Chapter One

“Shit!” The vibration against her leg almost caused her to slam on the brakes. She kept her eyes on the road ahead and dug through her purse. It was probably Kuwabara again making sure she was on her way. “Higurashi speaking.” Kagome turned down the radio to hear who was on the other side. It wasn’t the man but her roommate and long time friend. “Yes, yeah, I know, sorry. I got a page from Kuwabara saying that Yukina was in serious pain so I decided to head on out there. I didn’t want to wake you since you looked tired. Well stop working so much and I wouldn’t have to worry so much. Okay, I’ll see you when I get back, doubt I’ll make it back for breakfast. Don’t you dare go into the office today either, it’s your day off and I want to try out that new restaurant this evening. Alright go back to sleep Rin.”

‘What the hell am I doing out here at the ass crack of dawn anyways?’ Kagome clicked off the phone and tried to concentrate to getting to the temple in one piece. Wouldn’t do her or Yukina any good if she ends up wrapped around a tree. She flicked her headlights on low since the sun was starting to come up. Only the birds should be up this early. But the urgency she heard in the man’s voice had her moving her ass despite the earliness of the hour. It was one of the punishments for giving a damn about others. The temple was a two hour drive away, her furthest patient. The only reason she’d taken the case was because she’d been introduced to the little woman and had noticed that she was a demon. A demon trying to live in a human world. She snorted and turned the heat up.

Her face felt like ice, she needed to get her heating system fixed. As soon as she got a day off. That would help, then to rent another vehicle, oh the joys. “Couldn’t they live closer.” She grumbled thinking that this better not be the girl bumping her toe and her husband throwing a fit. It was nice to have a man dote on you but that one went too far. Of course she wouldn’t know what it felt like to be doted on, she’d never had a man do that. Even her years with Inuyasha, the man hadn’t doted on her like a love sick puppy. Considering he was part dog it had to be that love sick part that had been missing.

Part of it had been her fault, he’d been somewhat bitter at the end of their journey. He’d still been grieving over Kikyo. Her final death had left a great void in his heart and them in a world of shit. With the miko gone at Naraku’s hand there had been no one strong enough to purify the jewel and get rid of it permanently. Or so they had thought. The time came when they found Sesshoumaru battling the evil demon, going for Kohaku that had attached himself to the demon lord. Rin had been sitting at the boy’s fallen form as Sesshoumaru faced the bastard down. Inuyasha seeing his true nemesis attacked without thinking of what was going on. Kohaku had been down, meaning the last jewel fragment had been removed from his back. The complete jewel glowed pitch black in the man’s chest.

An intense battle had pursued, leaving Sango and Miroku wounded and Inuyasha fighting like a madman. She’d felt so helpless and pitiful, unable to help. Wanting to do something she ran over to the little girl and to check up on Kohaku. The boy wasn’t breathing, having passed from this world. She stayed at Rin and Jaken’s side as the battle continued. With the power of the complete jewel she noticed that even Sesshoumaru was having a hard time. None of them were able to land a blow on the evil demon. She watched in horror as Inuyasha took a blow in the chest. That had been too much for her, she ran to him. Fear had made her move, not caring that she drew attention to herself. Naraku did notice her and thought to finish her off while Inuyasha lay unconscious several yards away. A tentacle pierced her shoulder, a cruel hand wrapped around her throat. She’d called for the hanyou but he didn’t stir. Sesshoumaru heard her plea but was busy trying to keep Rin safe from the many tentacles. Kagome knew true fear as she was pulled into the barrier that the two brother’s couldn’t seem to penetrate.

Naraku boasted that he’d destroy her just as he’d killed Kikyo. Inuyasha had been stirring only to find her being held by Naraku. He’d raced for her but it did no good. She knew she was going to die and Inuyasha would be forced to watch. In desperation she reached for the jewel, it lay beneath his armor. As Kikyo had done before her she tried to purify it as it lay deep in his chest. She felt her power draining, she was becoming tired from blood loss and suffocation. Naraku’s words penetrated her foggy mind, “Watch Inuyasha, watch as I slay Kagome. Know that she dies because you were to weak to protect her. And Kikyo, for allowing me to become what I am. She was a foolish mortal that became too weak to stop me when she fell in love with you, a lousy half demon. She sacrificed her power and her life for you, shame history keeps repeating itself. Kagome will die by my hands just as her predecessor.” He stopped in his speech feeling what she was trying to accomplish. “Hmph, if Kikyo wasn’t strong enough to overcome me what makes you think you stand a chance? The day will come that humans and demons live in peace before you are powerful enough to harm me girl. You are nothing like Kikyo and she found out her mistake moments before I destroyed her body.”

