ch 10 - Will the Dreams End?

Chapter Ten – Will the Dreams ever End? (aka Dreams broke the Camels Back)

“You do realize that there is absolutely no way this can be true right? I told you before, Naraku is a hanyou who offered his body to a horde of demon’s when he was a human.” Sesshoumaru stated calmly, looking closely at his brother and his brother’s woman. Wait, brother? How did that slip in there?

Hours as sped past as Kagome and Inuyasha had talked about her dream and it seemed an eternity before they had come down to the study to speak with Sesshoumaru. Rin lay curled against Sesshoumaru’s lap. She had fallen asleep some time during the third or fourth retelling of the dream. Shippo for some odd reason had made himself at home on Kagome’s shoulder, while Kagome herself was leaning against Inuyasha’s chest.

“Why can’t it be true? How else do you explain that scent? I know that scent, Sesshoumaru-sama. My father’s car reeked of his blood when they found it, and my uncle’s scent was never actually pleasant to start with. It’s a hard scent to forget.” Kagome’s eyes were pleading with Sesshoumaru to listen to her.

“Alright then, never mind the fact that this is quite nearly impossible, how do you explain that you did not recognize the scent of your father’s blood on your uncle? He lived with you Kagome-san.”

She bit her lip so hard at this question that it bled, but she didn’t pay much attention to that. Her answer came slowly, as though she were carefully choosing her words. “Because, my lord, my uncle always kept his scent disguised. When he moved in, he made it sort of a law that everyone disguise their scent.”

Sesshoumaru frowned at this. “This does not make sense. I would understand if it were outside your home to hide from other youkai, but why did you have to mask yourselves at all times?”

Kagome seemed to have been expecting this question, because her answer spilled from her lips in a rush, as though to answer before she lost the ability. “Because that way no one would be able to smell his scent on me. No one would be suspicious.” Inuyasha’s arms tightened around her, understanding her statement immediately as it matched with her actions. It explained her timid ness, her fear.

Surprisingly, it was Sesshoumaru who needed to have this statement clarified. “What do you mean, Lady Kagome?” Leave it to him to revert to top-level manners after an answer like that.

Kagome stared at him. “Do I really need to say it? Fine. He beat me. You already know that though. He molested me.” Her breath caught in her throat, and she hissed, “He raped me.”

For a moment, Sesshoumaru’s mask slipped, but then quickly it slid into place again. “Okay, so that would explain about the scent, but Kagome, how can you explain the rest?”

Kagome sighed. “I don’t know, Sesshoumaru-sama. All I know is that it’s the truth; I can feel that in my heart. Everything is screaming at me that this is truth.” Her voice was so pleading.

Finally, after five hours of arguing the case, Sesshoumaru nodded his head. “If you feel this strongly about it Kagome, then there must be a reason. I will concede, and will begin to look into the matter of how this could have occurred.”

Instead of looking relieved as they had expected, Kagome’s eyes suddenly snapped wide open and she sat up straight so quickly that the dozing kit toppled from her shoulder. Inuyasha grabbed her arms and Sesshoumaru simply arched his eyebrows.

“My family! Oh dear Lord.”

Inuyasha knew exactly what she was thinking, and held her tighter to keep her from jumping to her feet. “He’s went this long without touching a hair on their heads, why would he now? He doesn’t know that you had that dream, so there’s no reason for him to do anything to reciprocate.”

Sesshoumaru was almost staring at him. “I would never have believed it. You’re speaking common sense instead of rushing off with that temper of yours half cocked and some hair brained scheme.”

Inuyasha growled, but made no comment in turn. So, this is how to get him to use his head. I’ll have to remember this. Where Kagome is concerned Inuyasha might actually be a brain cell above stupid.

Sesshoumaru ignored the look he was receiving from the mutt and called for a servant to bring them something to eat. Shippo seemed to reawaken completely at the mention of food, and Kagome couldn’t help but smile at the sudden attentiveness in the small kit. She reached over and ruffled his ears, then began to run her claws through his fur almost absently.

Not a moment after the servant had left, he reappeared with a couple others, carrying in the food trays. Kagome scooted away from the others as Shippo turned his full attention to the food in front of him. She stood, straightening her kimono.

“Where are you going, Kagome? I know you haven’t eaten anything since this morning.” Inuyasha said, frowning up at her.

She smiled back in what she hoped was a reassuring manner. “I’m just going to go lay down. I can wait to eat, but I really need some decent rest.” To her relief he nodded understandingly and she was allowed to leave without further question.

Shippo and Rin took some of the food and went to a corner of the room, giggling as they ate and trying hard not to disturb the two male youkai who were staring at each other, but pretending the other wasn’t there. Finally, Sesshoumaru broke the silence that had stretched until it was tighter than a rubber band. “You do realize that she had no intention of returning to her bed, don’t you?”

