CHAPTER 1: Cold heart
*****************************************************
The rain fell softly at first onto Kagome's cheeks. Almost like a sad watery caress. She smiled at the thought, it was ironic really, like the heavens knew the emotional trauma she was going through and was trying to comfort her.
But the caress didn't last long for with a loud crack of lightning the soft pattering of rain changed and came down in hard unrelenting sheets. She sighed the meadow she was currently standing in had few trees and the ones that were there would provide her with little shelter. There were no caves around like the one her friends had found earlier.
It was nestled in a small hill and was only about 10 feet deep and 6 feet high. But there had been enough room for the group to settle in and make a fire. It had been foolish of her to leave camp when the clouds were so black and ominous. After all the time she spent in the sengokou Jedia you would think she would know better. But her emotions often got the better of her these days.
She cursed silently. She didn’t know where she was and hadn’t a clue of how to get back. The land was drastically different from her home 500 years into the future, where there were concrete roads and signs that pointed you in the right direction. Modern day Tokyo didn’t have acres upon acres of lush vegetation merely small parks that were dedicated to what once was. It also didn’t help that she couldn’t see 5 feet in front of her.
Damn her for letting her emotions get the better of her! But she had been so upset that reasoning didn’t register in her brain. By now her friends would realize she was gone and be worried, but would probably refrain from following her thinking she had gone to the well. Her portal home. They wouldn't have been able to find her in this rain anyway. She sighed again resigning herself to a cold and miserable fate, and made her way to a nearby oak tree. It had decent foliage but didn’t keep much rain away from her chilled form. She slumped against the rough bark and put her arms around her knees trying to make herself as small as possible to keep warm.
Sense she wasn’t running anymore she couldn’t keep herself from thinking. That stupid InuYasha had done it again. He had gone to her. He had seen those damnable soul collectors and followed like the dog he was. She couldn't help flinching in guilt at the insult even though at the moment she felt he deserved it. She smiled bitterly she really was too nice for her own good. No she kept it timid and relatively decent calling him and idiot and moron. Small insults that just bounced off him.
InuYasha had had a rough life and had been called many hurtful things. She couldn't bring herself to cause him more pain and misery. She would show him the kindness she always had, the kindness that he just seemed to throw away at times. She felt used in every possible way and couldn’t help the choked sob that escaped her.
Why couldn't he see that he had nothing to be afraid of anymore? Why couldn't he see that he could open up to her, that he would never dream of hurting him? But past hurts and boundless pride always seemed to get in the way of their strange relationship.
The Idiot had come back to their small cave from seeing the dead priestess acting like nothing out of the ordinary had happened like they didn’t all know where he had been. But he had refused to look at her and was strangely silent. The symptoms Miroku had told her of regret and guilt. Not that he was to be believed his logic was skewed in too many areas. After a few long minutes of tense silence she had put on her most cheerful (and fake) smile and said she was going to go to the hot springs nearby, but had taken off in the opposite direction when she was out of site. Thinking to maybe cool herself down and get as far away from InuYasha as possible. In her moment of anger she had wanted to go off and gather all the jewel shards on her own. Teach them all a lesson, show them she wasn’t useless.
So what If she couldn’t purify a demon just by looking at it? She hadn’t been training since she was three! She hadn’t even know how to use a bow when she had come here a little over a year ago. She was luck she could even use her purification arrows. She didn't know hardly anything about being a priestess. There were too many differences to go over to try and understand why everyone treated her like an inferior child but Kikyo with respect and some admiration. They were too different their attitudes and beliefs too different.
To Kagome Kikyo was a sad manipulative spirit that existed solely for revenge that she had twisted around to make it as tragic as she possible could. She was consumed by anger and hatred and had lost her true purpose. To InuYasha Kikyo was a sad poor lost soul who was to be pitied and helped at all costs. He maintained the illusion that it was entirely his fault and had failed to protect her. To him all the mean and hurtful things Kikyo did were a misunderstanding and that she couldn’t be blamed. She was the first person to have ever opened up to him the first person he had ever loved. She understood this, and tried her damnest to be supportive.
InuYasha believed Kikyo was her own person that she still harbored her soul. No one could convince him otherwise, not that they wanted to really. He was very defensive on the subject Anyone could see that she was not the same gentle hearted priestess that she had once been. Everyone but InuYasha who was too blinded by old memories could see Kikyo for what she really was. Dead.
Kagome shuddered and brought her knees closer to her body. A school girls uniform wasn’t something one should be wearing in this era. And she wondered not for the first time why she insisted on wearing it.InuYasha was always saying she was too scrawny to be wearing such clothes and in a way she was right. She only came up to InuYasha's chest and was half a head shorter than Sango. She didn’t have much meat on her. Which put her in a disadvantage in so many ways. She wasn’t very strong. And more susceptible to wounds and infection. She was (in her eyes) slow and ugly always holding everyone back. She didn’t have the luscious curves the demon slayer had rather she was petite and had a small waist, and hardly any hips. Nor did she have the shiny black hair the dead priestess had rather it was wavy and a dull brown. The only thing she was really proud of were her legs, they were long and made her quite fast for a human anyway. and maybe her breasts they were at least on par with both the demon slayer and the soul collector Kikyo. She blushed at the thought. It was probably because the little amount of food she did eat went right there. It was rather hard to pig out in the feudal era.
