Chapter Eight
Ginta and Hakaku made their way to the den in record time, not wanting the injured girl to get soaked from the rain. The wolves howled smelling them approaching, welcoming them back. "Shut up, you fools or you'll wake her." The small package in his arms stirred but didn't wake. Instead she turned her head and buried into his chest. Other members from the tribe came out to see what all the fuss was about. Comments could be heard, "Look, they brought back a human for dinner." "Wonder if they will share?" "I thought they didn't eat humans anymore."
"Where's Kouga?" Ginta faced the wolf demon that was on watch.
"I'm right here, what the hell did you bring back to eat?" Kouga jumped off the cliff and landed infront of his comrade. He gasped when he saw it was a human. All he could see was long black hair, her face was buried. Had to be female, her scent tickled his nose, yeah definitely female. "Why did you bring a human back, you know I won't eat humans anymore." Kagome's smiling face flashed before his eyes. "Take her back."
"But Kouga, we found her, wounded. We didn't bring her back to eat. On our way back to the den, she was found laying by a tree. We didn't think we should just leave her there after all." Ginta tried to reason with him. "She might get killed if we took her back."
"Like I care, take her back. Unless, you want the other's to have her for dinner." Some growls were heard in the distance. "Do as I say."
Kimi was having a wonderful dream, she was home, lounging out in her bikini soaking up the sun. A loud voice penetrated her dreams, 'But I don't wanna be dinner,' a giggle escaped her lips. "Kimi, the other white meat."
"Sister are you awake?" Ginta nudged the girl with his shoulder. "Wake up."
"Why does everyone keep telling me to wake up? Maybe I just wanna sleep, ever thought of that? Whats a girl gotta do to get some sleep around here?" She snickered until several growls invaded her sleep fogged mind. 'That's right, I'm in the fuedal era, I got taken. Someone's holding me,' She looked up into Ginta's smiling face. "EEEK, let me down," She brought her hand down across his face and he immediately released her. A loud "Umph" was heard as she landed on her backside. "What did you do that for? That's going to leave a mark."
Kouga smirked when human girl slapped his comrade, thats what he gets for bringing her here. "Stop your hollering woman, we aren't deaf!" Her face flew up to face him, glaring daggers at him. His breathe caught in his throat, his mind had to be playing tricks on him. She looked almost like his, Kagome. It wasn't Kagome, he knew, the scent was all wrong and the eyes. "What's your name human?"
"It's Kimi, who the hell are you?" She tried to stand up but fell back down immediately, her ankle had to be swollen.
"Kouga, she's injured we can't send her out besides she looks like," Ginta was interrupted.
"Shut up, I know. Fine, take her in my cave, she can stay till she's healed. Then I want her gone, understand." It wasn't a question but a demand. Kouga turned his back to the girl and walked off but not before he heard a muffled, "Asshole."
They took her to Kouga's cave and set her down onto his furs. Hakaku placed her things beside her and went to fetch her some water. "Here you go, we need to tend to your wounds, sister." Ginta started a fire for the girl. He was distressed to his leader's reaction to the girl. True, she wasn't Lady Kagome, but the girl was just as pretty. She seemed friendly enough but a little strange which was to be understandable. Most humans would have reaked of fear being in the middle of the wolf den but the only smell coming off the girl was anxiety. Not even a hint of fear marred her scent, which was pleasant in itself.
"Who's bed is this anyway?" The cave didn't smell to bad considering where she was. Kimi proceeded to take off her sneakers and soaked socks. Her jeans were pulled up enough so she could inspect her sore ankle. It was swollen almost to the size of an orange, surrounded by bruising.
"You are in Kouga's den," he watched the girl play with her foot.
"You mean that asshole from outside? Why the hell did you put me in here? Are you trying to torture me or something?" She threw her sock smacking him squarely in the face.
"Sorry, but he said to put you here. After all you don't want to be eaten while you are here do you?"
"Eaten, what do you mean. You actually eat people?" A nod confirmed her question. "Oh, this is just peachy. I'm surrounded by man eating.... What type of demon are you anyway?"
"We are of the wolf tribe, my lady."
"Wolves, great. I'm not going to wake up in the middle of the night and find one of you gnawing on my foot am I?"
"No, you will be safe as long as you are stationed here in Kouga's cave. You have his protection until you leave here."
"Ok, let me get this straight as long as I am here, no one will touch me cause they are scared of this Kouga guy." She sighed heavily. "And let me also guess, once I get kicked out of here I'll be on my own." He nodded, "GREAT, YOU MIGHT AS WELL LET THEM EAT ME NOW AND SAVE EM THE TROUBLE OF THE CHASE." She screamed in his face. His mouth gaped open. "If my protection drops once I leave this cave, you can bet your ass some of your fellow wolf members are going follow me and have Kimi-tar-tar for brunch."
He smiled at her, "Don't worry sister, me and Hakaku will take you back to your village."
"Really? Thank you," she threw her arms around him.
