Title: And So It Begins!

A/N: Yeah, ok, so this is a retelling of the movie, The Crow, starring Brandon Lee. I LOVE LOVE that movie, and thought the storyline would be a good idea for a story here. Don’t know if it’s ever been used before, or not. But I'm going to blend the first and second movies into the plotline. I am also changing the plot a little and characters up just a bit, so it will have a few different twists and turns than the original movie and graphic novel series. I am going to say now though, I hope you will like my version! Inuyasha/Kagome pairings. . But don’t worry Kag. . . .wait a minute, why am I telling you this, it will ruin the story! ^,^ Hope you enjoy! I've just rewritten it, tell me what you guys think. . . .Some of the elements stayed the same, but a lot has changed. . . .

And So It Begins!

‘People once believed that when someone dies,
a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead.
But sometimes, something so bad happens,
that a terrible sadness is carried with it.
And the soul can’t rest.
Then , sometimes. . . . .just sometimes,
the crow could bring that soul back,
to put the wrong things right.”

The night was dark and cold. It was raining. A light haze of fog swirled through the streets and mixed with the smoke that was prevalent in the city. Fires ravaged the city in spite of the rain. It was Devil’s Night. The one night of the year when chaos ran unchecked through the streets, and try as they might, the police couldn’t seem to quite keep up with all of the violence and crimes committed on this one hellish night of the year.

Naraku Onigumo owned this city, and Devil's Night was his holiday. He had started the first fire Edo had ever seen, well, him and his boys, Banko and the Roughriders. And but damn, if it wasn't time to remind these smartass punks who really ran this city. He was had grown disgusted with his holiday, after all these years. They even made "Devil's Night" greeting cards. 'Pathetic'. . .he thought. And then there was that punk boy and his band, "The Shikon Miko", always urging people to do the 'right' thing, and then singing about love. He heard a the shower turn off, and glanced at the shower that was in the corner of the room. "Ahhh, my beautiful Gura, you are the lovliest bitch in this damned city. Your pure evil essence spurs my mind to think. . . .And I think it's time we taught a little boy a lesson." He said silkily as she slinked to his side from the other side of the room.

"It can only be Inuyasha, you speak of dear brother," she said as a look of supreme disgust crossed her face.

Once she reached him, she climbed up to straddle his lap, and pressed her chest against his.

He reached up and flicked her nipple absentmindedly, "You know sister mine, I think it's time we acquired a new playtoy, what do you think?" he asked as he smirked.

"His bitch?" she asked.

"Oh my darlin, you can read my mind better than anyone else, for that is exactly who I meant," he said triumphantly.

"Can we make her bleed? Can we make him watch?" she whispered seductively in her brother's ear.

"You coy little bitch, stop flirting with me. If you keep talkin like that, well let's just say, I can't be held accountable for what I'm gonna do to you in a few minutes. . ." He smirked.

"Oh big brother, naughty naughty," she said as he leaned up to claim her in a kiss so hard her teeth broke the skin on her lip.

"Oh, send the boys after her now, I don't think I can wait to get this show on the road," she said.

He grinned evilly as he reached over and hit his intercom, but he was suddenly distracted by the news broadcast on television.

What he saw made him decide to change his plans, as he watched the screen, he saw that stupid shithead of a boy and his girl had made the news. . . . .THE FUCKING NEWS!! They were telling everyone that Devil's Night wasn't a real holiday, and that everyone should surpress any urges they had to follow in the footsteps of one, Naraku Onigumo. On top of that, they had the nerve, the motherfucking nerve to say he was a blight on society, and should be removed.

Although he had already informed Banko of the mission, plans had changed, and he called Banko down in the Rec Room, he knew that his well paid goon had been waiting for the chance to get his hands on both the bitch and her future husband. Especially after the night they had humiliated him in the club after he had groped her in the bar downstairs.

~Banko and the Boys~

Banko was only waiting for his signal to head out to undertake this mission. He didn't do waiting very well, but he was patient as he waited for the call. He had been looking forward to this for a long time. He never had been able to stand that stupid hanyou and his girl. She always acted like a goody two shoes bitch, going around and spouting that shit about 'loving your fellow man'. '

That deep abiding hatred had only grown after the one night he had felt the bitch up to get a good feel of her goods. She had used her miko powers to blast him across the room, and ended up harming his Jaki so badly that he had appeared to be a fucking ningen for almost a whole damned week. He answered the phone and listened as Naraku, the Top Dollar man, outlined his new plan for the fate of the couple.

