Chapter 1- Becoming a mother and taking leave
Anubis walked through the pristine hall to where king Orisis resided. The hall he walked down was silent. No voice rang out to announce his arrive, except his own. “King Orisis I wish to speak with you.” Dead silence was his response. Flinging the door open he walked in. “A conference Orisis,” He said this much more calmly.
“What is it you want, Anubis.” The old king stated. “You have not come to me for a conference for many a moon. What brings you to my dwelling?” His voice was old and wise, like a grandfather’s would be. It cracked as he stated his statement.
“I wish to have leave.” Anubis said.
“Why” was the old kings’ response, “You have duties here Anubis that need to be taken care of? You can not just give them away to anyone.”
“I know my king, but I wish some time in the living.”
“Why Anubis,” was the kings low, cracked response, “You are of the dead Anubis. The living are nothing compared to the dead. Why then do you wish to be among them?”
“I wish to travel, my lord. See life. These walls that keep me confined are full of fowl hatred and damned souls. I wish to know more then what I am subject to every day of my life.”
“Anubis,” came another voice from afar.
Anubis turned to see who had called his name. The figure walked slowly.
The man was tall and slender but lean and muscular. The man walked forward with grace. He was most defiantly a God in all his right.
“Wepwawet.” Anubis’ voice called out through the dark halls.
“Yes Cousin. Now tell me, why are you here?” The tall and slender man questioned.
“I wish a short leave.” Anubis stated as Wepwawet stepped up to stand beside him.
“Hn, You mean a vacation.” The man chuckled as his sarcastic comment hit home.
Anubis huffed. Yes, it was a vacation. He wanted a break. Time and time again he looked upon the dead. Leading them to the gates of paradise and doing it all over again. Day after day is life consisted of that? He wished to see more then death he wanted to see life. He wanted to look upon life and see the beauty that it consisted of.
King Orisis did not like what was being thrown at him. This was something he did not want to deal with. All he wished to do was sleep. It had been over 1000 years since he was last able to do just that. His wife and child where most defiantly not helping a bit either, as they called for him often. He looked to the two cousins. He knew very well if he let Anubis go, Wepwawet would most defiantly want to go as well. This was just his luck. Those two were inseparable. One got something; the other had to have it as well. What a situation he was in. He huffed his frustration. This just was not his day.
Anubis looked up to Orisis. He was hoping that his lord would allow him leave. He needed this. 500 years was how long he had worked. It was time for a break, a long break.
King Orisis had made his decision. Clearing his throat to alert the two, he began, “Anubis, I will allow you leave.”
Anubis was grateful. He knew the minute he came back his duties would most definitely be much more strenuous then before but it was worth it. Now was the hard part though, negotiating how long he was allowed out?
“Thank you my lord.” He said while bowing low. “Now though my king I must ask…”
King Orisis huffed once more. Couldn’t the jackal just leave, he was tiered and ready for a nap, but the buffoon was still standing there in front of him. What was it he wanted now? “Speak your peace Anubis, then leave.” he said.
“How long? My lord.”
How long. How long he was asking. Damn the fowl jackal, he always had to make things harder on him. Rubbing his chin he allowed himself time for thought.
Anubis was getting anxious. What would his lord say, three months, six, or maybe even a year. He was getting ahead of himself. A year would put the underworld at a stalemate. Anubis looked to his lord for the answer. Seeing that his lord was not giving him one he began to become impatient. Clearing his throat he said, “My lord, how long?”
Orisis looked to Anubis. ‘What was it he asked?’ The old king thought. Sleep depravation was not a great thing to go through. Your mind was always wondering, mostly wondering to the thought of sleep, but as it was he could not get any. “Yes, Anubis.” The old kings’ voice cracked as his statement was made.
This was becoming very frustrating. His king wasn’t even focused. “My lord, how long?”
Orisis looked away. ‘That’s right; Anubis wants to take a short leave of his duties.’ Looking back to him he answered “Five human months, Anubis. This will give you enough time, will it not?”
He couldn’t say it was a long break but it was more then enough. “Yes my king. What you have given me is quite enough time.” Anubis bowed low. He stood up straight then pivoted on his heels making his way out of the chamber he stood in.
