A promise is to be kept always

Sesshomaru walked the familiar path he had walked 15 years ago, he didn't know what compelled him to go this way. It was somthing he remembered but hadn't thought about in a long time....a promise that he intended to keep.
As he walked out of the shadow of trees he saw that half the town lay in ruins and his interest was piqued.
"I wonder what calamity has befallen here...."
He stated walking slowly and glaring about cautiously with his cold emotionless eyes. He only barely stopped himself from staggering at the stench, it was the smell of fresh blood and old corpses. He sniffed the air lightly and found where the smell came from. He walked toward it and another smell hit his nose, Trolls.
"So this is the calamity that that I seek."
He was making his way to where the demons were when something caught his eye. Someone was beside him in the bushes. Swifter than any human could see he unsheathed his sword and held it against the humans neck.
"You where following me, why?" He looked at the human girl noting how strange she was. She had long dark red hair and bright brownish-grey eyes. She was wearing a short style kimono that looked tattered and old. It had blood smeared on the bottom. He paid closer attention to her face and it looked like she hadn't washed in awhile. His eyes came to rest on a necklace that she was wearing. It was a gold chain with a flower like pendant. He knew the pendant, he recognised it at once.

~Flashback~

He was sitting cross-legged beside a small lake, his face was slightly red. He had just witnessed what he thought was a celestial bathing. She had long red hair and beautifully strange eyes. Her complexion was similar to his, as if she had never been out in the sun. When she had seen him she hadn't ducked under the water and screamed like a frightened little girl, even though she was young.
"Oh! excuse me sir, but could you turn around while I finish bathing?"
He had quickley obliged his face going a shade redder. When she was finished and had her kimono fastened she had come and tapped him on the shoulder. He had looked up into those strange eyes and almost sighed at her beauty.
"Thank you!" She had said sitting beside him.
"Why do you thank me? When I came upon you bathing?" He had asked, truly bewildered for once.
" Instead of leaving you stayed here and made sure no one else came....it was really nice of you!" She smiled and opened the package she had with her.
"You want some fish? I live at the fishers village and I would gladly give you some!" She held out a fish to him and he accepted it. They had sat there in silence, enjoying ones company.
"What is your name?" Sesshomaru had asked still surprised that he was talking to a human.
"My name is Amaya, it means Night Rain. What's your name?"
"My name?.....My name is Sesshomaru, it means Destruction of the circle of life..." After that the silence fell again.
"I must go, promise to come see me at the village later?" He nodded and she walked off. He waited there for at least a half an hour. then he heard the screams.
"That sounds like...No it can't be..." He ran as fast as he could, when he got to where the screams where coming from he saw somthing that made his blood boil. His new friend Amaya was lying on the ground her kimono half of and had 3 men surounding her, one he noted was a demon. He walked up his eyes turning red.
"I suppose you have some reason for hurting my young friend here?" He said as the men watched him approach.
"Leave off! This isn't your buissness!" Said the first man. The demon who was kneeling beside her laughed.
"Did we steal your prey? I must admit though, she's pretty good at sucking!, Especially when you hit her." He smacked her and she started to sob. Sesshomaru couldn't take it anymore. He changed to full demon and killed them slowly making sure the acid ate them all the way through.
When he was finished he tended to Amaya. As he picked her up and held her in his arms she looked so small. On the way to the healer she fell asleep.

When the healer had finished tending to Amaya, he let Sesshomaru in to see her.
"Sesshomaru..you saved me......thank you..." He looked at her she seemed to be o.k but he could still smell blood. " It was my duty, as a friend....." That wasn't what he had wanted to say, yet years of being cold denied him of anything else he could have said. At that moment he felt helpless, and alone. "Sesshomaru?" She asked her voice soft and kind. "Yes, Amaya?" He was worried and hoped that she wasn't going to leave him. "Will you always protect me?" His eyes went wide, he had never protected anyone, he had never needed to before. He caught himself and nodded. "If you ever do need help, this will call to me...." He put the necklace around her neck. It was made from a pearl and was shaped like a lily flower.

~Flashback~
He leaned down and stare straight into her eyes.
"Where did you get this?" She looked away because his eyes where hard to stare at. "Is that really you Amaya?" She looked up at him in shock and surprise. "My name is Amaya.......and you.....Are my sesshomaru!" She smiled and got up as he put the sword away. "Sesshomaru, I've been waiting for you to come and help me....for three years...." Her eyes had gone cold and she looked at him angrily with tears gracing her eyes. "Where were you when i needed you?"

Uh oh! Someone got mad at Sesshy, we'll just have to see how he handle's it in the next chapter....