He was right and she knew it, she wasn’t strong enough. Their hope had died with the other miko. How could she stop him? The only way to get rid of the jewel was to purify it along with Naraku and she wasn’t strong enough to do either. Though she did believe a day would come when demons and humans could co-exist and learn to care for one another. She loved Inuyasha despite him being half demon. Another example was fighting not far from her, a demon lord that was protecting a human child he cared for. “You’re wrong that day will come. I might not be strong enough to kill you. I wish I could see the day humanity and demons overcome their differences.” She wouldn’t because she was about to die but she could do something to stop this demon from destroying those that were important to her. “I can’t do much to make that happen but I’ll start with something simple. I wish that the human and demon souls inside the Shikon no Tama were no longer at war with each other so that day may come.”

Kagome pushed her CD into the slit and waited for the music to come on. Her literature teacher had always said it was the way you phrased words that gave them meaning. Oh boy, had the bald hypocrite been dead on the mark there. With that wish made the jewel had reacted and light had filled the forest. Kagome had come to some distance away from Naraku feeling strange. What was more astonishing was watching Inuyasha leap forward and destroy the man with one swipe of his fang. The jewel was found laying on the ground once they were sure the demon was dead. Miroku’s wind tunnel was gone but that trick had been played before. She got up seeing that Rin was laying unconscious on the ground. Sesshoumaru was standig over the prone girl but didn’t reach out to touch her. Kagome was relieved to see that she was breathing. A voice had entered her mind as she touched the little one. Being informed that she had just fucked up wasn’t how to start her ‘Naraku is Dead’ ceremony. Midoriko informed her that due to her careless wish that the two souls had been torn from the Shikon. Apart they could not wage war but still could not rest due to the miscalculation of her wish. They stopped warring so that day may come. Oops, she’d condemned the souls all over again with her outburst. Being apart meant not being in the jewel but they had to go somewhere since they did not have a body of their own. Kagome had been horrified that the demonic soul had hastily entered her own body. Midoriko had searched quickly for someone and chose the only innocent on the battle field that could handle her presence. Shippou and Rin, the only innocents around. The kitsune was a demon and Midoriko’s soul would have destroyed him, so the human child had been chosen.

Kagome was glad that the demon soul had chosen her and that she wasn’t a total wuss. Her own powers kept the soul dormant and at bay. Unlike Rin that had woken up to having an extra presence around. Sesshoumaru asked what had been done. He hadn’t been happy to hear that she’d made a mistake and cursed herself and the little girl. Not like she’d known what would happen. He hadn’t seemed upset over the fact that Rin wouldn’t die anytime soon. Just the power being cursed gave her. The demon soul and Midoriko would not be gone until the wish was fulfilled. Something that the jewel itself could not grant. Which meant that her and Rin would suffer their fate along with them until that day came. It also meant that she had found herself bound to the little girl, same as the two souls that had been inside the jewel. The well wouldn’t work for her when she tried to go home to tell them she was okay. She still didn’t know if it was because she was bound to Rin, the jewel being gone or the well sensed the demonic soul laying dormant in her. For whatever reason it wouldn’t let her through. She’d found herself stuck in the Feudal Era with the child she’d cursed to share her fate with her.

Rin hadn’t wanted to leave Sesshoumaru but she’d explained to the little girl that there was something inside her now that might hurt her lord and Jaken. That had gotten her attention and Sesshoumaru said he’d return for the child later. Later never came, but Rin had moved on. At the age of seventeen the girl seemed to stop aging. Kagome knew it was due to the curse, after all she’d been twenty-six then and hadn’t aged since that day either. Sango was showing signs of the years going by but not them. Sango and Miroku had had children only to pass on due to old age. Rin had eventually found a husband at the age of forty-five. While her and Inuyasha had started a relationship of their own. She missed him, she always did. Funny that twenty years after Rin got married, her husband also died. Then a few years later Inuyasha had left Kagome as well. Not through death but had walked out on her. She’d known he wasn’t happy and that something was missing. The hanyou ended up with Sesshoumaru of all people. They knew this because Sesshoumaru came by once every year to deliver means for Rin to survive.

