The Sad Truth of High School
Where the truth begins
By: Guardian Fang
I don’t own InuYasha or seek to infringe on any copyrights. Also, I’m changing up Inu’s Hanyou thing. InuYasha is human during the day and becomes hanyou at night. As always, when he gets really pissed off he becomes full demon. This won’t seem important at first, but it’ll come into play later on.
Chapter one: The sad truth of High School
Kagome groaned and hid her face in her hands. This day was just not going to end without a fight. She peeked out between her fingers at the clock. 1:47. Almost time to leave. She looked forward to going home on a Friday before February break, but she dreaded the ten minutes or so that everyone always hung around in the school’s back courtyard while the busses picked up the ones who couldn’t drive. Kagome sighed and ran her hands through her strait black hair. Normally she looked forward to those ten minutes. She usually hung out with her friends Sango, Miroku, and InuYasha, unwinding from the oppressive boredom of school. Today, though she dreaded it. It would mean that she would have to see her boyfriend Kouga. Their relationship had been deteriorating steadily for the past two weeks, and she had decided that she no longer wanted a part of it. Kouga on the other hand had a hard time letting go. Kagome could feel the fight coming. She was prepared for it, but that didn’t help to calm her turbulent mind. She wished she could jump forward in time half an hour and skip the whole ordeal. Kagome looked up to the front to see if anything important was happening in class. The teacher was droning on about something that she didn’t care to understand at the moment. Kagome jumped in surprise when she heard her name whispered from the seat beside her. She turned to face her friend Sango who looked back with a concerned expression. ‘Are you okay?’ she mouthed. Kagome sighed and shrugged. Sango tilted her head to the side and gave Kagome the ‘don’t lie to me’ look. Kagome sighed again and mouthed ‘Kouga.’ Sango’s eyes went wide. She chanced a whisper. “You’re gonna do it today? Right before vacation?” Kagome just gave her friend a pained look. Sango nodded. “Are you going to be okay?” Kagome looked back down at her desk. “I don’t know Sango.” She said with a slightly quivering voice. “I want out of this, but I don’t want another fight with him.” Kagome swallowed back the lump she felt forming in her throat. “I want to be friends with him.” Sango nodded. She understood perfectly. She had gotten out of a similar relationship only a month before. “You should come to my place tonight. I’ll call up the guys and get them over. It’ll get your mind off of all this.” Kagome nodded appreciatively. “Miss Higurashi!” the teacher said with a stern voice. Kagome froze and time seemed to drag on for an eternity. “It would see-“ her teacher was cut off by the bell and Kagome was packed up and out the door before her teacher could finish.
Kagome was halfway outside when Sango caught up with her. Kagome gave her a worried look, but Sango knew what was going to happen already. “I’ll go get guys just in case Kouga needs to be dragged away.” she looked Kagome in the eyes. The girl was already on the verge of tears. “Give him hell Kagome.” Sango hugged her friend and walked over to InuYasha and Miroku, who were mock sword fighting with sticks and looking like complete idiots. Kagome suddenly felt utterly alone. She hugged herself and swallowed, building up her courage. She surveyed the mass of her classmates, looking for Kouga. She jumped when two strong arms wrap around her waist. “Hey Love.” He said softly to her. Kagome’s heart nearly exploded as her conflicting emotions ripped her apart. She gently pried herself loose and turned to face him. “Kagome?” he questioned with a raised eyebrow. “Kouga… I…” she stuttered and couldn’t get the words out. The first tears spilled from the corners of her eyes. His usual smirk slumped and Kagome watched the emotion drain out of his face. “You’re leaving me, Kagome…” he said in a low angered voice “Aren’t you?” he demanded in a much louder voice. Kagome could already see that there was no saving the situation. “Kouga, don’t yell at me.” Kagome scolded, but Kouga only stood taller to make himself more imposing.