"So Banko, my man," Naraku said after he was finished laying the new plan out on the table for his goon to consider, "I think we need to make an example of these people. Make sure it's painful, and make sure it's public" '

"No problems here, boss. Examples are what we do best!" he said a smirk in his voice.

"Do not fail me in this, you know what the consequences for failure are," he said, his voice dangerously low.

"No worries boss, we've already cased the place, it'll be a simple in and out mission. Easy as Pie!" he said.

"Good, now go my soldier of the damned, wreak a little havoc and destruction while you're at it," he said.

"Be my pleasure. Whatever pleases the boss, pleases me!" he replied and hung up the phone.

He walked into the main area of the Rec Room, and looked around at his Roughriders. It was about time they had another mission, it had been far too long since he had been able to kill someone with abandon.

"Alright boy's, listen carefully, we have been charged to undertake a mission for the boss, pay attention to what I tell you, because this is how it's gonna go down. . ." He said and started to outline the plan of the mission they were about to start.

~Inuyasha and Kikyo's Apartment on the other side of town~

They had just finished watching themselves on the news, when they heard a knock on the door. "I got it," Yasha said as he walked towards the door.

He opened the door to find none other than their 'adopted' little sister, Kagome.

"Gome!" he exclaimed, she was always a welcome face to have at their house. The only family she had was her mother, and her mom was on the streets most of the time, making money by using the oldest profession known to man, hooking.

Her face had become a constant fixture at their modest apartment over the past couple of years. It still amazed him how fast she had matured. She had gone from a skinny kid, to an almost grown woman in the space of two years.

He often wondered, if he hadn't met Kikyo, the love of his life, would he have fallen in love with Kagome first. If he were only younger, and single. He loved Kikki with his entire soul and heart, but there was just something about the girl. He shrugged his shoulders as he walked over to the couch and sat down beside his Kikki. Kagome was going to make some man very happy one of these days. . . .

Kagome walked into the apartment, and greeted the both of them with a hug and a smile, "Ok, you guys ready for the annual fright fest? I brought pizza!"

"Damn right girl, we stopped and got movies on the way home" Kikki said, getting up to set up the dvd player. This was a tradition they usually saved for Halloween, but Yasha and Kikyo were getting married tomorrow, on Halloween, so they had moved their annual get together up by one day.

Kagome smiled as she thought back to the first time she had met Kikki.

~Flashback~

A fifteen-year old Kagome was making her way through the line at the soup kitchen, wanting only to get a hot meal. Her mother had disappeared with her current boyfriend, and was probably holed up somewhere, higher than a kite, once again.

It was Devil’s Night, and the young girl didn’t want to be out on the streets alone. She knew what kind of evil this night brought out in people, and she knew that she would be able to find a place to stay at the soup kitchen, for it also doubled as a shelter for those who had nowhere to go.

Imagine her surprise when one of the volunteers came and sat down beside her as she was eating. “Hello!” the young woman with black hair had said cheerfully. “What do you want?” she said warily as she looked up from her meager bowl of soup.

“Oh, nothing. I just thought that maybe you looked like you could use someone to talk to.” She said nonchalantly, ignoring the hostility that was prevalent in Kagome’s tone of voice.

“You thought wrong then, didn’t ya?” she said, turning back to her soup once more.

Kikyo was not one to be deterred though, and she continued by asking the girl, “So what’s your name?”

“What’s it to ya?” came the sullen reply.

“Well, I was looking for a new friend that I could take out to get some coffee and donuts, but I guess I could always go by myself” she said slyly.

Kagome instantly perked up, “Donuts?” she said carefully. She was no stranger to being made fun of, but it had been so long since she had any kind of sugary confection that she couldn’t stop herself from answering.

“Uh huh,” Kikyo had said, nodding her head, “Donuts, but you have to tell me your name first. . .”

For the first time in a long time, Kagome flashed a real smile, “My name is Kagome”

~End Flashback~

She smiled as she thought back on those memories, it hadn’t taken her long to open up to Kikyo, and they had soon been chattering like they were long lost friends. When Kikki had found out that Kagome had miko powers as well, she had offered to teach the girl all she knew about how to control them better and use them to her advantage.