Kagome took a right to hit the road that led to the temple. She’d tried to make it home in time to go out tonight. She needed to relax and take a break. After centuries of missing her family she’d gotten the chance to see them again. Due to Sesshoumaru making ‘wise’ investments due to her knowledge of the future, the lord had made out like a bandit. He was very generous towards her and Rin and twenty years ago had given them enough money to last them several life times. Of course she hadn’t known how to deposit it in a bank since technically Kagome Higurashi hadn’t been born yet. Thankfully, Koenma had been able to help her this time around and managed to give her the fake documents needed. She’d helped the demigod several times over the centuries, so he owed her. Her and Rin had a place of their own and lived comfortable lives. They didn’t need to work but did just to have something to do.

She’d gone to college to get a degree in the medical field. Being a midwife was something that helped ease the ache of not having children of her own. Rin had gotten pregnant several times during her marriage but had lost them all not long after discovering she was expecting. Their curse to watch the ones they loved to die and leave as they were forced to remain behind. A year ago she’d went to check on her family in Tokyo. Souta was starting high school which meant she’d been gone for the last time for a few years. They’d been happy to see her again but had been shocked to discover that while only a few years had passed for them she’d made it through centuries. Rin did what she loved to do; draw. An upcoming anime studio had hired her for her unusual talent with the pencil. Not needing the money they did their daily jobs because it was their only joy.

She wasn’t finding much joy in it right now. She wanted to go home and crawl back in her bed. She parked her car on the side of the road. Here and it’d still take her half an hour to get up the blasted stairs. She took her bag from the passenger seat. Sure enough, she was winded thinking about climbing up the damn stairs. Why did these people feel the need to live out in the country? Being up late delivering, getting two hours of sleep didn’t help give her motivation to hike. Yukina was up there waiting on her, with who knew what wrong. ‘What a morning,’ she took a deep breath and started the long climb.

She reached the top of the stairs and looked around the compound. All this space for an old woman, an ice apparition and a dumb ass. Calling Kuwabara a dumb ass might be a tad harsh but that’s what he got for waking her up. He worked at the same hospital as herself but that didn’t mean she was his personal lackey. She liked the guy on most occasions so she’d agreed to become his wife’s personal midwife since the woman didn’t like doctors. She’d figured out the reason for that upon meeting Yukina. Enough said, she had another private patient.

A shiver ran down spine making her pause. She felt like she was being watched, very intently too. The morning breeze stirred bringing the scent of rain with it. She couldn’t pick up on anything but the uneasy feeling coiled in the pit of her stomach. Her mind said to turn around, she glanced behind her to the row of trees she’d just left. Something was up there, she could feel it. Her eyes couldn’t make anything out and she didn’t hear anything. Whatever it was, was very good at hiding itself. “Good morning, try not to fall out. I’m a midwife not a doctor.”

‘Hn,’ Hiei watched the human female go into the temple. Kuwabara greeted the woman anxiously. So this was the specialist they’d called in. What kind of specialist could the girl be? She couldn’t have seen no more than twenty human years. They were going to let someone like this take care of Yukina? Who was she? Why couldn’t he sense anything? She had no spirit energy what-so-ever. Every human had a distinct aura that cloaked them. Even if most were pathetically weak. This girl had none and had known he was here. He was very good at cloaking himself. Was she something like Kuwabara? He sat down on the ledge and tried to listen to what was happening inside the temple.

Whomever she was, he wouldn’t allow her to hurt his sister. Kurama could think he was just being paranoid because Yukina was expecting but he’d learned not to ignore the warnings given to him by the jagan. The dreams haunted him every night. He watched as someone take his sister’s male child. He wouldn’t allow it to happen, not to her. Strange that he was having these signs and this girl was showing special attention to his sister’s care. If she was the one after the baby she’d pay dearly before ever laying her hands on the babe.

