The right thing

Prolouge
The young girl watched with wide eyes as a group of children bullied the young boy. Her Father had told her about bullies, and that they tend to pick on people who are different than themselves.
But the girl couldn't understand why they were being so mean to the boy. He hadn't done anything to them.
Was it because of his silver hair?
Her bright blue eyes welled up with tears as the bullies pushed him to the ground.
"Freak!"
"Half breed!"
What did these words mean?
She jumped off her swing and ran across the playground, tears streaming down her face. Though the silver haired boy had stood to his feet in defiance, she still saw one of the kids raise their fist toward him.
"Stop!" she cried, jumping in between them.
The bully snickered. "Get out of the way, stupid!"
The girl shook her head and held out her palm to push him back. "You leave him alone!"
They laughed at her. "And what are you going to do to stop me?"
Tears continued to flow from her eyes. She was scared, but determined.
Slowly, a warm pink light desended from her palm as she placed it on the bully's shoulder and violently pushed him back.
She smiled, wistfully. "I'm not really sure what else I can do."
The bully stood to his feet and took off running as fast as he could, his friends following after him.
In the distance, the girl could hear her Father call for her.
The silver haired boy stared at her in shock. "Why?"
She smiled and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I think your silver hair is pretty."
Her Father called for her again.
Quickly, the girl took off the beads that hung around her neck and placed them in the boy's hands.
"Daddy told me that these beads would protect me and give me courage...but I think you need them more."
The boy smiled shyly. "Thank you."
She nodded and ran towards her Father, turning around to wave goodbye.
The boy slipped the beads around his neck.
Her big blue eyes would remain engraved in his mind until the day they met again.
