Chapter One: A Desperate Plea
Kagura licked at the bead of salty sweat as it rolled off her blood red lips. She struggled to keep her haggard breath steady, as she twisted painfully in her bonds. The cursed chains that Naraku had used to shackle her to the wall grinded into the tender skin of her wrists and ankles. A shadow loomed over her, and Kagura choked out a tired cry.
“Kagura.”
The voice was emotionless, saying her name as if he were stating a fact. Naraku watched his child squirm, relishing in her discomfort.
“Now then,” He knelt down, grasping Kagura’s slender chin in his pale, clawed hand, “You won’t fail me again, will you?”
An intense blare of heat radiated from the chains, scorching her kimono and the back of her neck. Kagura bit down on her lower lip, desperately trying to quell the howl of anguish inside her. Naraku turned her face upward to look at him.
“Next time I send you on a mission, I expect you to complete it.” Naraku ended his sentence in a growl, and ripped his hand away from her face, scratching a long red line down the line of her jaw in the process. It blazed for a moment, and then faded slightly, mingling with the rest of the wounds Naraku had given her in this little chat. Naraku stood, apparently satisfied. Kagura starred at the ground, holding back hot tears. She heard the heavy, wooden door open, and then slam with a defiance. Only when the sound of Naraku’s footsteps had long since faded did Kagura allow the sobs to take her, racking her body and stealing her breath.
The heat from the chains ceased, and they fell away from her, dropping to the ground in a loud clatter. Kagura brought her knees to her chest, and gently rubbed the red markings on her wrists. Why did Naraku treat only her in this way? He had never done such things to Kanna or Muso. Did he know of the secret darkness in her heart? The way she spent nights imagining his death? She had never yet done anything to let him now of her feelings. So why did he do this to her? Why did he encourage her hate? No matter what, she promised her-self, I WILL be the one to kill you! But she couldn’t do it alone. Kagura knew this, and could admit it to herself, if only just. She needed to find help.
She looked at the window high above her. The bars looked sturdy, but no match for dance of the dragons. Kagura thought of the risks in leaving, coming to her decision in a matter of minutes. One hand went to the feather in her hair, the other to the fan at her waist.
Far away from Naraku’s castle, and the troubles inside it, a young girl of eight was sipping her soup contentedly. The sweetie known as Rin looked up at her Lord, and a frown formed on her delicate features.
“Sesshomaru-sama?” Rin spoke softly, and tugged gently on his robes, “Aren’t you hungry?”
Sesshomaru cast a glance down at his tiny ward, and the steaming contents of the bowl she held up to him.
“Not now, Rin.” He didn’t smile as you should when offered with something, but his voice was soft and his hand gentle as he pushed the bowl away. Rin nodded and put the bowl down on a nearby rock. She looked over her shoulder at the sound of furious slurping. Jaken was sitting cross-legged on the ground, devouring the soup Rin had made. Rin giggled at the sight. The sound floated past Sesshomaru, and the slightest form of a smile, flickered across his lips. It was gone in an instant, but the sound of Rin's laughter was still there, and Sesshomaru wondered at the power of it.
The laughter faded as Rin looked up to see a disturbed Ah’Uh. He was sniffing and shaking his head. Rin frowned, confused, and reached up a soothing hand to calm her friend. Ah’Uh whimpered, and Sesshomaru followed the beast’s gaze upward to the sky. His demon eyes picked up a trace of movement, and a blast of wind suddenly flew at the four of them, brining a familiar scent along with it.
“Rin.” Sesshomaru called to the perplexed child, motioning for her to hide. Sesshomaru turned his cool eyes up, and watched long feather descend out of the red tinted clouds. A female figure leapt from her ride, landing in a regal stance, eyes boldly starring into those of Sesshomaru.
“Kagura.” Was Sesshomaur’s cold welcome. Kagura smirked at him, tossing a cursory glance at Rin’s orange profile, protectively sheltered behind the massive Ah’Uh.
“Evening, Sessy.” Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed, and a growl emanating from deep in his throat. Kagura realized her mistake and quickly backtracked.
“My lord Sesshomaru!” Kagura said smoothly, her sly smile working it’s way onto her wind burned face. “I have a proposition for you.”