Wepwawet though still stood there.
Orisis was thankful. Now peace and quite was in order. Looking out he saw Wepwawet. He raised an eyebrow in question before asking. “Yes what is it Wepwawet.”
Wepwawet looked to Orisis. His eyes glistened at the thought that he as well could take a short leave. He may not have been working none-stop for 500 years, like Anubis, but he also wished to have a small break from his duties.
Orisis looked at Wepwawet. The tiredness was becoming overwhelming. He looked to the dog and said, “No”
Disappointment
What could Wepwawet say? Nothing really, he had taken a ‘break’ a hundred years ago or so. ‘Aw well’ he thought ‘it was worth a shot.’
Bowing he too headed out to once more begin his duties.
Finally the king was alone. Slumping in his seat as the doors closed he signed as sleep started to over take him. Unfortunately Ra was not on his side. “Orisis, My love” The high pitched voice rang out through his chamber. Sighing he picked himself up out of his chair before head to ‘His Duties.’
Across the globe.
Kagome stood by the god tree. Looking up into the branchs she saw the one person she had wanted to talk to. Hands on hips she called up to him. “Inuyasha” Her feminine voice sounded.
Inuyasha looked down but did not answer.
“Inuyasha, Come down here.”
Still no response from the half demon came.
Sighing in frustration she once more asked “Inuyasha please, I’m sorry.”
He looked down at her but still did not speak.
Earlier that day he had gone to the future to fetch her. Unfortunately for him he had come at a bad time. He hated when she used the sit command, especially when she was mad.
Looking down upon her, he sighed before jumping out of the tree to land right behind her.
“What,” Was his gruff response?
“Inuyasha, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be so hard on you. I was just having a bad day and when you came I unfortunately let it all out on you.” She said sweetly as she looked at the ground. She felt terrible for sitting him so many times. At the time she was so mad and in turn she had done something she had come to regret.
Flash back
She had just returned from school and found out that the school had called. Naturally curious she asked what they wanted. Her mother turned to her and was crying. She most definitely did not expect that. Grabbing her mother, she led her to the couch where they would be able to talk. Her mother turned sad eyes to her daughter before saying, “Kagome this school year is over for you. The school will no long have you failing. You’ve been taken out. You’re going to have to retake the whole school year over again.” She had been shock. Nodding her head to her mother she excused herself before heading up to her room. Jumping onto her bed she began to cry. That’s when the half demon showed up and decided to bring her back. That did not sit well with her. She glared at him as he grabbed her arm. She was yanked down the stairs and out of the house. He had been talking about something but she didn’t care at that moment. Glaring at his back she had hopped that the saying ‘If stares could kill,’ would work. Unfortunately it was not the case. Dragging her out side she dug her feet into the ground before saying “SIT!!!” Inuyasha face planted hard into the ground. She walked in front of him. Pulling himself out of the dirt he looked up at her with a glare that could compare to Sesshoumaru’s. She only glared back. “How dare you,” she said. He looked at her stunned but said nothing. “How dare you,” she said again. “How dare me, Kagome. I was only trying to bring you back and here you are screaming at me. I think it should be the other way around, wench.” He yelled at her as he picked him self off the ground before pinning her with a glare that could kill. “Inuyasha,” she had said softly. “What bitch,” he had replied. “SIT.SIT.SIT.SIT.SIT.SIT.SIT.SIT.SIT!” He had hit the ground hard. She left him there and headed back into the house. When he finally got back up he limped over to the well. Looking back he glared at the house and cussed under his breath. Jumping in, he did not come back.
Two days later and she had finally decided to make her appearance. Heading to the village she had learned that Inuyasha had been sulking the whole time, and was probably in the god tree. Kagome felt terrible and decided to go talk to him. So no here she was.
End flash back
“I’m sorry Inuyasha, will you forgive me,” She said.
“Hn” was his response before turning away from her and heading back to the village. He looked back at her before saying, “You coming or not?”
She was glad he wasn’t mad at her any more but she still felt bad for what she did. Trotting up beside him they made their way back to the village.
