The Festival: A Marriage Ceremony

Miroku and Sango showed up late the next morning at the campsite. They smiled when they saw InuYasha and Kagome in a lovers embrace.

“It’s about time.”

Miroku replied.

“Yes, maybe now we won’t hear all their squabbling.”

“I’ll wake Shippo and have him help me fish for this morning’s breakfast while you rouse them up.” He smiled roguishly. Sango grinned.

“How do you suppose I do that, InuYasha isn’t dressed.”

“Neither is Kagome, you know me with my lecherous self.”

Sango pinched him.

“I thought those days were over for you?”

However, they didn’t have to worry about waking them up.

“Kagome, you’ve mated with InuYasha now we can be a real family.”

Shippo was standing over the blushing Kagome who hid her face within InuYasha’s chest. InuYasha held his hand in a fist. Next thing Shippo realized was that InuYasha had him in a head lock giving him a noogie.

“Kagome, make him stop.”

But he was laughing. InuYasha too was in great spirits. He didn’t have the heart to hit the fox upside the head. Kagome giggled as she put her clothes back on. Miroku had already turned the other way and gave Kagome the privacy needed to dress herself while Sango held up a sheet.

“Looks like a she-demon attacked you last night InuYasha.” Miroku said amused. Sango kicked at him.

“What?”

“Don’t embarrass Kagome.”

“It’s alright it’s to be expected.” Kagome said still blushing. She didn’t realize that she had left so many marks on InuYasha. It looked as if a demon truly fought him. InuYasha on the other hand, smiled broadly.

“Well, what are you guys going to do for a wedding?” Sango said looking at Kagome.

“We’ve mated; we belong to each other now. We made vows just like you said.” InuYasha said defensively.

“InuYasha that is a good thing that you two made vows, but a person of the cloth has to bless them. And being that I am a monk, I can bless the vows for you like I did for Sango and myself.”

InuYasha than looked at Kagome, she looked at him. He could see it in her eyes that she wanted to marry him. ‘Anything for her, it’s obviously their way.’

“Ok, I’ll do it. Right now, bless our vows.”

Kagome came running up to InuYasha.

“Wait, wait InuYasha if I marry you my family would like to be there. It’s their right.”

“But Kagome, we want to be at your wedding too.” Shippo cried holding onto her leg.

“Well, maybe, since it’s just the three of them, InuYasha and I can bring them here to this time. Oh, that would be fun.” Kagome clapped her hands together with stars in her eyes.

“Is it possible?” Miroku asked inquisitively.

“If it is I would like to visit your time one day Kagome.” He continued.

“Sure, there is a first time for everything. InuYasha and I will take all of you if it works.” Kagome smiled. She always wondered if they would be able to go through the well, but, she realized they couldn’t go alone.

They made it back to Kaede’s village, when Kaede approached them she looked at the four of them. “What have ye all been up too? There is a glow around Sango and Kagome? Also too, Miroku seems to have been tamed and InuYasha, you are happy truly happy. What has transpired the last weeks since last I saw ye?”

Of coarse Shippo had to tell Kaede everything she’s missed. She smiled and shed some tears for them. She was happy that they found happiness at a dark time. It was good for them to have hope. Who knows how the outcome of this battle would be.

InuYasha and Kagome went through the well in hopes that her family can pass through with them. Kagome was more worried that her mother would flip out to find that her daughter was getting married, let alone had sex without protection. Kagome pinkened at the thought of her mother realizing that Kagome had sex.

They walked up to the house and walked in through the door. Kagome took off her shoes and put on the house slippers.

“Mama, Sota, grandpa we’re home!”

“Hello Kagome, I’m glad your back.” Her mother said embracing her daughter.

“There’s something different about you Kagome, did you…cut your hair while you were there?”

Kagome blushed.

“Hello Ms. Higurashi.” InuYasha said bowing low taking the heat off Kagome.

“Hello, I’m sorry where are my manners, please, make yourself at home InuYasha. Dinner is almost ready. I will set a place for two more. I always make more just in case you pop in Kagome.”

“Mama, I have something to tell you.”

“Ok, tell it over dinner ok. Come help set the table.”

