Grieving
Chapter Nine
Kagome woke up feeling refreshed and invigorated for some reason. She looked around and examined her room once more. It was nice and it was hers. Maybe this was better than working nights at that crowded resteraunt but she had enjoyed her morning activities. Her training had beeen something she had looked forward to. Maybe there was some place here she could go to train. It would help being stuck here seem less dull and boring. She had no friends, nothing to do.
She climbed out of bed and went to the door. She pushed the button she'd seen the woman push from last night. The door slid open, she smiled. The floor was cold on her bare feet. 'Which way do I go? Better yet will I get attacked again?' She walked down the long hall not sure of where she was going.
No one bothered her as she strolled, they stayed clear of her. Which suited her fine she wanted to be alone. She noticed a few females walk inside from doors to the left. It gave her a quick glimpse outside. A garden? Surely he wasn't the type. Curiousity peaked, what the hell. She went in the doors that had closed behind them.
'It's beautiful.' The sun was aiming down lighting the large yard up. It wasn't exactly a garden but a courtyard of some sort. She looked around for several minutes. There were several benches placed around the area, it was a nice setup. What caught her eye was the tree. It reminded her so much of their tree, her feet took her over.
She stared up at the large tree, tears started to stream down her face. Had he ever forgiven her? What had become of him? Had he missed her after she was gone? Could she ever forgive herself? Her hand came up to touch the tree, she wished she could go back. Go back to him.
The wind blew across her face as she let the tears fall. "Inuyasha." Had he stopped loving her, had he died hating her? What was to become of her? What she wouldn't give to have someone to talk to.
"Are you okay?" The old female youkai was standing next to her.
"No, I'm not. I want to go back." She fell to her knees. "I want to see him again. Why did it end this way? Why am I here, I should be with him." Her shoulders began to shake as she let all the pain she'd been holding for almost two years come. Despair filled her knowing it was all her fault. It had been her fault that Kikyo had died, if only she'd been stronger.
"Do you need someone to talk to child?" The old lady sat behind the girl pulling her into her arms stroking her hair while she cried. "Why don't you tell me everything."
Kagome wasn't sure why but she opened up to her. Maybe it was because she kind of reminded her of Kaede. She told the old woman everything from going into the well, meeting Inuyasha, their relationship and even Kikyo. The old lady listened intently asking questions now and then. Laughing at times when it was funny. They payed no attention to those that walked past or those that listenend.
"So what happened?"
"Naraku had most of the jewel, I had the last shard. The final battle took place. I was too weak, he managed to get the last shard from me. As soon as he got it, he turned on Kikyo." More tears came. "He was killing her, so she reached inside his chest grabbing the jewel trying to purify it. She was growing weaker by the second. She yelled at me telling me to shoot an arrow at them."
"So you did."
"Yes." She shook her head violently. "I killed them both. I can still remember the pain on his face. The way he looked at me. I didn't need him to look at me like that, I felt guilty enough. Somewhere along the way we became friends. I killed her."
"How did you get back home?"
"I don't know. I remember him yelling at me for doing it, then there was a loud humming sound and everything suddenly went black. I woke up back home. I tried to go back but the well wouldn't work." Kagome felt better having told someone of the despair clinging to her soul.
"You did what you had to do."
"But I killed her. I'm sure he never forgave me. I lost him." Kagome closed her eyes, the hanyou's face entered her mind. "It was all my fault, if I'd been able to hold onto my shard."
"Shhh, nonsense. Come let me take you to your room and fetch you something to eat."
Kagome let herself be dragged away, not paying attention to those around her. Nor the two youkai that had been listening to every word from the above balcony. She suddenly realized that she was cold and hungry.
Yomi faced Kurama, "Did you know?"
"No, we were only told that she possessed the jewel. Explains a few things, you should be pleased." Kurama smiled. "I doubt you will be challanged again after word gets out about who you share a life bond with."
"Maybe but it worries me."
"Hmph, might I ask if you are feeling anything else resulting from the bond?" Kurama looked him over, he looked tense this morning.
"None of your business."
"So it was a complete bonding? What are you going to do?" Kurama wasn't sure why he felt anger all of a sudden. Sure he wanted a go at the girl. He wanted to know what it would be like to have her under him. Yet if Yomi was having the full effects it meant he would want the girl physically as well.
"I'm going to do nothing but make sure she isn't killed to protect my own life."
"So you aren't going to bed her?"
"No, I know why you ask. You are welcome to her, I have no need for her." Yomi turned and walked away. Had he just given the fox permission to take the girl he wanted himself.
Kurama watched him leave and pondered. He should have been elated at the fact but wasn't. Yomi was a fool to think he'd be able to resist it. So it didn't matter if he gave his permission or not. The fox knew that it would take time for him to win the girl over enough for her to allow him in her bed. It would be a waste of his time, Yomi would claim her before he had chance to even get close. Yet if there was a chance, he'd take it.
Kagome ate the food offered her, feeling a little bit beter. She had been left alone to eat her meal in her room. Guilt still plaqued her to no end. She placed the tray aside when a knock sounded at her door. She got up and walked to it, "Yes."
"It's Kurama, may I come in?"
'Ah fox boy.' Her finger pressed the button allowing him entrance. She smiled at him when he walked in. Her eyes took him in, he was cute. Very attractive, in her opinion. "Did you need something?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to go for a walk?"
Kagome wasn't sure if she should. Why would he want to walk with her. Then again he had hit on her before he even knew who she was. "I guess it would be okay."
"Great, I promise you won't be bothered." He extended his hand hoping she would accept it.
She eyed it wearily, she was about to freak out. Why would he offer her his hand? Okay as long as he didn't offer anything else. She accepted it, placing her small one in his. She felt a small jolt of awareness shoot up her arm and down her spine. 'What the hell was that?'
He started walking leading her out the door into the hall. "Is there anything you'd like to see?"
"Yeah actually I was looking for a place I could maybe train."
"Ah, come."