Kagome wasn’t afraid of Kouga, but she knew he could get violent when angered. She hoped desperately that InuYasha and Miroku stepped in before then. She chanced a glance in their direction. Miroku and Sango were practically holding InuYasha back to keep him from coming over and starting fight with Kouga. InuYasha had always been over protective of Kagome, even since middle school when they had first met. Though he would never admit it, every one knew he liked Kagome but was afraid to say so. Kagome even suspected it. Her eyes met InuYasha’s and pleaded with him for help. InuYasha caught the look and began struggling against Miroku and Sango. Kagome saw it was hopeless and turned back to Kouga. “How could you Kagome?” Kouga demanded, his voice getting louder. “How can you just throw away what we had?” Kagome’s temper was beginning to rise. “Keep your voice down.” She hissed. “I’ll do whatever the FUCK I want!” he shouted at her, emphasizing the curse. Kagome took a step back and cursed herself for doing so. Kouga noticed her fear and smirked. He was winning. “That’s just what I mean Kouga.” Kagome growled. “You never think of anyone but yourself. You think you’re some kind of god. That I have to cater to what you want all the time.” She growled. Kouga’s smirk disappeared again. This time replaced by a scowl. “You can’t talk to me like that wench! You’re MY woman and you’ll do as I say!” Kagome looked disgusted. “Is that all you think of me? As some kind of pet?” she began to realize the root of their problems and felt sick. “I can’t believe I wasted all of that time in you. We’re through Kouga!” she screamed at him. Kouga looked shocked that someone would try to yell at him. Sango was now distracted by the commotion and let go of InuYasha. He made a break for it, but Miroku caught him in a headlock. “You wait. No bloodshed unless it’s needed. InuYasha struggled and cursed at Miroku. Kouga spent a moment milling over what had just happened. His woman had just told him off. He couldn’t have that. He needed control. “You fucking bitch. You’re my woman and you’ll do as I say.” He said angrily. Kagome couldn’t believe that Kouga thought he could control her. Kagome stood up tall and put her face inches from his. “FUCK YOU KOUGA!” she screamed and turned away. Kouga grabbed her shoulder and spun her around. The next thing Kagome knew she was lying in a heap on the ground at the feet of a furious Kouga.
Across the grounds, Miroku Sango and InuYasha watched in horror as the fight ended. Sango’s eyes were wide and her mouth hung open. “He… He just…” she couldn’t finish the thought. InuYasha was seething with rage and clawing at Miroku’s arm, drawing blood in a couple places. Miroku didn’t notice. His arm went lax and InuYasha looked up at him. “Go for it. Kill the fucker.” He said distantly. His eyes were fixed on Kagome’s listless body. InuYasha didn’t need to be told twice. He was sprinting and tackled Kouga, pinning him to the ground. InuYasha didn’t like Kouga to begin with. Some people would say that his hatred of Kouga was spawned from jealousy that Kouga had Kagome. Now his hatred was driven by instinct. The two rolled around on the ground for some time, trading blows until Miroku jumped in and held Kouga’s arms behind his back. Kouga desperately struggled, but fell limp when InuYasha’s fist met with his undefended face. Miroku let Kouga fall to the ground. The crowd that had gathered around cheered for the victors and dispersed quickly as not to be around when the teachers showed up. There weren’t any teachers today, though. Or at least that any of the group would see. Sango already had carried Kagome to the safety of InuYasha’s truck. Kagome sat on the seat sobbing when Miroku and InuYasha arrived. InuYasha’s shirt was torn from the right shoulder to the middle of the chest. His right arm hung limp at his side and his face was half covered in blood from a small cut just below his hairline. Miroku had a bloody nose and his arm was bleeding from what looked like scratches. Both were panting and tired but neither cared about there own Injuries. “Is she okay?” InuYasha asked softly, an almost desperate concern playing across his face. “She should be fine. I can’t believe that fucker hit her.” Miroku looked back to Kouga who was pulling himself off the ground. “Fuck. Let’s get out of here.” InuYasha nodded. Sango hopped in beside Kagome and hugged her tightly as she cried into her shoulder. Miroku stood his ground as Kouga began top run towards them, screaming. InuYasha started the truck and called back to Miroku. Miroku jumped into the bed and they sped off, leaving a furious Kouga to deal with the consequences.