Inuyasha choked the piece of fish he had just put in his mouth. “What are you talking about?”

Sesshoumaru sighed. Okay, I take it back. He’s in the high end of the stupidity cells for not realizing this. “How it is that we have the same sire I will never understand Inuyasha.”

Inuyasha jumped to his feet and had Sesshoumaru’s robes wrapped around his fist in an instant. Sesshoumaru just looked at him coldly while Rin and Shippo gawked. “I said what are you talking about!”

Sesshoumaru brought his hand to Inuyasha’s and pried his claws out of the cloth. “You are truly a baka. She didn’t go to bed; she went to go check on her family.” Inuyasha’s eyes went wide and he dropped to the floor in shock. The next second, he had leapt to his feet and was out the balcony door. Sesshoumaru co’t h’t help but roll his eyes this time. He hated to follow the mutt’s example, but he leapt from the balcony as well, chasing after his hotheaded hanyou half brother. Couldn’t have him getting killed, after all. Rin liked him too much, and Sesshoumaru was certain if anything happened to Inuyasha or Kagome Rin would whine for weeks. Not to mention the kit that seemed to have attached himself to Kagome.

Stop fooling yourself, Sesshoumaru. You’re going after him to make sure he doesn’t get killed because you would miss him. Don’t be ridiculous. I have no reason to miss him. He’s an ungrateful hanyou who doesn’t care for our royal blood and has no common sense. Who – Who is your brother. Half brother. He is still your brother nonetheless, he is of your blood, your father’s blood, and you care for him, whether you admit it to yourself or not. The realization that he was arguing with himself nearly made him stop. Only knowing that his presence might be required to get Inuyasha and the girl out of trouble kept him running at full speed.

He dashed through the woods, easily following their scent, but opting to ignore it and take the shortest path possible as he dashed after them. In his mind he was calling both of them every name he had ever called Inuyasha. He easily jumped over the edge of the well and plunged down into it. As soon as his feet touched the bottom he knew something was wrong. ke wke was heavy in the air, along with the sounds of roaring flames and crackling timbers.
“Kagome, get back!” He saw Inuyasha grab the girl and haul her roughly back as she made a desperate attempt to get into the burning house.

She didn’t seem to hear him. She struggled wildly in his grasp, screaming out her family’s names. They could all smell it. Even as Kagome struggled against Inuyasha’s body, both males knew she could smell it as well. Burning flend dnd death. Finally, Kagome’s body gave way and she turned, burying her face against his chest as the flames exploded out the windows and in almost one second the entire building came crashing to the ground.

Kagome collapsed. That was it. She knew there was no hope now. There had been none, not even when she arrived, but she had tried. When Inuyasha had arrived he found her fighting her way into the house, even though the odor of death was already permeating the air. He had just managed to pull her from the flames when Sesshoumaru suddenly appeared.

Kagome slid to the ground, staring at the burning rubble in front of her. At first, all she could feel was pain and guilt. She should have been here to protect them. If she had still been here this wouldn’t have happened. Then a new emotion began to sink in, one that she hadn’t felt since they had pronounced her father dead. Anger, and with that anger came a hatred so deep it felt as though it consumed her very being.

A low growl was heard over the sirens in the distant and the continued roar of flames. The two dog demons looked at each other, thinking it had come from each other; then they both realized it was Kagome who growled. A dark purple aura was surrounding her body and Inuyasha gazed at her uneasily, kneeling beside her.

He knew this pain. He knew how it hurt and then the anger and resentment could set in. Slowly he eased his hands onto her shoulders and leaned his lips next to her ear. It was almost as though something was blocking his actions for she responded to neither touch nor sound.

Sesshoumaru blanched. The sirens were getting closer and it would not due for them to be found here like this. “Inuyasha, take her and get through the well; I will follow.” Inuyasha nodded and for once didn’t argue his brother’s command as he scooped Kagome into his arms and hurried across the ground, leaping down the well once more.

When they reached the othere ofe of the well, Inuyasha carried her a few yards before setting her back down. This time he knelt in front of her, pulling her closer as his hands rubbing warm soothing circles on her back. “It’s not your fault.”

Those simple words had the effect of making Kagome jerk and the purple aura disappeared quite quickly. For a moment Kagome seemed to be battling with herself, swallowing hard before she would look up into his eyes. “They’re really gone aren’t they?” He no slo slowly, and everything seemed to drain out of her. The guilt, shame, fear, anger, hatred; it all fled as an empty void came to take its place.
She looked up into Inuyasha’s amber eyes and shook her head slowly; then forced herself to stand. The world tilted slightly, then righted itself. The sky above was dark, and rain clouds gathered overhead. She didn’t know what to say, what to do. It all seemed pointless. Why had this happened? To punish her? Make her come home to her only remaining family? No. She would never call that man family. Not after what she knew, what he had done.