She slapped her cheeks and tried to rid herself of such depressing thoughts. She moved a wet tendril of hair that had stuck to her cheek back behind her ear. Her hands were freezing when she touched her cheek and she drew them away hastily. If she survived this she was gonna have one hell of a cold. She glared hatefully up at the clouds that hadn’t let up on their onslaught. But she only succeeded in getting water in her eyes. Giving up she curled up onto her side and imagined that she was in a pair of warm arms. She was just gona rest her eyes for a minute...
InuYasha was to say the least frantic. Kagome had been gone for what he felt to be an eternity but in actuality only an hour or so. He was also pissed at her for worrying him and would let her have it good when she came back. He sighed It wasn’t her fault really It was his. He had hurt her again by going to Kikyo. She said she understood but he knew that it was still painful. Shortly after they had made camp he had seen the soul collectors drifting lazily in the sky some 6 miles to the east. He had gone right away leaving a sad Kagome in his wake.
But what the hell was he supposed to do? It was his Fuckin' duty! He had promised PROMISED! He had failed her once he wouldn’t do it again. Pride kept him bound he would never falter from his chosen path. It had not taken the hanyou long to find her.
She was in a small clearing looking as cold as a winter morning. She had looked at him and smiled that sad smile embracing him. He hands cold on his neck the smell of death and dirt clinging to his nostrils. He shuddered at the memory and immediately felt guilty it wasn’t her fault she had been brought back. Merely a cruel twist of fate. Vaguely he wondered when he had started feeling repulsed by her touch. He scent had always bothered him but the first few times she had touched him had felt like some form of forgiveness.
She had said that she had missed him in that impossibly cold voice so different from the warm one she had used years before."Naraku's Barrier is weaking once again, The foul creature is going into his human cycle" she had informed him looking cool and impassive.
The horrible curse of all Hanyou doomed to turn into their weaker form once every month. That bastard Naraku could at least choose his time for change. "It is time to rid the world of his horrid existence. InuYasha this is the fate of all Hanyou. Had I lived you would have been human you would have belonged and would not have had to suffer the life of a corrupted half breed." Kikyo said softly
He had stiffened and pulled out of her embrace hurt, but trying not to show it. He had gotten to used to his friends and their acceptance. He had forgotten about the outside world, about how others felt... how Kikyo felt, though she was better than others.
"My reincarnation should be up to the task of seeking him out she knows his aura. Find me there and we shall rid the world of his existence and get our revenge at last." He felt slightly angry that Kikyo insisted on calling Kagome her reincarnation like she wasn’t a person. She didn't deserve such a stereotype. She tried her hardest damn it! But Kikyo was already drifting away. He soul collectors carrying her to only kami knew where. He had slowly walked back to camp depressed and thoughtful just like every other time. He never got anywhere with his thought so he often wondered why he even bothered.
Upon returning he had tried to act normal but after a few minutes Kagome had left. He had flinched at the fake cheerfulness in her voice and the smell of salt due to her suppressed tears. After she had left Sango, Miroku and Shippo hadn’t spared him and turned full out glares on him. Shippo actually growled at him. They blamed him for Kagomes sadness and rightly so. He heard Sango mutter 'jerk' under her breath. Shippo’s hadn't tried to be discreet and had called him a selfish meanie and that if Kagome left and never came back it would be his fault and that he would never forgive him. He had dismissed the idea then she had promised to stay by his side. But now he was worried. What if she had just said that to make him feel better. Or worse what if she was so upset she decided the promise didn’t matter?
Finally he decided to go to the hot springs. He told himself it was only because the others were worrying but it sounded pathetic even to his own ears. He had left the cave and had picked up on her scent going on the opposite direction of the hot springs. That goddamn girl had lied to him. Which pissed him off to no end the stupid bitch should know better by now. He was the leader in this damn group and he wouldn’t tolerate this! He had started tracking her when it had begun to rain. He scent had abruptly vanished. That hadn’t stopped him though he had kept going in the general direction her scent had headed.
After searching for twenty minutes he was panicking. He cursed himself thoroughly. He had taken advantage of her caring nature thinking she wouldn’t be to upset over him seeing his past love. And now she was gone. What is she was hurt? What if a youkai had attacked her? And even if that wasn’t the case she would catch her death of cold out here. He wished that some god would smile down on him for once and let him find her. Gods he swore he wouldn’t even see Kikyo again if he could just fucking FIND her.
As he was beginning to lose hope he caught site of her huddled under a large oak tree."KAGOME" he called out to her. But there was no response not even a twitch. He leapt in front of her and stared down at her and gasped loudly. Her skin was very pale and taking on a purple color. He lips were blue and she was freezing. He heart was too slow for his comfort.
Picking her up and cradling her gently in his arms he searched franticly for some sort of shelter. After searching for a short while he found a small hallow in a tree just big enough for them to crawl in. He placed Kagome inside before quickly fallowing. She shivered in his arms and her realized she was soaked through.
He knew the clothes but was slightly reluctant to take them off for fear of her waking up and sitting him. He changed his mind after he felt another shiver quack her small frame. He ripped her clothes down the middle and without looking at her pulled them off. He then took off his haori and draped it around her. Her naked breasts pressed against him through his inner yakuta and he blush furiously, and tried not to get aroused it happened enough as it was. He pulled her close to him brushing her hair out of her face tenderly closed his eyes and prepared for the long wait.

They will get longer and better (hopefully) @_@ REVIEWS!!! feed this ones ego! tell me is I should continue this! Constructive criticism welcome but if your gonna flame me at least make it interesting!