“Hello Yukina,” Kagome greeted the little woman laying on the bed wearing a grimace of pain. Well, it wasn’t a stubbed toe. She put her bag down and sat next to the woman. “Sorry it took me so long to get here. I was up late at the hospital. I delivered a fine baby girl this morning. Now, why don’t you tell me what’s going on. You seem to be in pain. Where is it and when did it start?” The normal questions were asked so she’d know if it was due to something the woman had done or if she needed to figure out something real quick about ice apparitions.

“That’s wonderful, I hope my son is okay. Well,” Yukina looked up at Kuzuma standing in the doorway listening to every word. He was going to be upset hearing what she had to say. “I was cleaning out the basement. Yeah, I know you told me to take it easy for the last few weeks. I was bored and with Kuzuma’s belongings clustering up Genkai’s room I thought to just straighten up a bit. I was just fine until I picked up a box to move it aside. I guess I tripped on something. I fell forward and landed on the box. It hurt my stomach, it went away though. The pain was gone until last night. I was laying in bed and felt the first pain. Did I do something wrong?”

“Yes and no, you should have called me. Accidents happen, we can’t help that but you could have hurt yourself and the baby. I told you to call me whenever you had the need. Now, if Kuzuma will get out I want to check you.” She turned to the man and gave him a look that held no argument. The redhead grumbled but stepped out of the room. She opened her bag to get out what she’d need. “Go ahead and take your bottoms off and lay back. Try to relax also, I’m sure you’ll be fine.” The gloves made a slapping sound as they were applied to her hands. Not like she had to worry about being too careful with an apparition. Yukina was laying against the pillows completely trusting of her.

“Thank you for coming. I just didn’t want to worry Kuzuma.” Yukina smiled at the girl moving to sit between her legs. She’d gotten over being embarrassed months ago. Kagome was young but a very good care giver. She was glad that Kuzuma had asked the woman to be the one to see to her during her carrying term. She felt the cold substance and the fingers enter her. “They aren’t that regular but he said to call you anyways. He’s always been over protective of me.”

“That’s because he loves you. You are very lucky, so don’t knock him. Not all of us are that lucky.” Kagome frowned and pulled her fingers out. “Go ahead and call Kuzuma and Genkai in for me please.” Kagome especially wanted the old hermit to come. She knew of the woman’s abilities and they would come in handy now. She could do it herself but didn’t want to risk it. Not with the person that had been outside watching her. And Yukina would no doubt pick up on what she really was. She didn’t want to scare the woman any further into labor. It only took one yell for Kuzuma to come in and be told to go fetch the other female.

Kagome took the gloves off and tossed them in the trash. She placed her bag onto the night stand and dug through it. She wondered how Yukina felt about needles. She opened the case with the sterilized instruments aside and searched for her vial. The elderly woman came inside with the worried husband. “Good, you are here. I’ll tell you all so I don’t have to explain this twice. Yukina’s sac is leaking. It isn’t much right now but could become worse. She hasn’t dilated yet but those contractions are working on it. She’s about to go into premature labor,” If she’d been a human she’d have already delivered. She could only guess that the girl’s own powers were trying to repair the damage that had been done. Well, she’d just help it along to make sure it happened. “I’m going to give her a shot to stop the contractions. The plug is still intact so we can make sure she makes it to full-term. Can you concentrate on healing her mid-section Genkai?”

The old woman nodded and didn’t comment. Kagome and her had already had a discussion. Genkai had picked up on her shielding. That had led to a nice conversation and a respect for each other. Though it was hard to be close to an old woman that did nothing but played video games in her spare time. She took the needle out and laughed seeing Kuwabara turning white. Puss, she chuckled but walked over to the woman and took her arm. She wasn’t sure if this would work on a demon but it should. If not then Genkai helping to heal the torn tissue in the woman’s womb should do it. Yukina seemed to have healing abilities of her own. Just ignorant on the whole baby thing and her own body. “Hold still this is going to have a little prick to it. Kind of like my ex.”

“I feel you there kiddo.” Genkai smiled feeling the damage begin to repair itself. Yukina looked confused at the comment. Kagome laughed and proceeded to give the ice maiden the shot. She hadn’t been sure what was wrong with Yukina. She hadn’t told them of falling. Genkai knew a lot but that didn’t include pregnancy and delivering a child. “I use to hate it when they’d boast of their stature. You’d want to beat their ass when you found them lacking.”

