I was merely roaming my lands with my young, ningen ward, Rin and my annoying servant, Jaken, when I happened to have an unfortunate meeting with my disgusting half brother, Inuyasha. I had made a promise long ago that I would never spill another’s blood in Rin’s presence, so I needed to find a way to avoid the inevitable upcoming battle.

“Sesshoumaru!” I nearly sighed at his incompetence. He had already drawn Tetsaiga, our father’s legendary fang, and had it pointing towards my small group. It had become apparent to me awhile ago that no matter what I did, Tetsaiga would never accept me as its owner and thus I had given up on trying to master it and let the stupid hanyou have his way with it. Even so, it nearly hurt my eyes to see the way the half-breed clumsily handled the ancient weapon, he is truly undeserving of it.

The human miko Inuyasha called “Kagome” stepped forward. “Inuyasha! How can you be so blind?!? You’re pointing your sword directly toward a child!” Inuyasha simply rolled his eyes and slung the now transformed fang over his shoulder. “Feh, if you weren’t so hung up over the fact that some by-standers might get hurt during a battle, we might not get attacked as much.” He turned on his heal and started to walk away, but the women would not let him get even one-step in. The anger in her eyes was apparent to anyone with half a brain, and my brother, of course, does not even have that.

“Oswari!!!” she screamed at the top of her lungs. Inuyasha slammed into the ground, pulled down by the cursed prayer bead necklace that hung about his neck. He was immobilized for the time being and muffled curses could be heard coming from the large hole were Inuyasha had previously stood.

After the insubordination of my brother had been dealt with, I allowed myself to observe the group. There were, besides the miko, a young monk and a female demon slayer. In addition, there was the small fox kit that seemed to have created a motherly figure out of the miko.

Suddenly, I could sense another presence other than the ones before my eyes. The smell of a female hanyou drifted into the air, and for some odd reason, I recognized it. “Rin, go with Jaken and hide in the woods.” I hesitantly unsheathed my sword, Tokijin, as my ward and servant escaped quickly into the forest. Inuyasha had recovered by now and his group, lead by him, prepared for, what we thought was, the oncoming threat, whom was moving towards our position with great speed.
Though, I could not place the scent in my mind, I did remember that it belonged to someone powerful, someone influential, someone…

The hanyou ran around the bend in the road and time seemed to freeze. For the first time in 200 years, I, the Great Sesshoumaru, let my mask of indifference slip. Tokijin slipped from my grasp and dropped to the ground with a clang of metal. My jaw quickly following suit, my mouth hanging open slightly.

I stood there a moment, stupefied. However, the attentions of everyone suddenly turned to me in reflex to the sound of my sword crashing to the ground, and there their eyes rudely remained, staring with an astonishment at my showing, however slight, of emotion. At the time I could care less because standing no more than twenty yards away from me was, was, was…

I lost my train of thought as she turned her crystal blue eyes on me, and gasped, bringing her hand up to her face as she flushed with recognition of me. “M-M-M Master…” she seemed equally unable to complete her thoughts, when, being his usual self, Inuyasha rudely broke the uneasy feeling hung in the air, “What the hell is going on here?!?” I quickly composed myself, ignoring Inuyasha. “Kodora…” I took half a step forward, holding out my arms to her, when Kodora’s tear strained face came running at me. She wrapped her arms around me and I pulled her into a close embrace. She buried her face into my chest, getting my haroi wet with her tears. I held her close, breathing in her pure, smooth strawberry sent. I was near crying myself, but I had already given enough of my dignity away and could not lower myself any further.

She turned her head up so that she could look me in the eye whilst still holding me in her death grip, “Fluffy, I thought that I would never see you again,” she said with a sad smile on her face, creating ripples in her rivers of tears. I had already replaced my mask of indifference and looked down at her, “How many times do I have to tell you, not to call me that?” I had placed no emotion in my voice, yet she only broadened her smile knowingly and replaced her face in my shirt. “Kodora, my sweet child, why did you so wildly come barreling down the path like a rabid animal?”

“Oh, Master, Shaekaku has been chasing me for miles now. He seems terribly angry, and you of all people know what’s happening tomorrow.” My eyes widened a fraction. Tomorrow was the Winter Solstice, the day of the year in which all of the demon blood would leave her body; she would become a common ningen. Moreover, Shaekaku was no pushover; he was Lord of the Southern Lands, and a powerful demon. He was of mixed blood. His father was a full-blooded wolf youkai and his mother was a blend of both fox and dog youkai blood. I could feel an on-coming youkai, but it was at the edge of my range of senses and that was a far ways away. “You seem to have gotten quite a lead on him.”

Kodora stepped out of our embrace and turned her back to me. “He’s only keeping away until tomorrow, and then he’ll start hunting me down for real.” Inuyasha furrowed his brow; I knew he had never seen another inu hanyou before much less a female, one. “Who are you?” he questioned her, his group relaxing but not yet releasing their fighting stances. She turned and seemed to realize suddenly that there where people here, other than us. She looked at him confused and slightly tilted her head to one side; “I am Kodora, Sesshoumaru-sama’s daughter.”

Inuyasha’s group was temporarily stunned by this information before she continued, “Well…his adoptive daughter anyways. He took me in once my mother perished; I was only four years old at the time.” Her eyes darkened slightly at the memory. Kagome walked forward, “Ohiyo, my name in Kagome. I’m the protector of the Shikon no Tama, which unfortunately is broken into pieces as of now.” She blushed a bit and scratched the back of her head, obviously embarrassed.

I had heard rumors that the careless miko was the one that had broken the jewel, but this was the first proof I had that it was true. Kodora’s eyes widened with understanding, Oh, you mean these?” She reached into the hem of her kimono and pulled out three shards of the sacred jewel. The entire group collectively gasped, “Yes.” They were amazed that she possessed the pieces; the miko must have been too distracted to sense them.

“Oh, well if you’re questing for them than you can have them. I have no use for them.” She tossed the glimmering pieces to Kagome, whom easily caught them, and turned back to me, “Can you allow me to travel with you for a while? The Lord of the Southern Lands is not the happiest of demons with me right now.”
“Of coarse,” I replied, turning and heading into the forest were Rin and Jaken were concealed. She jogged up to meet me, and followed close behind.
Inuyasha’s group was left bewildered, staring at our backs as we left.

okay, this is just the beginning...