Kikyo had invited her to spend the night with her and her boyfriend, and she had found that she got along great with him too. They very quickly became her second family, and she remembered the night that Inuyasha had confessed he was going to ask Kikyo to marry him.

They were such happy memories, and she couldn’t wait until Halloween, tomorrow night, they were finally going to get married and she was the Maid of Honor!

They suddenly heard another few knocks at the door, and Inuyasha looked back at Kagome, "Did you invite some friends too?" he asked.

"No. . ." she replied.

A look of recognition crossed his face and he quickly whispered, "I've got to get the two of you out of here, our visitors are youkai, and they do not have good intentions here tonight."

Without another word, he had grabbed them and moved over to the window of the building, and hurriedly pushed them out onto the fire-escape. "Go down the fire escape and go get help." He whispered tersely as the banging on the door rapidly rose in volume.

"No, Inu, I will stay here and fight with you, Kagome can go get help, but I will not leave you here by yourself on your human night! I will fight!" Kikyo said, a determined look on her face.

He knew there would be no sense in arguing, because once she made up her mind, it didn't change.

"Fine then," he said starting to get pissed, why could she just let him protect her? Hadn't he promised her that he would?

"Kagome, you go get help, and be quick, I don't know how long we'll be able to hold out," he said.

"Ok," she said and without a backwards glance, she took off down the fire escape and ran off into the night.

Kikyo climbed back in the window as fast as she could manage, and just as soon as she had, their apartment door was kicked open.

An Hour Later

Miroku stood by the huge round window, and looked down to the pavement below. He could see cop cars and two ambulances surrounded by curious passer-by. He took another drag off his cigarette as his gaze moved to the sheet covered body on the gurney below. ‘No one deserves to die like this,’ he thought, suddenly growing disgusted with his smoke as he tossed it down and ground it out with the toe of his boot.

He blocked out the commotion of the other officers who were now processing the crime scene, and focused his attention to the girl currently being tended to by the paramedics. He knew just by looking at her that she wouldn’t survive, but he also knew that it would still be awhile before the end came for her. He looked down at the dresser that had obviously been used as a vanity. Though the pictures were knocked over, and some had spewed to the floor, he saw the smiling faces of these people he had once known. It tore at his heart to know that someone had murdered his friend and brutally raped one of the kindest souls he had ever known. He hadn't really seen them in a few years, as his work kept him too busy, more often than not. He looked up and his gaze caught on a photo that he had taken himself, only a few years ago, a smiling Inuyasha stared out at him as he gripped his cherished guitar, his eyes full of the boyish freedom that seemed to overflow from him. It was a picture of Inuyasha and his band, 'The Shikon Miko'.

He started to walk over towards the girl and the medics, when a fancy white piece of paper caught his eye from the floor.

“Mr. Inuyasha Taisho And Miss. Kikyo Miko, sincerely ask for the joy of your presence as we unite our souls in marriage, on this night of October 31, 2005, at 8:00 p.m.”

He had one of these pinned to his fridge at home.

He shook his head at the tragedy of it all, when he suddenly heard one of his deputies call for his attention. His head swiveled around to see Sergeant Shippo holding out the arm of a wedding dress.

“They were once Inuyasha Taisho, and Kikyo Miko,” he said referring to the victims, “They were supposed to be getting married tomorrow night. . “ he trailed off.

“Who the hell gets married on Halloween?” Shippo asked puzzled.

“Nobody,” was the reply he was given.

One of the medics detached himself from his duty of tending to the injured girl on the floor to approach the detective.

‘Sir, we’ve got to move her, or else she won’t last much longer,” he said urgently, waiting for his approval to remove her from the scene, and rush her to the hospital.

“Go ahead, do all you can for her.” He said and watched the medic scurry away.

“You know it’s too late to save her right?” Shippo said.

“At least I can try,” was the muttered reply as he followed the paramedics out the door and down to street level.

~Somewhere down in the street below~

Kagome raced through the streets on her skateboard, she had snuck out of the police station, after they had forbidden her leaving, claiming it was too dangerous and traumatizing for a girl her age. She only hoped she had been able to get the cops there in time.

She glanced through the building crowd and gasped in horror as she saw a sheet covered form lying on a gurney, bits of shattered glass covered the ground and she could see a blood trail down the side of the building. There was a rope hanging from Kikki and Yasha's apartment window, and as she glanced at the body again, she saw another piece of rope hanging out of the blood stained sheet.