“Oh, I know what you mean. Had one that I dated for months, he gave the line of taking things slow. No problem, or so I thought.” Kagome withdrew the needle and put the cap back on. “There Yukina, I want you to stay in bed. Do not get up unless it’s to hit the bathroom.” She took the rubber from the girl’s arm and turned to Genkai. “Anyways, he boasted big time. Saying his ex complained that he was splitting her in two or something like that. So, I’m thinking he’s got something to offer. My big night came and I was shocked, came out with grey hair. Bastard had about two inches on hard, seriously.” She held up her pinky finger to emphasis her story.

“I got you beat kid. Second guy I bothered with in my life. Thought I found something sweet, compassionate, caring and he seemed to good to be true. I got tired of waiting and went to feel it. Ever seen an inverted penis?” She saw Yukina open her mouth in confusion and Kagome’s jaw drop. “Let me tell you it looks like they’ve been kicked in the dick so hard it decided to hide permanently. Once I coaxed it out I got about an inch to pick my teeth with. That is disappointing and people wonder why I prefer to be an old and lonely hag. Shame they didn’t have battery operated replacements in those days. I might have been more cheerful.”

“They really come that small?” Yukina figured out that they were talking of a man’s love tool. She didn’t see any problem with Kuzuma’s. Nope, he had a nice size thingy that he had used on her. He’d been the only male she’d seen in an undressed state so she was curious as to what they were talking about. She was already feeling better with what they’d done. She wanted to get cleaned up but Kagome had said for her to remain in the bed.

“Stop that, don’t talk like that in front of Yukina.” Kuwabara didn’t want to think about the fact that Genkai use to have sex. He’d always see her as a grandmother and the thought made him ill. Now Kagome was very pretty and young but he didn’t want her giving Yukina ideas about trying others. She was satisfied with his and it should stay that way. “Now, is she going to be okay?”

“She should be fine now. Just make sure she stays in bed for a few days. Keep a better eye on her too. My phone and pager are always on. So feel free to get in touch with me if she doesn’t improve. If she feels better she can get up and shower in the morning. Until then she’ll need one of you two to clean her up.” Kagome walked back over to her bag and tossed the used needle into the trash. She needed to get home and take a nap.

“Very well, I’ll keep an eye on her.” Genkai was sad to see the girl heading out so soon. She knew more about the miko than the girl knew. Not satisfied with the lame explanation the girl had given she’d pried information out of Koenma. She enjoyed the miko’s company when she did stop by. Someone that greatly reminded her of herself. “Sure you won’t stay for tea?”

“I’d love to but I can’t. I need to get home before Rin decides to haul ass for the day. I’m going to have to chain that one down. We have plans for the evening. Won’t be any fun dragging dead weight around because she went to work on her day off. Thanks though, I’ll come back by one day when I got some free time.” Kagome smiled at the old woman and picked up her things. “Take it easy Yukina. I’ll keep our regular appointment and be back next week to check up on you if everything goes okay.”

“Oh, bro called and said Yukina was just fine. The midwife left about an hour ago and she was feeling much better.” Shizuru flipped the viser down to check out her makeup. She really needed to let her hair grow back out. She tucked a strand behind her ear and smiled feeling the hand come to rest on her knee. It gave a reassuring squeeze, “Glad she’s okay, he was getting on my nerves. Like it takes a genius to figure out that she needs the midwife.”

“He’s nervous, it’s his first child.” Kurama braked at the stoplight and turned towards his girlfriend. Thinking of children were they going to finish their talk from last night? Shizuru had brought up the idea of them starting a family of their own. He knew she was waiting for him to propose. He was seriously considering the option. He adored the woman greatly, she meant a lot to him. “Have you decided where you wish to go for breakfast?”

“The usual is fine. Or we could pick something up and head back to my place. Maybe have a little dessert before hand.” Shizuru leaned over and took the willing mouth he offered. She sighed into the deep kiss, getting lost in the feeling he stirred. The man sure knew how to kiss. His hand captured the side of her face, holding her in place. Breakfast just might be off the menu now. She heard the squeal of tires a second before she was thrown forward. The seatbelt locked keeping her from jumping out the windshield but it dug into her shoulders and chest. It happened so fast, first she was kissing Kurama and next she was gasping in shock.