Kagome did as her mother asked. Her mom chit chatted about this and that. Filling Kagome in on what was going on around the house.

“Well, are you guys almost done saving the world? Did you find all the shards of the Sacred Shikon jewel?”

“Well, we know where most of it is at, but we are going to go through a really big battle before we’re done.” InuYasha replied.

“Oh?”

Kagome’s mom stopped putting the food on the table her face worrying for her daughter. She had a bad dream that day. It woke her up crying. They sat to eat and Kagome felt hesitant for a minute before telling her mom why they had come.

“Mom, InuYasha and I want to get married; we would like to bring you, Sota and grandpa to the feudal era to witness it. Kaede, Miroku, Sango and Shippo, well they are all getting things prepared for the festival.”

“No, absolutely not, you have school to finish; you have a career to find. You have responsibilities here that must be completed. I cannot allow you to marry.”

“What! But mom I love InuYasha. I was meant to be with him…I can’t leave him.”

“So, when you’ve retained the jewel and saved the world, are you staying in that era? Are you never going to come home again? I’m not losing you Kagome, I can’t lose you. I cannot be here and never see you again. I lost your father, don’t stay in the past and die here in the present.”

“Mom, I don’t know what is going to happen, but, I can’t leave InuYasha, I was meant to be with him.”

Ms. Higurashi stood up and slammed her hands on the table.

“I said NO! It’s one thing to develop feelings for InuYasha, but you need to come home and finish school. Your life can’t be in two worlds. Your education is suffering now because of it.”

InuYasha then stood up. He made a defiant face.

“She’s not leaving me; we’re committed to each other. I lost her reincarnation, I am not losing Kagome, I love her. I’ve almost died for her several times fighting to protect her. She has come close to harm several times trying to protect me. We can not just stop and her world goes back the way it was. She’s staying with me with or with out your blessing.”

Sparks flew between InuYasha and her mother. Kagome cried. She looked down with slumped shoulders.

“Why can’t my life be in two worlds, this didn’t happen to me for me to go on as if I never met InuYasha? I was chosen for a reason grandpa, tell her, tell her that this is my destiny!”

For the first time her grandfather actually seemed like a very wise temple priest. He took his daughters arm.

“Daughter, for some reason unbeknown to us, our Kagome was chosen for InuYasha. Her ancestor Kikyo died an early death, fate needed to right this wrong and chose Kagome, remember the picture that Kagome brought back to us of Kikyo, that woman looks exactly like Kagome. Too, within our Kagome was the Sacred jewel that was burned with the priestess Kikyo. Kagome wakened the sleeping InuYasha. She’s a priestess born, not made. I am pretty sure that she can travel through the well any time after if they win this battle between good and evil.”

Shaking her head Kagome’s mom was not ready to except her daughter’s fate.

“I… I can’t let her go. No. what if I lose her too? I lost one person I loved already; I can’t lose our only daughter.”

Kagome hugged her mother.

“Mom everything is going to be ok. You’ll see.”

However, InuYasha stood up arms folded in his sleeves. And in a low tone that did not falter he said,

“It doesn’t matter; Kagome is still going to marry me. I don’t mean to be rude or disrespectful, but, she’s not going to raise my daughter here without me. And my child is not going to be a bastard.”

Kagome and her mother gasped.

“What does bastard mean?” Sota asked. Grandpa took the boy to the other room saying that he’ll explain it to him when he got older.

“Kagome? You became a…a woman?”

Kagome looked down embarrassed.

“Mom, it only happened once, last night in fact. It’s impossible that I am pregnant already.”

“Huh, no it’s not. You were still ovulating when you and I…”

Kagome covered his mouth.

“Stop teasing, you just want for her to say yes.”

“I don’t care what she says, I just want for you to be happy that’s why we’re here. But, our child is a quarter demon. I can already smell her within you.”

Kagome blushed as she looked at InuYasha questioningly, she decided to leave the matter alone for now and ask him later. She’s been through too much already. Her mother relented and gave her blessings. Kagome assured her that she will finish school and study to become a priestess, this way; she can stay at the temple shrine. She talked her family into going down the well. They decided to go the next morning so they packed some things and with new excitement Kagome’s mom brought out her wedding Kimono to put on her daughter for the ceremony.

