Chapter 10: The Modern World Adventure

Many weeks passed since Kagome and Inuyasha first proclaimed their love and Yasha seemed to like the idea they were in love. One morning, since Naraku had suddenly withdrawn for awhile, Inuyasha decided to take Yasha to Kagome's world and let her see what it was like.

"You'll get to see things we don't have here," he said seriously as they walked down the path to the Bone Eater's Well. "But you have to stay close to me though." "We've been though this before, Papa," she reminded him. "You told me like ten times already." "You can't count that high," he reminded her. "You get to three and think com comes after that." She gave him a blank stare then. "Then what comes after three?" she asked. "How old are you?" he asked. She held up four fingers. "That comes after three," he said. "One day, you'll learn." She sighed nodding.

They reached the well and he lifted her in his arms. "Ready?" he asked. She nodded and they jumped in. They soon found themselves in Kagome's world and Yasha sniffed the air snorting suddenly. "This place smells weird," she said as he lifted her out. "It doesn't smell like home." "This is what happens 500 years later to our world," he explained as they walked outside to the Higurashi house. "Oh, Inuyasha!" Kagome's mom shouted smiling. "It's been awhile since we last saw you." "I've been rather busy," he said lifting Yasha on his shoulders. "This is my daughter Yasha." "So this is the little girl I've heard so much about," Mrs. Higurashi said. "She's a beauty." Yasha dropped her head between Inuyasha's ears embarrassed.

"Kagome should be home any moment," the woman said as they walked inside. "Souta's here though." "Who's Souta?" Yasha asked. "Kagome's little brother," Inuyasha said seriously. Grandpa walked in the room frowning. "Inuyasha, what brings you here all of a sudden?" he asked. "Showing my daughter around," Inuyasha said putting her down and sitting on the couch. "Well, a youngster," Grandpa said seriously examinining Yasha up and down. "You never told me you werea father." "Yes he did, Dad," Mrs. Higurashi said. "He mentioned it a few times. This is the first time he's brought her over." Yasha gulped at the new faces and hid her face in Inuyasha's kimono. "Looks like she's a bit shy," she said smiling. "I have something she might like." She handed Yasha a cookie. "Uh oh!" Inuyasha chuckled. "You're about to be her instant best friend in a minute." Yasha took the cookie and sniffed it grinning. "What do you say?" he asked. "Thank you," she said sitting in his lap.

Souta walked downstairs grinning. "Inuyasha, you're here!" he shouted happily. "Hey, sport," Inuyasha said hugging him. "Who's this?" Souta asked looking at Yasha. "You remember I told you I'm a father?" Inuyasha asked. "This is my little girl right here." Yasha looked at him and smiled bashfully burying her head in his chest. "What's your name?" Souta asked. "Tell him your name," Inuyasha said. "Yasha," she said quietly. "My name's Souta," he said. "Wanna play video games with me?" "What's a video game?" Yasha asked in confusion. "Come upstairs and I'll show you," he said grabbing her hand and pulling her off. Kagome walked in the house and saw Inuyasha sitting on the couch. "Do I have to go back now?" she whined. "Nope," he said. "Just here to show Yasha around." "Yasha's here?" she asked in confusion. "Your brother took her upstairs to play video games," he said. "Oh," she said.

Yasha studied the picture box with moving people on it in confusion. She tapped on the glass frowning suddenly. "How do those people get out?" she asked. Souta chuckled. "They won't get out," he said. "They're supposed to be in there. It's called a television." "Television?" she asked and studied it again. "Watch this," he said picking up a controller. "You move this around like this and try to beat up the bad guy. If you make it..." He demonstrated for her and won the game. "Cool!" she said grinning. "I wanna try!" He handed her the controller and she sat down to begin. She won her first game and smiled. "It shows you're a good warrior," he said. She snorted. "I am a warrior," she said seriously. "Wanna see something Papa can't do?" He nodded and she shape shifted into him. "Awesome!" he said happily and she returned to normal. "I can shape shift and turn invisible," she said proudly. "Souta! Yasha! Come downstairs!" Mrs. Higurashi called. The kids ran downstairs then.