“Fuck!” Kurama growled out as the impact ended. “Are you okay?” Shiz shook her head but he quickly looked her over. What the fuck had hit them? “Stay here,” He undid his belt and opened his door. Buried in his bumper was a white sportage. Or what was left of one. Hadn’t the person seen them stopping for the red light? He swore as the driver side open, “Wait, don’t get out.”

Rin blinked at the voice and tried to clear her head. What the hell had happened? She looked up to see the front of her vehicle planted into someone’s truck. ‘Oh my! Kagome is going to kill me. I’ll never hear the end of it.’ Ignoring the person coming towards her she stepped out of her now ruined vehicle and groaned. So much for getting back to the house before the miko discovered her gone. She was so busted and in for it. This was the third one she’d totaled. The insurance people were going to hate her. “Ohhhh, I’m so dead. This can’t be happening.”

“You’re fine, obviously.” Kurama looked the tiny girl over, she appeared to be fine. There was a small gash on her forehead but she was walking around as if the accident hadn’t happened. He squinted seeing the baggy grey pajama pants and the wrinkled pajama tank top. Someone was driving in her night clothes. Her hair was tousled and in disarray. A strange smell was coming from her as well. She turned to look at him finally, with red rimmed eyes. Brown eyes that reminded him of a doe, a drunk doe. What had she been into? Great, his luck she probably didn’t have insurance and driving under the influence. “Stay here, I’m going to call the authorities.”

“The authorities!” Rin ran her hand through her hair. Great, no way she’d get out of it now. At this rate she’d lose her license and Kagome was going to throttle her. How many points did they give you? There was no way she could leave the accident. She couldn’t drive away and she couldn’t pick up the busted thing and move it away. She was so in for it. She leaned against the crunched up side and felt like hitting something. She should have did as Kagome said and stayed home. Now the miko was going to have to pick her up. There was also getting a new vehicle. That steam and hissing sound couldn’t bode well.

“Is she okay?” Shizuru climbed out her side when Kurama reached into the glove box for his phone. He moved back so she could climb out. She walked to the rear to see the impact the girl had made. His bumper was pushed in and the tail gate was fucked. Other than that it appeared to be okay, nothing to keep him from driving. The girl’s vehicle on the other hand had to be totaled. She was leaning over the bent hood talking to herself. “I take that back, is she drunk?”

“I don’t know, I’m assuming that she is.” Kurama dialed the number to make sure that someone was on the way. He was going to assume that the girl probably had more injuries but didn’t feel them due to being intoxicated. He just wasn’t sure what that smell was and what she’d been into. He saw her going to the front seat and came back out with a phone herself. He hoped she wasn’t calling someone to come pick her up from the scene. The authorities would be here soon. He turned his attention back to Shizuru who was rubbing her neck. “Are you okay? That was a pretty harsh impact.”

Rin cringed when the miko answered the phone, “Hey, yeah morning to you too.” Oh, it was time to hear it. She took a deep breath. “I left home, ummm, ohhhh, no I’m not in trouble.” Okay, so she had a habit of doing shit and getting into trouble. One would think after all this time she wouldn’t but she was clumsy. And vehicles really really really didn’t like her. Kagome said she trusted her brake too much. This time it was her fault cause she’d started to doze at the wheel. “No, I’m not home yet. I kind of hit someone. No, they were in their car, they aren’t dead.”

She turned from the staring couple and heard the sirens in the distance. What scared her was the fussing miko on the other end of the phone. “I’m at the corner of Fifth and Main. Yes, I went downtown. No, I wasn’t going to work.” She blushed when the girl called her on the lie. “Okay, okay, I was. I was just going to pick up something. That soon? Yes, not like I can go anywhere. Not like I can fly away. No, I left her at home.” Though having Kirara take her away would be nice right about now. “Yes, I’ll be here.”

She closed the phone and rubbed her eyes. Kagome wasn’t threatening to throttle her so she might make it home alive. Knowing what they would want she walked to the other side of the vehicle to open the passenger door. She groaned when it didn’t want to open. “Open up,” she kicked it, injuring her toe more than the door. She giggled as it popped open to hang on the hinges. Stupid door was always giving her hell. Now she had an excuse to get rid of the bloody thing. She should have wrecked it before now. Kagome said just because they could afford new things didn’t mean they needed them. Well she hadn’t been stuck with the sticking door and always beeping radio.

