Before Love Honor

Warning: This is fic as well as many of my other earlier works were written over four years ago. These works are littered with errors such as mis-punctuation ect. However, due to the request of fans wanting access to these old works, I am re-uploading them to the archive. If you have never read anything of mine but have clicked on this story, know you do so at your own discretion since I have no immediate intentions of making the corrections needed because of lack of time.

For those who have been requesting these writings. I will try to upload two fics a day until they are all available for access. Anyway, here they are. I hope you enjoy these tales now as much as you did 4years ago. Much love and thanks for reading my humble writings, Kiea aka Animechick262003

Prologue

Daijiro stared down at the freshly completed letter. His heart felt full seeing the words inked out over the page, in a month’s time his young sister would receive word from him. A word that was long over due. I am coming for you, is what the letter said. How he longed to see them. He could only imagine how Rin had grown in his absence. She was an ungainly tomboy last he’d seen her, but he was positive, if she was anything like he remembered, she would be a most breathtaking young woman now.

Daijiro plucked the feather from the hilt of his sword and thumbed it. A representation of his promise to her. He’d worked hard over the two years to make his way up the ranks of the royal guards. And now, he was captain of his own battalion of elite swordsmen. He had done it, and now he was in charge of the care of his Lords One and only son, Gen. There was one thing left to do to make his dreams complete.

“Commander the men have been given their orders.” Daijio looked over his shoulder to the soldier who’d come into his tent. “So they have manned their post?”

“Yes,my lord.”

“Good.” Daijiro climbed to his feet and gathered his sword. “We are in for a long night, Genoske. You have a wife and child. If you wish to be relieved of your duties this night, I will understand.”

“I’ve never seen you like this, my lord.”

“It’s because we’ve never had such deadly opponents before, Genoske.” Daijiro smiled and walked from the tent.

“My, Lord, deadly or not, the men have great faith in your skill as a swordsman. I have great faith in your skill as a swordsman. For that, I would follow you into battle even if all of hell were our opponent.”

Daijiro looked at the other man and his heart swelled. This was what he’d sought. This admiration and trust from his men. There was no way he would let them down. “You think too highly of me.”

“We think rightly of you, my lord.”

“Thank you.” Daijiro looked at the letter he held. Rin also thought highly of him, and because of this, he had to make it back to her, no matter what. “I will not take you off your duties, Genoske since that is your wish, but I need to ask a favor of you.”

“Anything, my lord.”

Daijiro handed the letter over to the other man. “Please rush this letter over to the carriers. It’s important it goes out today.”

“Ah… a letter.” Genoske smiled.” Could their be a wedding soon for my lord?”

Daijiro laughed at the implication. A wedding for him? Hardly. He hadn’t had time for that sort of thing. Rising through the ranks as quickly as he had had left little time for courtship although there were many women who would have loved to have called him husband, he would not be so lucky. “I’m afraid not. It’s a letter to my little sister and mother.”

“Oh…the one you spoke of going to retrieve from your home country.”
“Yes, I plan to set out at the end of the week to get them and bring them here. I have already found a home and everything.”

“You seem very happy, my lord.”

“Indeed Genoske, I am happier than you could ever imagine knowing I will see them again.”

*************************************

"Damn it where'd they go?" It was like lightening, their attack. Before they ever realized what happened the entire first rank had been completely wiped out.

"I don't know Daijiro" a soldier called back

Genoske…Genoske, and the king’s son. Daijiro swallowed the lump in his throat remembering the sight of Genoske his innards spilling from his lifeless body. He’d told him to go home…to be with his wife and daughter, but Genoske had trusted him. They had all trusted him and he’d felled them. All of them his men and the Lord Fujimoro’s son Gen had been killed in the attack.

"There was nothing we could do bastards came out of nowhere. Haku was on watch, but he never had a chance. His throat was burned clean through. He never got a word out." A soldier called through the darkness.

Bodies lay everywhere. The agonizing cries of the wounded and dying rung the chaos of the night. How had this happened. All he wanted was to make a name for himself, and in the process make money so he could make a better life for his sister and mother, but now that dream was dashed. No one would hire his sword again after his carelessness. Their dreams were over.
"Damn those bastards!” Daijiro let his dark eyes scan across the court yard for signs of the assassins. If he could claim just one of their lives with his blade, then he would know for certain that his dream had not been an futile one. He would reclaim what he could of his honor.
A flash of white that darted into the forest and Daijiro gave chase. Whoever he was, he would make him regret ever having been born. Daijiro hurried into the forest. He could see the figure ahead of him. The bastard was quick and it was taking all his effort just to keep pace without losing sight of him.” Stop you bastard!" Daijiro drew his sword

The figure stopped sharply, and turned to face him. It was in that instance that he first saw their attackers for what they were. He’d heard that there were Youkai out to claim the King’s son’s life, but he couldn’t be certain. The King had made many enemies over the years, but youkai? Their kinds were seldom seen since they did their damnnest to keep clear of humans.

Daijiro entered into the clearing his eyes locked on the figure before him. He was a strange looking beast. If he hadn’t known him to be a son of the devil he would have though him an angel. Daijiro tightened his grip on his sword. This was what he’d prayed for, and now the opportunity had come. He would kill this one, and take his head to the king.

“I have come for your life, demon.”

“Do you think I will give it to you, human?” The creature smirked and narrowed his eyes. “Boy, do not be foolish. My business here is done. Return to your king and I will ignore your slight.”

“Ignore my slight?” Daijiro barked.” You slaughtered my men and the king’s son. If you think I will let you walk away with your life beast, you are mistaken.”

“You can’t win.”

Daijiro instinctively flinched hearing the threat in the demons voice. Perhaps he could not win, but it was not a matter of winning at this point as it was regaining his honor. "You have taken my honor away," the boy growled. "I was put in charge of securing this family, and I have failed. I will redeem myself by destroying the assassin that came here tonight. I will regain my dignity."

"You will die for honor?"

"It does not matter if I die or not" the boy retorted "Without honor, there is nothing" In that breath Daijiro charged forward. The youkai darted out of the way. But he wasn’t quick enough. Daijiro’s blade ripped into his side, and tore his flesh. The youkai hissed, but never lost stride.
The blood leaked slowly from the wound but as their movements increased so did the blood flow. Suddenly the small ring of blood was now a huge one staining the youkais white garb

Daijiro saw the stream of blood and suffered from a few wounds of his own, but kept onward intent on killing the beast before him.

"I admire you, human. You are the first mortal to land a scratch on me. Unfortunately I haven’t anymore time for this." The youkai seemed to glow in that instance. Daijiro darted in quickly the youkai was going in for the kill, and he would do likewise. Or so he thought. It was first the sound of his own bones being broken, followed by the metallic taste of blood flooding his mouth.

Daijiro dropped his sword, and collapsed to his knees. His body was numb. He couldn’t feel, and even worse, he couldn’t move. Simply, he was dying.

His vision began to blur and each breath was more painful and strained then the last. Daijiro looked up to the sky. He could just make out the dark blue and the twinkling stars. This would be his last vision. Not at all what he hoped for. A single tear slipped from his eyes and traveled down his cheek. What would Rin think? She was waiting for him…she was

"Your wish has been granted. You will die with honor, human" the youkai whispered as the boy gave his last breath. “Leave this world with no regrets.”
