Instinct

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any other characters in this story. Wish I did though.

In this story I made Inuyasha a full demon. But I kept his cute ears, I didn't have the heart to change his features. I hope you enjoy this story.

A/N: As you know I found a beta for this story. Well even with her busy schedule she still found time to edit this chapter. Tygerlily thank you so much! :)

Chapter One--
Fleeting

Kagome ran with all her might, her blood stained shirt torn viciously and blood seeped from the slight lashes that bestowed both her arms and legs. She could still feel the burning sensation in both her shoulders, from the puncture wounds they created. Adrenaline laced her being, but she could not stop even though she could feel her body tiring.

‘Where do I go?’ she thought, franticly. She hoped to find some shelter, yet it was too dark to see!

Kagome suddenly sensed two demons approaching her-- at an alarming rate. Her conformation was correct when she heard the snapping of tree branches off in the distance—and they way the branches broke; she knew they were displeased. Her heart was pumping rapidly, she could feel it constricting tightly in her chest-- making it difficult to breathe. In addition, her legs became weak and heavy with every painful stride, but she couldn’t stop. Determined to fight her fatigue, she mentally forced herself to carry on!

The two silver-haired demons stopped, sniffing the brisk night air. Fixated on the enticing scent of their fleeing prey, sniffing the air they continued in the direction in which she fled.

“We’ll find her soon, dear brother, and then soon we will finish claiming what is ours!” Sesshomaru stated, as his long silver hair whipped around his tall frame.

‘What did I do to deserve this?’ Kagome asked herself. ‘I just want to go home!’

Even with her priestess training, Kagome was unable to mask her scent. She knew they would not stop pursuing her. The marks marring both her shoulders were an indication of that! Her body had finally given out causing her to collapse onto the ground. She felt as if her lungs themselves where on fire, as spicy tears continued to slip down her cheeks.

“I will fight them with all my might, even if I die tonight, it will not be in vain,” she sobbed while grasping her cramped stomach.

Just as she thought that all hope was lost, she heard a waterfall in the distance.
“Maybe just maybe I can cover my scent with the water,” she said, with satisfaction and a slight gleam of hope.

Hearing the distant sounds of a waterfall in the distance, she decided to run towards the rolling sound emanating from the cascading water, which crashed against the large rocks.

Kagome forced herself on, ‘I can do this…! I can make it!’ she thought, ignoring the cramping in her legs, and the nausea that bestowed her queasy stomach.

Catching her breath, she had finally reached the roaring sounds of the crashing water. Surrounding the falls was a spring, she smiled, it looked deep enough,—she could only hope glancing into murky water, with only the moon reflecting its stilled waves. She dove in not caring how cold the water was, and waited patiently for the predators that were stalking her.

The two brothers stopped, where the girl was just resting; sniffing the air, they caught her scent again… both agitated they continued their hunt towards the spring.
Kagome could hear them getting closer, and sank further into the springs. Hoping to god that they had lost her scent, but knew they could still see her. Therefore, at the right time she submerged herself under the water holding her breath.

They stopped at the base of the springs, sniffing the air again, but her scent was lost. They looked around with their golden eyes, surveying the area.

‘Oh gods, how long are they going to stand there?’ she thought while trying not to let any little air bubbles slip to the surface, only to expose her hiding spot.

Grateful for the moons bright luminous glow, she watched the two stoic demons looking around for her. A sigh of relief hit her when she saw them look at each other with confusion on their faces. They continued the chase away from her hiding spot. Slowly making the contact for air, careful not too disturbed the wave less water.

“Oh that was close,” she sighed, still cautious of the surrounding areas.

She reached out with her spiritual powers, and confirmed they where long gone. Still hesitant about getting out of the water, looking around she noticed there was a cave behind the waterfall.

“This will be good to spend the night in,” she smiled, heading toward the mouth of the cave’s entrance.

“Oh hell Sesshomaru, we lost her now what?” Inuyasha snapped! Upon gazing up at his older brother, he noticed that his face was emotionless, and strangely in deep thought. ‘Did this girl confuse the almighty Sesshomaru?’ Only time would tell.

“Mind yourself whelp, we will continue are search in the morning, lets make camp and get some rest.” Sesshomaru said gripping his clawed hands into a fist.

The two Lords gathered wood and started a fire. Inuyasha wanted to release some pent up frustration and decided to go hunting. He soon returned from his hunt successful. Plopping the two dead boars down from his shoulder, he then placed them next to the fire. The two brothers would eat well tonight, and then continue their search for the girl in the morning.

“I need to find some wood, and make a fire,” she said, heading out of the cave.

With her mission accomplished, she started a fire by rubbing two sticks together. Her hands were burning because of the raw wood which rubbing harshly against her skin. She desperately tried to warm her shivering body. Minutes later, she succeeded. Watching the wood start to smoke, she quickly put some dried twigs on the friction of the wood and a fire was born.

“Thank you god,” she said with a sigh of relief.