What were the chances of her convincing Kagome to grab breakfast on the way home? She was suddenly very hungry. She had her license, insurance card, registration and excuse ready when the sirens pulled to a stop near them. Kagome said she was only about ten minutes away, the woman needed to hurry. She smiled at the uniformed man that came towards them. Naturally, he went to the only other male present. She listened as the cute redhead explained he was sitting at the red light and had been hit in the back. Like it wasn’t obvious that she’d eaten his rear. “Yes officer, he has a nice ass so I decided to tap it.” She muttered to herself and ran a hand through her hair.

“Did you say something Miss?” The officer turned to her and she shook her head. He walked over to her and looked her over. Okay, so she wasn’t all dolled up like the guy’s girlfriend. She never could understood why females wore that face paint. When she’d been growing up only certain types of females wore it. She handed out the required information before he could ask for it. His eyebrow perked up, “What’s that smell? Have you been drinking young lady?”

“No sir, thanks for the compliment though.” She smiled at his confused look. She needed to go to bed, she was getting stupid. Why did he mention how she smelled? She’d taken a shower yesterday. She’d been up all night but that wouldn’t make her funky. Not like she’d been doing anything strenuous. She brought the top of her shirt up to take a sniff. Oh, that’s what he noticed. After calling to find out where Kagome had ran off to she’d went into the dark room to mess around with the latest prints Kagome had brought home for her. She adored babies and had been happy when the miko had taken ones of the happy mother and newborn. Clumsy her had bumped into the tub of lacquer and some had splashed on her clothes. She hadn’t thought to change before racing out the door. “Oh, that’s the lacquer I use.”

“Lacquer, huh. You mean liquor? Ma’am, I’m going to ask you to take a breathalyze test for me.” The man left her standing there. She stuck her tongue out at his retreating back. Asshole, she wasn’t drunk. Like she could drink the chemicals and not end up with a corroded gut along with heaving blood and dying an agonizing death. She crossed her arms when he came back with the little machine.

She opened her mouth and smiled, “Okay, but I warn you, I haven’t brushed my teeth this morning.” She breathed into the little mouth piece. She smiled around it and waved at the miko running their way. The man told her to release it. “Ack, you do wash those things. Think the last guy must have had onions for dinner.”

“I see, okay so you aren’t drunk. Do you mind telling me how you managed to slam right into the other vehicle?” He looked at the girl, she looked fucked up. But it was saying she hadn’t been drinking at all. He looked at the other girl coming towards them. The woman completely ignored him and rushed to the girl’s side. “Excuse me, who the hell are you?”

“Excuse yourself.” Kagome bristled under the man’s tone. What a fucking jerk, who shit in his cornflakes? Someone hadn’t gotten laid last night. “I’m her sister and don’t take that tone with me. She hasn’t broken the law, so don’t get bent out of shape or take your sour mood out on us. Last time I checked this was a free country and I came because she called me.” She rolled her eyes at him and turned to Rin, “What happened?”

“After you left I got up and processed those prints. When I got done I noticed the time. I thought to head into the office, grab a few things then maybe grab breakfast on the way home. I guess I was more tired than I thought, I dozed off. I tried to stop but didn’t make it. Sorry,” Rin frowned knowing she sounded very irresponsible. She should have stayed home being so tired. “I don’t think either one of them are hurt though. Can’t say the same about Putt-putt.”

“Okay, I’m just glad you aren’t hurt.” Kagome looked at the poor abused sportage and laughed. It had seen better days. Time for a new one, maybe she should get one since her heat hadn’t worked the entire way home. She turned to the officer to see if he’d bitch about the explanation. He nodded and walked away, to write up the report. “Oh, what am I going to do with you?”

“Buy me breakfast, take me home and then climb in bed with me?” Rin smiled seeing she was getting off lightly. The miko seemed to agree to the idea. After all, they’d been planning on climbing under Kagome’s covers and watching the anime collection she’d brought home from work. It was nice to sit and relax, they didn’t do it often. “I promise not to go back into the office today and I’ll even take tomorrow off. We can go see that one movie you were talking about.”