Inuyasha watched his chosen one with worry. Her eyes were cold and blank, as though this last lost was too much for her to deal with, and, Inuyasha reflected, it probably was. So far she had lost her father, had an uncle move in that abused her, had her innocent taken away, had to go to a betrothed she probably didn’t remember, and then, on top of all that, she lost the last three people that she had known since forever. He wasn’t sure, but something told him it would be the loss of her little brother that hurt her the most. At the moment, he was almost glad that she couldn’t feel anything, but he knew the wait for the pain to hit would only make the pain that much worse when it finally did hit.

She followed him soundlessly back to the castle, but once they got there, she did not return to her rooms. Instead she went to garden and climbed up into one of the tallest trees there. She sat in the very top boughs, swaying back and forth in the wind and just staring out into the night sky. She didn’t move, not even when the clouds broke and a bone freezing rain began to pour down.

And up above two white haired demon’s exchanged looks. Both knowing, and both worried.

Two and a half weeks had passed. Two and a half weeks of waking up in the morning and going to breakfast, forcing down a couple of biof fof food before excusing herself. Two and a half weeks of the looks this provoked, even from the children. Two and a half weeks of playing with Rin and Shippo while pretending to smile and laugh. Two and a half weeks of escaping right before the noon meal and not reappearing until night. Two and a half weeks of lying in her bed and staring unseeingly at the ceiling of her canopy before one or two hours of sleep would catch up with her. The most was three.

The pdaysdays had taken a very obvious toll on her, and Inuyasha grew more and more anxious about her behavior with each day. Her face was pale, dark circles underlining her eyes. Her cheeks were almost sunken, as the little weight she had regained living with them had quickly vanished again.

Kagome sighed as she rolled over for the nineteenth night in a row, staring at the canopy and curtains that surrounded her bed. The moon rode high in the sky as she tossed and turned, seeking a comfortable position on the bed.

(Nonconsensual sexual scene ahead, if you don’t want to see it, skip ahead past the italics)

It was dark outside, the moon and stars hidden behind thick masses of cloud. Kagome sat on the windowsill of her room, her legs dangling in open space. She leaned her head back against the window, smiling to herself. She missed her papa, but sometimes on nights like this she could see him as clearly as if he had been standing in front of her or holding her. She closed her eyes, mbermbering how good it felt to be held by a father, cradled so protectively.

Someone grabbed her from behind by the hair and hauled her back into the room. Kagome whimpered and struggled against them until a hand landed across her face, nearly knocking her unconscious with the sheer force of the blow. She closed her eyes against the lights that were blinking before them then slowly reopened them. She should have kept them closed.

Yukio stood in front of her, a nearly sadistic smile on his face. Kagome wanted nothing more than to cry out in fear, but she had learned long ago that making any sound only made the beatings worse. That wasn’t what frightened her however. She had become used to the pain of his hands hitting her flesh. What frightened her was that he wasn’t wearing anything. He must have come in while she wasnkinnking of her father and undressed. His clothes were piled in a corner.

Kagome trembled visibly with fear; that made Yukio grin even more widely. “Do you want it, little Kagome? Do you tremble so badly with desire that you have to have it, now?” He pulled her closer, crushing her tiny body against his so that his erection pressed into her belly. She shuddered in fear and revulsion, but he just laughed. “That’s right Kagome, you’re going to be a good whore for Uncle Yukio aren’t you?”

He forced her to her knees and placed the tip of his swollen member next to her mouth. When she didn’t take the initiative he hit her upside the head until she took him into her mouth. She almost gagged and bit him. Yukio was not happy with that. Kagome knew she was in trouble by the way he was glaring and shoved her away. “For that you little bitch you will pay.”

In one swift move he had her on the bed and yanked off the bottom half of her clothing. He held a pillow over hace ace as in the next instant he shoved his hard member into her most secret of places. She screamed into the pillow, clawing desperately at him and trying to get away. It only made things worse though as with each wiggle or attempt to get free he would thrust into her harder, causing her to cry out time and again into the pillow. It hurt so badly.

“Fucking little bitch. Whore and slut. This is what you deserve, you each me bitch, you deserve this!”

Fire suddenly engulfed the room and her uncle’s laughter filled her ears even as he continued thrusting in her tiny body. “You damned bitch. This is your fault. You should have been here, little fucking whore. It’s your fault.”

Kagome awoke to find a tiny ball of orange fluff curled around her right hand, obviously trying to sooth her. Inuyasha sat on her other side, squeezing her hand as well. Kagome latched onto the both of them and cried. Shippo crawled up onto her shoulder and settled in her hair, nuzzling while Inuyasha once more drew Kagome into protectively warm arms.