Shippo ran as fast as his legs could carry him. He was so happy now that Kagome was back that he couldn’t contain himself.
Kagome saw Shippo coming. She stopped and crouched low. She opened her arms out wide to except Shippo into a hug.
Flinging himself into her arms he hugged her. He nuzzled his face next to her neck.
Inuyasha growled at the kit and in turn Shippo growled back at the half demon.
Kagome stood from her crouching position to glare at the half demon. Inuyasha turned to her and pointed at the kit will saying, “Kagome do you have any idea what he was doing.”
“Yes,” She commented, “He was hugging me.”
Inuyasha huffed. “He was doing no such thing, Wench.”
“Then what was he doing Inuyasha?” She asked sort of curious to what he would say next.
“He was sent marking you, that little brat.”
“Inuyasha”
“What”
“SIT”
Inuyasha hit the ground hard. Kagome turned away disgusted and walked back to the village with Shippo still in her arms. She was still curious on what the half demon had said so she decided she would ask. “Shippo”
“Ya, What is it Kagome.” The kit said while looking out over the horizon.
“What Inuyasha said, was he telling the truth?” She hoped he would answer her question, but then again he might be too young to even know.
Shippo sighed and turned to Kagome. “Yah, he was telling the truth.” She heard him say with some regret.
“Shippo” She didn’t have to say much more, he knew what she was asking of him.
“I’m sorry Kagome.” He said his eyes down cast.
“Shippo its okay, just tell me why you did it.”
He sighed, “It shows possession.”
“What do you mean Shippo,” She said, curiosity was really getting the better of her.
“Kagome, Can I ask you something.” He still had his eyes down cased as he said this.
“Yes what is it Shippo?” She was becoming concerned because he wouldn’t look at her.
He was worried she wouldn’t accept. He wanted to ask so badly and for the past year he has wanted to caller her it more then ever. Sighing he began, “Can I…Can I call you mother?”
Kagome didn’t know what to say. Her little Shippo wanted to call her mother. Even though she was hesitant she smiled at him and nodded her head in and accepting manner.
Shippo perked up at this and he was so happy it over came him. Jumping out of her arms he ran down the hill to tell the others the news.
She chuckled at his display of happiness. She was so happy that he had asked her this but she knew that she wasn’t his real mother. It hurt thinking that he had no mother. She loved him very much and in a way looked at him like a son. Resuming once more with her walk down the hill she noticed that the half demon was making his way down as well. She stopped once more to allow him to ketch up with her.
They walked down the hill in silence but curiosity once again got the best of her. “Inuyasha, tell me way Shippo sent marked me?”
He looked at her and stopped walking. “Kagome you have to understand demon behavior before you can understand what he did.” He said calmly and with out his usual gruff undertone.
“Then explain it to me?”
He huffed but agreed nonetheless. “Okay first off you have to understand what a sent mark is.”
“Alright” she said.
“When a demon sent marks it means that we are putting a part of us on you. For lower level demon it serves to tell any other demon that this female is taken or male if you prefer.”
“What do you mean taken,” she asked.
“Taken, Like if I where to word it in a futuristic term I’d have to say Fiancé.”
“Oh okay, what else, Inuyasha.” This was interesting, and she was more then curious to learn more on the subject.
“For middle level demon, like me, we use sent marking to show who belongs to our pack. And for upper level, like Sesshoumaru, they use sent marking to distinguish their territory.”
“I don’t understand, Inuyasha. Why would Sesshoumaru need it anyway, and why is it you use it for pack and not territory, like Sesshoumaru, and please don’t tell me he pees on a tree.”
Inuyasha chuckled. If he ever found his brother doing that he would have to take one of those camera’s that Kagome always talks about and take a picture. What a Kodak moment that would be. “No Kagome, Scent marking comes from our auras.”
She started laughing at her stupidity, it was just too funny. “I’m sorry Inuyasha, go on.”
“Now what Shippo did was to set a claim on you.”
“A claim what do you mean Inuyasha, Like in mate.” Again he chuckled. Where was she coming up with these things?
“No, he’s far too young. But he set a claim to all those who approach you that you’re his mother.”