“RIN!” Kagome placed a hand over her forehead seeing the girl’s apparel. “You went to the office in your pajamas, again? Would it have killed you to take the time to put on regular clothes? You are lucky that you are a valuable asset or your boss would have fired your ass months ago.” She waved her hand towards the wrinkled pajama pants. The girl even had on bedroom slippers, to add to the getup.

“What? No one was there yet and I just grabbed the new client list to look things over. Mr. Sanako said something about the clients wanting a sneak preview before they got in with us. I’m a little nervous okay, I’ve never performed in front of this many people before.” Rin didn’t see what the big deal was. She didn’t understand the people of this era. You weren’t supposed to run out in a bra and panties but during the summer months females wore even less in those so called bikinis. She had on nightwear but she was showing less skin than the redhead’s girlfriend, whom was wearing a skimpy dress.

“Nice one, instead of breakfast we get rear-ended by a porn star.” Shizuru reached inside the truck to find her purse. She needed a smoke, really bad. The officer sure was taking his damn time about writing up the report. She ignored Kurama’s displeased look at her habit and shrugged. She was trying to quit and she wasn’t smoking in his truck.

Kurama kept his opinion to himself and placed his hands in his pockets. The two females were deep in conversation discussing the latest fantasy movie that had been released. He clasped his hands together and placed them on the side of the bed. This wasn’t how he wanted to start his day. He’d be on the phone with his insurance company for most of the day now. In order to work he would have to get the back of his truck fixed. That meant finding out what her insurance would be willing to pay for. That would take time, then there was someone needing to come and get it taken care of. He couldn’t haul anything if his tailgate was fucked up. He’d have to borrow a company truck now.

“Wow, he’s actually kind of cute.” Kagome blinked seeing the nice little backside sticking out. The redhead turned to her and frowned. Oops, someone had good hearing. She laughed and turned back to Rin. “Don’t stare, it’s rude.” She couldn’t blame her though. He was a little on the pretty side but very nice to look at. He had a girlfriend though, one that was glaring at them. Well when one was walking around with goods like that they shouldn’t complain when others checked out the merchandise. It didn’t matter if it’d already been purchased and taken home. One would naturally do an appraisal out of instinct.

Rin had to agree, he was very cute. She’d seen better looking, her lord being one of them. “So, do you think we’ll be able to get another one? I have to take some things to work with me next week and I don’t want to take them on the bus.” She would bitch if she had to carry all those files and copies. People were rude and shoved her around. Hitting others was against the rules in this era. “And I’m not staring, he’s alright but Sesshoumaru is cuter.”

“Yeah, I guess you have a point there. Wait, scratch that, never mind, forget I said that.” She didn’t want to think of Sesshoumaru cause then it brought up images of Inuyasha. She’d choke him now if he weren’t hiding in the Makai. The officer was walking back towards them with a huge smile on his face. He must have spanked it while in the car, that’s what had taken him so long.

“Sorry about that,” He waved the couple over and turned to the redhead. “Here you go Mr. Minamino. Your copy of the report for your insurance company. Ms. Higurashi, sorry to inform you but you were in the wrong. Here is your copy and the ticket. I went easy on you and gave you the minimum fine that I could. Next time, head home when you are tired. Go home and get some rest. I’ve already called a tow truck to pick up the vehicle. Sure you don’t need me to call an ambulance? That looks like a nasty scratch.”

“I’m fine, thank you.” Rin rubbed the dribbling wound. Wow, that really hurt. When had she received that one? She just wanted to go home, say her final farewell to Putt-putt, “Oh, help me get my things Kagome.” She couldn’t believe she was about to let them cart away her things. She reached inside to unlock the back and went to retrieve her container. The officer was speaking to the couple again, “My purse is in the passenger seat, grab it.” She popped the heavy thing onto the sidewalk, looking at the crowd they’d gathered. Stupid gawking people, didn’t they have anything better to do?

Kagome put the purse on her shoulder and bent to retrieve the box. “What do you have in here? Bricks?” it had to weigh a ton. “I’ll just go put these in the car. You wait for the tow truck. We need to know where they are taking it.” It was hard but she managed to balance the box and make her way to the car. As soon as she got home she was getting some sleep. Much to her relief the couple got into the truck and left. The back of it rattled but they were able to pull away from the accident. No one had been seriously injured, she’d be happy about that.