She pushed through the crowd of onlookers until she reached an open area in front of them. She quickly darted underneath the police tape that was holding everyone else back and noticed a gurney being rolled down the stairs, and towards the back of the waiting ambulance.

Her heart stopped and her breath caught in her throat, she would recognize that figure anywhere!

“KIKYO! KIKKI!” she yelled as tears started to make their way down her face, and she ran to the side of the gurney. She looked down into Kikyo’s battered and bloody face and grabbed her hand as she ran alongside the gurney as it made it’s way to the ambulance.

“Where’s Yasha? Where’s Yasha?” she could hear the woman she considered sister, whisper from swollen and bruised lips. A cop appeared at Kagome’s side without her even realizing it, and he quickly shot Kagome a look as he answered the dying woman on the gurney.

“He’s ok, he’s on the way to the hospital. You don’t worry about him, just worry about getting you better.” Miroku said quietly and calmly as she was lifted into the back of the ambulance and prepared for transport.

“Tell him to take care of Kagome!” were the last words out of her mouth as they closed the ambulance doors and took off into the dark of the night. He didn't know who this 'Kagome' was, but then again, he hadn't seen his friends in a couple of years either.

Miroku looked at the younger girl in front of him, “Are you Kagome?” She turned tearstained eyes towards him and slowly nodded her head.

“Yeah”

“Ok, look Kagome, your sister is going to be all right,” he said to her, not even able to convince himself.

She raised her eyes to his face, “She’s not my sister, she just takes care of me. Her and Yasha both helped take care of me. They are my friends.”

She paused a moment before a light of realization entered her eyes, “You lied to her about Yasha, didn’t you?”

“Yes, but it couldn’t be helped,” he said hopelessly.

“And now you’re lying to me about Kikki, aren’t you?” she said as her eyes filled with tears.

“Yeah. . .Yeah kid I am,” he said since he could think of no suitable lie that would not hurt the girl more.

At his words, she could no longer keep the sobs back, as she leaned into the police officer standing in front of her.

“Hey, hey it’s ok, it’s ok,” he said soothingly to her as he put his arms around her, and pulled the sobbing girl close, trying to offer any kind of comfort he could. “It’s gonna be alright, you’ll see.”

~ONE YEAR LATER~

‘A building gets torched,
all that is left is ashes,
I used to think that was true about everything,
families, friends, feelings. . . . . . .
But now I know that sometimes,
if love proves real,
If two people are meant to be together,
nothing can keep them apart.’

Kagome walked through the cemetery, and picked up some of the nicer flowers from the other graves as she headed through with a determined air about her. After a few minutes of walking and random flower stealing, she reached her goal. She looked at the two headstones in front of her, and couldn’t stop the tears that fell from her eyes.

Inuyasha Taisho

Kikyo Miko

They were only simple engravings on stone, but they were the two people who had meant the world to her. She quietly laid a mixture of posies and carnations on Kikki’s grave, she had always loved carnations, and one white rose was put on Yasha’s grave. She silently reached up and alternately laid her hands on the smooth marble of the headstones.

“It’s been a year, And I still miss you two sooo much.”

She glanced at the watch that she now wore on her arm, and realized that she had to go, or else she would be late getting to work at the tattoo parlor where she was employed.

She withdrew her hand and turned to walk away, when a sudden fluttering behind her caught her attention. She looked back to find a huge crow had landed on Inuyasha’s tombstone.

“Crazy bird,” she smirked and finished making her way from the cemetery.

A light rain began to fall, gradually becoming heavier and heavier until it was a steady downpour.

The large crow that sat on Inuyasha Taisho’s headstone, started relentlessly pecking on the smooth stone beneath it’s feet. For every three taps, it would lift it’s head and beak to the sky and cry out one lonely, but loud, “CAW!”

After a few minutes, though, it abruptly stopped, and fixed one beady eye on the ground in front of the tombstone.

Just as the sun finally set on this new Devil’s Night, the ground in front of the crow and the headstone started to pulse.

Each pulse seemed to get stronger and stronger until a loud creaking could be heard throughout the cemetery, and suddenly the ground itself seemed to open as a lone figure launched himself out of the ground. . . .

“Aaaaaaggghh!” he screamed as he surged up and out of his grave, only to land flat on his back, and he tried to figure out just exactly what the hell was going on. . . . .
