eyes are ice as well as her heart.” Miroku placed his hand upon the wolfs shoulder, “ do not worry my friend, I am sure she will be fine. Now let us turn in as tomorrow will be a long day indeed.” Staring at Sango as he said this he moved to lie beside her. The last thought to cross Kouga’s mind was the same as the monk’s last one. Inuyasha was going to pay.
