Chapter Ten

Sesshoumaru sat motionless in his seat. If her request surprised him, he didn't show it. There was only one conceivable reason for this request. Damn that Inuyasha. Kagome wondered why she hadn't just asked Inuyasha, but the thought of the Inuyasha laughing at her shortcomings was not appealing. Besides, if she could train under Sesshoumaru, in time Inuyasha wouldn't be able to leave her behind. She wondered if Sessh had figured that out too.
At last he spoke, "Why would you have any need of it? It is my duty as well as Inuyasha's to see you safe.". Kagome nodded, "Yes that is true and I know that you can. I would however like to learn. I want to be more useful." There! That should persuade him. She lifted her chin and bit back her smile.
One elegant brow arched. "You are of use." He stated in his quiet way, "You are priestess to the village, healer, lady of the west, and mother of my heirs. " It was clear from his tone that she should have seen this as enough. Kagome of course, did not agree. Standing, she moved over to his side. He watched her come within reach. He knew exactly what she wanted. She wanted to hunt down that half demon. As of he'd allow that.
Kagome hated fighting dirty, but sometimes a woman did what she had too. Turning her saddest puppy eyes at him, she let her lower lip tremble. He hated that look, and she had come to know it. "Please?" She whispered. Sesshoumaru hated the fact that as a male, he had an inherent weakness for her, with a sigh he stood. "Kagome. Stop that." He ordered in a voice that told her he had reached a decision.
Moving back towards the door, he turned to look at her over his shoulder. " I shall train you at dawn after the guard reports to me. In return you will agree to never use that look on me again. Feel free to subject my brother to it as often as you like.". Kagome rushed to him, and hugged herself against his back. He turned in her embrace and tipped her lips up to his. He pressed a searing kiss on her and then held her at arm's length. Staring into her eyes he frowned, "And even after you are trained, you will not go after Naraku."
Her eyes widened. He had found her out. Why did he have to be so smart anyway? And how long had he planned on keeping the news about Naraku from her? She frowned right back, "How did you know?" she asked. No point in denying it. He hmpfed, "I am quite intelligent." Then he left her alone in the library. She wanted to stomp after him and tell him off for being so smug, but then hadn't she gotten her way?
Sesshoumaru found Inuyasha in the war room, scanning through scrolls. "I didn't know you could read." He stated as he strode to the casement. Inuyasha hmpfed at him. Sesshoumaru continued to the adjoining room and Inuyasha trailed after him.
There were several weapons racks here, and he watched as his brother selected a katana. "That's way too small for you." He blurted out. Sessh gave him a cutting glance, "It is not for me Inuyasha. It is for Kagome." Inuyasha straightened at his words, "Huh?" Sesshoumaru flipped the sword easily, yes this was perfect. He re-sheathed it and turned to face his sibling. "For Kagome." he snapped, eyes flashing angrily, "She has asked me to teach her to fight."
Inuyasha looked confused, "Why would she do that?". Sessh growled, "Perhaps because you told her about Naraku. I'm certain she thinks that she will accompany us if she trains. I have, of course said that is not so. Your timing is questionable." Inuyasha stared at the wall, "Should I have lied?" he bit out. Sesshoumaru eyed him for a moment, "No. To lie is beneath us. However, we need not offer information when it is not required. We might have easily resolved this without her knowledge."
Inuyasha sighed. Sessh was right, but he hadn't thought of that. He'd been so used to confiding everything to his friends that he hadn't thought about the results. He was a husband now and possibly even a father, of course she couldn't go. If he had thought about it before opening his mouth he would have realized that. Now she would fight him tooth and claw to get there. That was his fault, but Sessh didn't have to agree to her request.
"You could have said no." he pointed out. His brother was nonplussed, "I could have but I didn't. She asked and I saw fit to agree. She will train." Inuyasha wasn't happy about that. Why hadn't she asked him? " She could have asked me." He grumbled. Sesshoumaru understood that Inuyasha felt more than a little jealous, " I suspect she asked me because I have had proper training in sword techniques. I am also more patient and accustomed to training others." He offered. Inuyasha supposed that made sense. His ruffled feelings soothed a bit, it couldn't hurt. Let her train.
Kagome spent a good portion of the afternoon with Rin. The girl was entirely too clever for her own good. She had hidden Jaken's keys from him and so he was unable to gather her texts for her lessons. Sesshoumaru would not be pleased. Kagome and Rin watched as the little imp ran frantically around the palace searching for the lost keys. "So where'd you put them?" Kagome asked in a bored voice. Rin kept her eyes on Jaken's bouncing form, "Inside his staff." The girl replied in an equally bored tone.
Kagome had hoped that Rin would lighten her mood, and it had helped somewhat. She was still feeling a little angry about her mates not telling her about Naraku right away. To be fair, though there had been a lot going on. Could it have simply slipped them? She didn't think so. They were supposed to tell her things like that! They were bonded for life for crying out loud. Now that Naraku was in the picture once again… life might not be that long. She shook her head to rid herself of such thoughts. She had to the two strongest demons in Japan with her. If anyone was safe it was her.
She avoided the inu brothers for the rest of the day and didn't leave her room for dinner. She stayed in her rooms staring out the window. She didn't want to think bad thoughts but she couldn’t help but wonder what else they had kept from her. She went to bed early without waiting for them. If she spoke to them now, she might say something she would regret, besides they probably wouldn't even notice her not being at dinner.
Her absence however, was felt. Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha could feel her doubt and worry and it created tension between them. Sesshoumaru naturally blamed Inuyasha for letting the truth slip and Inuyasha growled but didn't deny it. Finally with a disgusted grunt he shoved away from the table and stomped up stairs. She might be still be mad but he was sleeping next to her, that was the way it was.
Kagome didn’t even move when he slid into the bed beside her. Maybe she was tired. In his anger he had forgotten to ask his brother about the possibility of pups. With his pure blood, Sessh would know before him. He curled himself around her, drawing her close. Sessh was leaving to do a partial patrol tonight and would be back in time for her lessons. It should be interesting to say the least. With a yawn, he nuzzled into her hair and let himself drift.