"How would you kids like to go out to eat?" she asked. Yasha frowned not sure she understood what the woman meant. "Inuyasha's been out with us," Kagome said. "He knows how to behave luckily." "I heard that," Inuyasha said seriously. He had changed clothes into something more modern, but still had Tetsusaiga with him. "You look funny in those clothes," Yasha said. "Oh, you have to change too," he said lifting her in his arms. "I have some clothes she can wear," Mrs. Higurashi said leading them upstairs. Soon, Yasha had on a lavender baby doll shirt, Capri jeans with butterflies on them, socks, and sneakers. Since she was used to going barefoot all the time, she had problems adjusting to the shoes. Kagome found a purple ribbon for her long white hair and pulled it on before they were ready to go.

Yasha was in shock when she saw the van in the driveway. "What is that thing?" she asked. "It's called a van, young lady," Grandpa said. "Is it like a carriage?" she asked. "Basically," Kagome said. Yasha grinned as they got in. "You got her buckled?" Mrs. Higurashi asked. "If she'd quit bouncing up and down, I could," Inuyasha said. "Stop it, Yasha." She sat still and he got her seatbelt on. At the resturaunt, Inuyasha held Yasha's hand firmly while they were seated. Since it was a buffet, they could get their own food. Inuyasha made Yasha sit down for a minute and sat with her while the others got their food. Once they returned, he stood up to get his and hers. "Stay here with Kagome," he said sternly and walked off. Yasha watched him for a moment before picking up her soda and drinking some. He returned with her plate and his sitting down next to her. "Look at me," he said and put a napkin in her shirt and on her lap. He then handed her the chopsticks and let her eat while he began his own food.

After dinner, Yasha and Souta ran off to the playground in the area and Kagome looked at Inuyasha. "I'm surprised she's been well behaved," she said. "She knows," he said while he was eating some ice cream. "Plus that ice cream gave her a bit of a sugar rush, which means I'll be sleeping well tonight. She'll work it off now and fall asleep later." She chuckled. "Was she like that a little younger?" she asked. He chuckled. "Is that a question?" he asked. "She's always been active no matter what you do. But she knows when to setlle down at times." Meanwhile, Yasha was getting some stares from the kids as they looked at her. She ignored them when a little girl walked to her. "Are those puppy ears?" she asked. Yasha nodded. "I'm half dog demon and half human," she said. "Cool!" a little boy said excitedly. Souta grinned. "Nou gou got friends in this world," he said happily. She grinned suddenly. Inuyasha walked to the playground and sat down watching the kids. Yasha was playing on the slide and loving every minute of it. She laughed every time she slid down. "Honey, be careful," Inuyasha called. "I am, Papa," she said running to the ladder again. "Hey Yasha," Souta said. "Come play in the ball pit with me!" She ran to him and they jumped in laughing.

On the ride home, Inuyasha noticed Yasha had finally mellowed out some. He slid his fingers on her cheek causing her to look at him. "Rest your head in my lap," he said. She nodded and did so. She rubbed her eyes and yawned suddenly. "Someone's sleepy," Kagome said smiling. Yasha just looked at her frowning. "I think she had too much fun," he chuckled. "It done wore her out." Yasha let out another yawn and was soon asleep. Back at the shrine, Inuyasha lifted Yasha in his arms and looked at Kagome. "You two can spend the night and let her sleep," she suggested. He nodded. "That might be a good idea," he said. "I'll go with you in the morning," she said. He smiled. "I like that idea," he whispered brushing his lips on hers in a gentle kiss. "I love you." "I love you too," she whispered as they walked upstairs.

Inuyasha walked in the spare room and put their clothes on the chair near the bed. He removed Yasha's shoes and socks as she lay on the bed sucking her thumb asleep. "Hey," he said quietly shaking her awake. "Let me take you to the bathroom before you fall asleep too much." She nodded and he carried her inside unbuttoning her jeans and waited for her to finish. Then he flushed the toliet for her and pulled her clothes back on before they walked back in their bedroom. He unbuttoned his shirt and pulled it off before removing his belt and leaned the sword against the wall near his bed. Then he turned off the light and got in beside her. She snuggled against him falling asleep.

The next morning after breakfast, Yasha, Inuyasha, and Kagome headed back to the fuedal era and Yasha ran to Shippo telling him what she did. But little did they know that Naraku was planning his next attack. But he didn't realize it would be his last.