‘my love, our Kagome has grown up so fast, I wish that you were here to see this day however, I pray that you watch over our little girl. Please let our daughter be happy with InuYasha.’

Kagome finally made it to her room with InuYasha behind her. With her back up against the closed door she let out a sigh. Her nerves were stressed. She almost didn’t know what to do.

“Come on Kagome, lets start packing some of your things. We still have to search out Naraku and get rid of him so that our lives will not be disturbed.”

He started rummaging through her things something that he’s always wanted to do. He hated coming to her era. Everything was so loud and busy. He enjoyed the quiet serenity of the woods of feudal Japan. However, there were some things from her time period that he found fascinating. She turned on her radio and he jumped at the noise that came out of it. She began to giggle as she explained to him how it worked. It played one of her favorite songs.

“Oh, I know what I want to do. I want to bring some music for us to dance too. I will bring lots of batteries to make the CD player work in your time.”

InuYasha grunted but Kagome was so happy she couldn’t wait to see the faces of Miroku, Sango and Shippo after seeing how InuYasha reacted. She began rummaging through her CD’s to take with her while InuYasha started to open drawers and look through her clothes.

“InuYasha, are you serious about me being pregnant? I mean we only did it once yesterday, it’s impossible.”

“It’s not impossible Kagome, I am half demon you know. You are with child.” He said while giving some attention to an outfit he’d enjoy seeing her in. He wondered why she didn’t wear some of her clothes more often. He put it in her bag and continued looking through her things.

Kagome sat at the edge of her bed all of a sudden white with fear. Her throat got really dry and she couldn’t breath.

“Kagome what’s wrong?”

“I’m too young to be pregnant, we haven’t even honey mooned or lived by ourselves married. How am I supposed to finish school and get good grades? I’m taking care of our child. I…I… am only sixteen years old!”

InuYasha cradled her in his hold, he looked off worried now for her too. He didn’t think of these things. He just figured that she belonged to him, that she wouldn’t have to go back to school. They would live in the temple shrine with Kaede. Kagome, would train to become priestess of the town since the town already thought she was.

“I’m sorry Kagome; I didn’t mean to hurt you. There’s an herb that Kaede could give you. It will kill the unborn demon babe and you won’t have to worry about it anymore. We can do what you want and try again later at another time.”

Kagome was flabbergasted. She just stared at him, what kind of person did he think her to be. She would never kill an innocent baby. And she loved InuYasha; she couldn’t kill their child no matter what she’d have to lose. She also saw the hurt in his eyes, but he was willing to let her make that decision.

“Sit!”

He could tell that she was pissed. So much more so than any other time his back hurt from her demand.

“I could so hate you right now. What type of person do you think me to be InuYasha? Do you think me that cold hearted?”

Then she began to cry. Stricken InuYasha bowed his ears. He looked like a defeated man.

“No Kagome, I…I…just wanted to help you, you were so upset…”

Kagome could see that he was at a loss for words. She saw too that she was being selfish and realized that she did make it seem like her world was at an end. She didn’t realize what this meant for InuYasha. He’s lost so much and really didn’t have much growing up. His dreams were coming true. She could make her dreams his. She had gotten pretty much everything that she wanted when it concerned him. Granted there was still more, but they can work on that together.

“I’m sorry InuYasha, it was my fault. I led you to believe that I didn’t want to have this baby. It is soon for me, I don’t know where to begin to raise a child let alone yours. I definitely can’t have the baby here in a hospital; I don’t know what it’s going to look like since you’re a dog demon. I don’t want for the doctor to pass out upon delivering my child. It was all a bit much for me to take in since it was my first time making love to you, I didn’t expect to get pregnant the first time.”

“Well, you are not alone Kagome, I will be there, so will Shippo, Sango and Kaede; even Miroku. And we still have the entire wolf tribe to help out. I am pretty sure you can get one of the women there to help while you go to school.”

“No, I will take care of our child. I will get help from you of course, Sango and so on but, that’s it other than my family.”

Kagome gave him a shaky smile. It still scared her to death. It scared her more than any demon she’s ever faced. Her entire life was about to change. She was about to be married and have a child nine months down the road. At least she hoped it was nine months.