“There is nothing you have to offer me.”
“I can give you the sword, Tetsiaga!” Kagura boasted, unable to hide her excitement. Inside, Sesshomaru mentally widened his eyes, but his exterior remained unattached and passive.
“Those are high claims.” Sesshomaru challenged, “But I doubt there is any truth in them.”
“OH, but there is!” Kagura’s smile widened, her voice taking on a tone of hysteria, “All I ask is that you help me to kill Naraku.”
At this, Sesshomaru allowed his physical eyes to widen, scarcely believing the words. “ I have no interest in dispensing with Naraku. I can claim the sword of my father on my own.” Kagura’s crooked smile disappeared, replaced by a look of disappointment and anger.
“Pity.” She said with emotionless eyes, and a calm voice, “I didn’t know you were such a coward.” Her eyes darted to where a flicker of motion had caught her attention.
Jaken bounded out from behind Ah’Uh, shaking with rage. “How dare you speak to Lord Sesshomaru like that?” He demanded in that extremely annoying voice of his. Kagura observed him coolly, then in a sudden flash of movement, she reached out and grabbed Jaken by the neck! Clasping his frail, wriggling body to her, she surveyed Sesshomaru with eyes that sparkled dangerously.
“Now, my dear lord,” She began in dramatic tones. Sesshomaru held her gaze calmly, but from off to the side Rin's small gasp could be heard. “You will swear to me you assistance.” She tightened her hold on Jaken's neck and raised him above the ground, “Or I will kill him.”
Jaken's eyes were bulging out of his head, saliva painted his lips, and his warted face shook with fear. Sesshomaru looked at the terrified being before him in disgust.
“hm. If you must”
“What?” Kagura demanded.
“Kill him.”
Jaken would have gasped if Kagura hadn’t been blocking off his air passage, but his wide eyes said enough.
“You...you don’t care?” Kagura was completely stumped by this, her brilliant plan failed. Sesshomaru felt a tug on his kimono, and he saw Rin had moved over to him.
“Do you really not care?” Rin whispered, half afraid to hear the answer.
“She will not kill him.” He assured Rin.
“How can you know?” The little girl whispered boldly.
“Because she is weak at heart.”
Unfortunately for Jaken, Kagura heard Sesshomaru’s remark, and she spat angrily.
“Weak at heart? What the hell do you know about such things?” Kagura felt her vision blur from water, and she squeezed Jaken's neck harder, her hands shaking. Jaken tried to call out to his master, to plea for his life…but all he could manage was a gurgle and gagging sound.
“Oh please, Sesshomaru-sama!” Sesshomaru looked down at the sound of Rin’s voice. He met her gaze and sucked in a breath. Her beautiful face was contorted in concern, and her eyes glistened with tears.
“Don’t let her hurt Jaken! Please Sesshomaru!” Sesshomaru starred into her deep brown eyes, trying with all his might not to show anything. But inside he was melting. He lowered his eyelids, black lashes contrasting sharply against his pale cheeks.
“If you wish.” He turned to face Kagura, any sign of the weakness he had just felt gone. “Release Jaken and I will help you.”
Kagura eyed him warily, “You give me you word?”
“I do.”
Slowly, one finger at a time, Kagura released her hold on Jaken. The small demon hit the ground running. Scrambling up to Sesshomaru, he knelt down, clutching his lord’s robes.
“Oh thank you lord Sesshomaru thank you you are to kind thankyou so much” Jaken Continued to ramble on and Sesshomaru promptly ignored him.
“I plan to take Naraku’s life on the night of the full moon, when he is weakened by the human in him. All I need you to do is deal with my siblings. I will Kill Naraku.” Sesshomaru nodded his understanding, and Kagura reached a hand to her hair.
“I hold you to your word, lord Sesshomaru, betray me and I will personally see to Jaken and the young girls death!” And with that final warning, Kagura disappeared with the wind.
So what do you all think so far? I know it kind of sounds unoriginal, but it will get better! And unexpected things will happen! But please don’t expect a sessy/rin lemon (I like them as a father/daughter relationship) cuz it’s NOT gonna happen! Just lots of other great stuff! Read and REVIEW!!!!