"Getting kind of close, aren't you, Ginta?" Kouga came running when he heard the girl shouting. He didn't expect to find her in the arms of his friend. "Don't bother, she won't be staying long."
Kimi turned an icy glare towards him, "Eat me," slipped out of her mouth before she could think.
"Heh, just a minute ago you didnt won't to be eaten and now you're ordering me to. Make up your mind human." Kouga crossed his arms in front of her.
"That's not what I meant. Here's hows this, Kiss my entire white ass, that better?" She stuck her tongue out at him. Yes, it was childish but she didn't care.
He growled and took a step towards her. "Hurry up and tend to your wounds, girl. I wish to retire soon and you will sleep over there on the ground. You aren't fit to share my furs."
"I didn't wanna sleep on them anyways." She turned a brilliant smile his way. "You know what they say, lie with dogs, rise with fleas."
He stormed off into the cold rain needing to cool off. She was nothing like his Kagome, she had been faithful, sweet and caring. That girl in there was a pest and a pain in his ass already. He decided to go for a run to blow off some steam and took off towards the south.
Kimi sighed in relief when he left the cave leaving her alone with just the other demon. She turned to see he had a big grin plastered across his face. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing," footsteps sounded at the entrance. "I believe that is Hakaku with your water. We will leave and stand guard at the front to make sure you have some privacy. Let us know when you are done." He stood as Hakaku deposited what looked to be a clay pot infront of her with some water.
She waited for them to leave then went for her backpack. Deciding on a pair of blue sweat pants and a white t-shirt would be good enough to sleep in. Before taking off her turtle neck she glanced at the door to make sure there weren't any prying eyes. The scratches covered her neck and tops of her shoulders. They weren't too deep, her shirt had helped some against any real damage.
Scrubbing out her scratches making sure to get any dirt out, she didn't think there was an ems' anywhere around if she got an infection. She quickly put on her t-shirt and went to remove her jeans and cursed. Her ankle was too swollen to pull her jeans off without causing serious pain. She didn't have any scissors and she sure the hell wasn't going to try to slice through the jeans with her katana. The last thing needed was a sliced off foot. "Hello."
Ginta rushed in when he heard her shout. "Yes," he stopped short when he saw her sitting there with nothing covering her legs. The only thing covering her woman hood was a flimsy piece of cloth. He felt his body react to the sight of her, she had some nice legs.
"Stop staring and give me a hand here, I can't get these off, gotta cut em." When he made no move toward her, she sighed. "Have you never seen a woman's legs before? I'm going to catch my death of cold here if you don't hurry."
"So-r-ry," he stuttered. He reached her side to see what needed to be done and knelt down infront of her.
"My ankle is too swollen to get them completely off, is there a way you can cut them to slide over?" She pulled the material away from her ankle. "Try using your claws that should work."
Minutes later he was back outside and she was pulling up her sweats, "Note to self, next time we just keep the jeans on." The fire was going out so she added more wood. "Since, I can't sleep on Mr. High and Mighty's fur I'll just have to put my blanket down in that corner there."
An hour into his run Kouga decided to turn back around and head back. He was drenched and he was still pissed off. A high pitched sound made his ears ring. "What the hell?" In the bushes above him, he could sense something watching him but saw nothing. Without thinking he leapt into the thicket, to teach whatever it was a lesson for causing his ears to ring. He landed and grunted when several butterflies, they looked like butterflies, flew out and took to the sky. "Hmph," they were almost as annoying as that girl. 'Kiss her ass. She told me to kiss her ass. As if I'd soil my mouth by placing it anywhere on that human's body. Even if she was cute. Wait did I just say she was cute, okay she wasn't bad too look at if you got past her mouth. Which was not bad either.' He mentally kicked himself for his thoughts. He knew the only reason he found her attractive is because she looked alot like his Kagome. He took off towards his den, so lost in thoughts, he didn't notice he was being followed.
Back at his den, Kouga walked in to find Ginta, sleeping at the entrance. A swift kick in the shin woke the other wolf up. "Kouga, you are back. The girl is asleep already and her wounds have been attended to."
"Good, you can leave now."
"But Kouga, I'd like to stay."
"I said leave, I'm not going to touch her, so stop your whining." Dismissing him, he continued inside and true to his word the girl was curled up in the corner sleeping. He sat down on his furs and studied her. She resembled Kagome in alot of ways but the more he watched her he started to notice a few things. Her nose was slightly smaller than Kagome's had been and her hair had more wave. Plus, her mouth was fuller, the kind of mouth that begged to be kissed.
"It's impolite to stare you know," Kimi rolled over and gave him her back. She'd felt someone staring at her rousing her from sleep.
"I wasn't staring, don't flatter yourself." Kouga layed down on his back trying to ignore the girl. "Go back to sleep."
"That's easy for you to say," she grumbled. "Nothing smells worse than wet dog."
"I'm not a dog, damn you."
Author's note: For those confused at Ginta and Hakaku's behavior, in the series and manga, they respected Kagome and thought of her as one of them. So, I believe it would only be natural for them to show the same respect to someone that reminded them of her. Please read and review.
