The Better Man

Chapter Ten


Kagome screamed as Yusuke picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. "Put me down now." She should have known better than to pick on him. The play fighting had took a turn for the worse and she was getting the bad end. Laughter filled the air as she started beating on his back.

"Might wanna stop, Keiko will tell you I'm not above spanking."

"You touch me and I'll kick your ass." She blushed when a hand landed hard on her ass. "Ouch, you jerk."

"Yusuke." Keiko yelled at him along with Kuwabara. "Yurameshi."

"Fine, count yourself lucky." He deposited her on her ass. "I won so we can call it even."

She faked a growl at him, she got up rubbing her sore cheek. He laughed at her flushed face and threw his hands behind his head. He chuckled, "Next time don't step in the ring."

She walked over to stand behind Keiko where it was safe. Which happened to be near the red head but she tried to ignore him. He smiled at her and she gave a small smile back, no need to be rude.

"You have a nice voice." He complemented her.

She wanted to roll her eyes but refrained from doing so, atleast in his face. "Thank you." Please don't let him start coming on to her. She watched his eyes roam over her and returned the favor. Did she look like she would be easy? Being youkia he could probably tell she wasn't a virgin. That didn't mean she was easy though.

He was about to say something when his eyes opened wide. Kurama looked across the yard to see that everyone had sensed it also. His feet took him over to Hiei, Yusuke and Kuwabara joined them. "Something is coming."

"Keiko, you and all the females get inside now."

Kagome didn't have time to speak as her hand was grabbed and she was pulled inside the building with the old woman. Genkai stood in front of all of them as they peered out.

"Whats going on?" Yukina looked out seeing all the men gathering in one spot waiting. Among the usual four, Chu, Touya, and Rinku had come for the food.

"Something is coming, it doesn't feel good." Shizuru took a drag of her cigarette.

Kagome peered over the little woman's shoulders to see. A large blast of light appeared and three more people suddenly stood in the yard. All youkai and univited. Her eyes roamed over the three, two male and one female. Her breath caught when she stared at the woman.

"It's okay Kagome." Keiko tried to reassure the girl, knowing she had to be scared. "Yusuke and the others will handle it."

"I don't think so." The miko watched as the now grown pale woman stepped forward and lifted her mirror. The past rushed back as all men stopped suddenly and a mist formed around their bodies.

"What's happening to them?" Yukina asked.

Kagome placed her hand on the older woman's shoulder, "Can you find me those arrows?"

Genkai looked up at the girl, "Are you sure you know what you are doing?"

"Yes, me and that soulsucker are old friends."

Yusuke tried to move but he was held immobile, his eyes widened when he saw something leaving his body. No one was moving, Rinku suddenly dropped to the ground; eyes vacant. What the was she doing? "What the hell are you doing?"

The woman took a step forward, "You can still talk, I am impressed. Your soul must be strong but it won't save you. Soon I will possess your soul along with all of your friends."

Hiei's eyes widened at the declaration, he tried to move his hand. He wouldn't let that bitch suck out his soul.

"You all possess such strength." She smirked as Touya fell to the ground to land on Rinku. "One by one you shall all fall." Her voice was emotionless as she spoke of their deaths. She turned when she felt a sudden surge of power, it was coming from the building.

Kagome ran out the building bow in hand, her hand unlatched the rosary. It fell to the ground as she notched the arrow. "Kanna." The woman turned to her giving her a clear shot. She released the arrow, it streaked across the yard.