“Oh,” she said “Did you know he asked me just awhile ago if he could call me mother.”
“No, but he would have to. To set that claim is a big deal. Any demon who sees that a kit has claimed you as his mother will respect you greatly.”
“What do you mean Inuyasha?” This was definitely interesting.
“In demon society, besides Inu demon, Fox demon are highly respected as well as sought after for their knowledge in power as well as trickery. Besides my brother, Kagome, the other cardinal point lords are foxes.”
“Really wow. Then what does that mean for me.”
“Well if a fox would ever come near you they would instantly respect you. Fox demons hold there children in very high standards and treat them very highly, even though they may be young.”
“Wow, Okay” she said, it was so interesting. The demon society was very complex and she loved to learn new information about it.
“To a fox their children are the most important things in the world. Like others but the fox clans are so protective of their offspring that they will go to any length to keep them safe and well. Even kill if it had to come to it.”
“Well Hell Inuyasha, A human would do that if they knew that their children where in trouble. Most would give their arms and legs just to keep them by their sides. Even though most demons find the human race without honor or even a care in the world for anyone besides our selves, it’s not true. We care deeply for things around us, especially our children.”
“I know Kagome, My mother was Human, remember. I know very well what a human would do to keep their child safe, especially mothers. I remember everything my mother did for me, I knew very well if she had to she would die for me with out even think about it.”
It was silent for awhile as they thought of what each others mothers would do. Sighing Kagome said, “Keep going Inuyasha, I would love to learn more.”
He nodded before beginning. “Well Shippo has marked you, stating to all that you are his mother.”
“I know Inuyasha, what else,” She was getting anxious to get to the point.
“Well there is nothing else, I don’t know a lot about Fox society you’d have to ask Shippo or a fox demon for that information.” He was deliberately holding out on her. There were a few details she didn’t need to know about until later. And Inuyasha was going to make sure she didn’t know them until later for fear she would do them. Kagome would go to pretty extreme lengths to make those around her happy.
“Okay, But Inuyasha will you tell me something?” She asked hopping he would answer her question.
“Hn, What is it?” He stated calmly.
“How do you sent mark us and how does Sesshoumaru do it?”
“Oh, Well all I have to do is be near you. My aura surrounds you stating you are part of my pack, which says that you are under my protection. And well my Bastard brother just needs to walk around his territory to have it work.”
“So that’s why he is always walking around and patrolling!” She said, excited that she was able to figure it out on her own.
“Yep” Was Inuyashas response. He was just glad she was happy. He liked when she asked about demon society. He Like to be able to provide her information. It made him feel; useful and it was worth it at the end to see her smile. He loved her smile. I reminded him so much of Kikyo…
Resuming their walk down the hill they made their way into the village and into Kaede hut.
Around the world to Egypt
A vortex swirled around in the dust and sand of Egypt’s Serengeti desert. A soft glow surrounded it, lighting the dark night sky as a figure appeared in the center. The person was tall, muscular, and quite handsome. The vortex spun faster and the figure began to appear clearer. The sand that flew by created a soft sound almost like a whisper. It sounded beautiful and serene in many ways. It began to die down as the figure stepped out of it.
Anubis stood on the sand looking out into the horizon. He smiled and closed his eyes as he took in the soft scent of the world around him. He sat there taking it all in. He could smell the Nile River, inscents, dye, salt, and much more. He loved the living. It was delightful and fulfilling. He wished so much to be able to live in the realm of the living but knew very well his life was with the dead.
He began his journey with a step, then another, and another after that. Making his way through the sand with Godly grace, he walked on ready to explore and enjoy his five months of nothing but the living. His smile grew as he thought of the places he would visit.
Hi there I hope you liked it. I’m really only doing it for my cousin who is obsessed with Egyptian mythology and sick from tuberculosis. I want to make her happy and just decided I would write a story for her. I’m putting it here only for people to enjoy.

Thank you to all those who read this story and hope you like it. Also if you wish to follow along with it I will tell you it takes me awhile to post so I’m sorry about that and hope no one is mad. Again thank you and enjoy.
