~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“No way in hell!” Inuyasha snarled.
“Inuyasha, you know we need as much help as we can get. Why not ask your brother?” Kagome pleaded. ‘Come on Inuyasha, you know you need his help, and you’ve fought alongside your brother before….’
“NO!”
“Inuyasha..”
“No,” he interrupted. “I won’t hear about it, and that’s that.”
“Inuyasha.”
He cringed his ears flattening on the back of his head, he’d been with Kagome for 3 years and he knew what that note in her voice meant.
“SIT BOY!”
HE crashed to the ground and let out a stream of profanity.
“SIT”
“OW what was that one for?!” He yelled as his body ground deeper into the earth.
“I told you to watch your mouth before, now if you ever want to get up again, swear to me that you’ll at least talk to Sesshoumaru-sama.”
“Talk to me about what.” The impassive voice echoed across the field. Sesshoumaru walked towards them Rin and Jaken leading Ah-Un trailing behind him.
“Lord Sesshoumaru,” Kagome’s voice quivered. She straightened. ‘If Inuyasha won’t do it then I must.’ “We were hoping to discuss a possible alliance with you against Naraku.” She hoped that sounded dignified enough, she knew from previous encounters that Sesshoumaru was a stickler for protocol.
“I have already heard your discussion, which was why I came out to speak with you. I agree to join your group.” His calm stoic voice belayed the impossible.
Kagome and Sango both gasped in surprise. They had agreed that it was necessary to at least ask for his help, but they only dreamed he would agree to it.
“Well if you already heard us you know that I said no way in hell, Sesshoumaru,” Inuyasha growled as he peeled himself from the ground and flipped onto his feet. “And why the fuck would you want to join with us? Besides trying to kill us and steal tetsuiga.”
“Don’t be an ignorant fool, Inuyasha.” Sesshoumaru walked into their campsite but stopped when Inuyasha pulled out tetsuiga. “You know that we stand a better chance at defeating Naraku if we fight together. Even this Sesshoumaru knows when to put away pride and form alliances.” His eyes narrowed. “Even if it’s with a lowly hanyou and ningens.”
“Watch it,” Inuyasha growled. “Fine” he said at last, “but while you’re with us you swear on Rin’s life that you won’t try to kill us or steal tetsuiga.”
“Agreed, however I want something as payment for assisting you in finding the Shikon shards and attacking Naraku.”
At those words Inuyasha froze. ‘This can’t be good. What could he possibly want?’
“What I want as payment,” Sesshoumaru continued. “Is for the miko to heal my arm.”
“I don’t see anything wrong with it,” Inuyasha jeered. ‘Crap,’ he thought. ‘That’ll take Kagome about a week to recover from. We’ll need a place to stay at while she recovers.’ Even in his thoughts Inuyasha wouldn’t admit that he was pleased his brother joined them. He knew full well that they needed help to bring that bastard down.
“Watch it Hanyou.” Sesshoumaru growled. “I will not take insults from the likes of you.”
“What? You don’t want any jeers from the one who took it off in the first place?” ‘I’m gonna have such fun teasing the shit out of him and he can’t do a damned thing about it.’
“Inuyasha sit.”
“GAH!” Inuyasha slammed into the ground. ‘Damn it, he can’t but she can. Damned wench, can’t she take my side for once?’
“Come here Sesshoumaru-sama” Kagome said as she took a seat beside the fire.
“Oi, wench not too close, we don’t want you falling in the fire,” Inuyasha called from the ground.
“I’m fine,” she yelled back as Sesshomaru sat next to her. “Okay,’ she said. “This is going to hurt a lot.” She put her hands on his shoulder and closed her eyes. Slowly she let her power be summoned up and then cried out as waves of power crashed through her and into Sesshomaru. As she fell into darkness, she hoped Inuyasha would at least be civilized to his brother until she woke up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sounds of swords clanging woke her with a start and Kagome sat straight up. Her head pounded but as she looked around she saw that she was inside a small hut with a fire pit in the center. She felt something slide down her shoulders and looked down and gasped. She was wrapped up in Sesshomaru’s Mokomoko-sama.
“Kagome, you’re awake!” The little kitsune kit cried.
She felt rather than saw the little ball of fir collide with her stomach. She wrapped her arms around the kit and cuddled him closely. “Aww, Shippou you weren’t worried about me were you?” She cooed at him.
“A little,” he said dropping his head remorsefully and looked at her with sad large eyes. He knew his baby looks were still very much present and smiled when Kagome hugged him tighter.
“I guess I can forgive you.” She murmured.
“How are you feeling, Kagome,” Sango asked as she stepped into the hut. The taijiya walked up to her friend and handed her a warm cup of herbal tea.
“I still feel a little drained but much better,” Kagome assured her friend before draining down the cup of tea. “What’s going on out there? Have Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha been fighting again?” Kagome wrinkled her brow. She didn’t want either of them to get hurt fighting each other.
Sango gave an evil grin. “Sesshoumaru’s training Inuyasha,” she laughed evilly. “And he hasn’t been gentle about it either.” Kagome started to snicker at the images appearing in her head. “The first time they trained Sesshoumaru just flat out kicked his ass to show him how much he needed to learn, because Inuyasha was smart mouthing and saying he didn’t need any training.”
“What else has happened,” Kagome asked eagerly. She wanted to know every thing that happened while she was out.
“A lot has happened, Kagome,” the little ball of fur on her chest replied.
“You’ve been out for a week,” Sango shrugged. “One thing is certain, though.” She scooted closer to Kagome. “Sesshoumaru is definantly tying up all the loose ends we had.”
“What do you mean by that?” the younger girl asked.
“Kikyou showed up while you were asleep.”
Kagome’s face darkened and she hung her head a little. “What happened?” she asked softly.
“Sesshoumaru told her to get lost and that if she ever came within three miles of us again he would make hell seem like a picnic in comparison.”
Kagome’s eyes were still hidden behind her bangs when she asked, “What did Inuyasha do?”
“He started to argue with Sesshoumaru, and then got his ass kicked. Sesshoumaru also gave him the worst scolding I’d ever heard. By the time he was finished Inuyasha was in a little ball crying, apologizing over and over to you Kagome.”
Her head shot up. “To me?” She whispered, her eyes wide and shocked.
“Yep, but you won’t believe what happened next.” Sango said looking straight into Kagome’s eyes.
“Sesshoumaru picked up Inuyasha when he was balled up like that and carried him over to the fire and…let him cry himself to sleep in Sesshoumaru’s arms.”
“What?!” Kagome gasped. What the hell had happened to everyone while she was out? It was like the world turning inside out. Sesshoumaru had taken her side and then soothed his hurt brother? ‘Kami-sama,’ she thought. ‘What on earth is going on?’
“I know,” Sango said, shaking her head. “He also kicked the crap out of Miroku for groping me and told the houshi that would teach him some new spells if he didn’t grope anyone for a month and didn’t ask any more women to bear his child.”
Kagome started to giggle, she knew how much this pleased the youkai exterminator. “I guess I could get up for a little while,” She said shrugging out of the warm coverings. She stood up and the taijiya, just looked up at her friend.
“This is going to be so much fun,” she said her voice as serious as she could make it.
Kagome looked at her friend as she rose up to walk with her to the door. “I know,” she said right as she stepped outside. The light blinded her for a moment before she gasped at the sight in front of her. There was a small fire going outside that Miroku was meditating next to, and off in the distance, she could see Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru training. Rather she could see Sesshoumaru beating Inuyasha up and then yelling at him if he stayed on the ground too long. Inuyasha turned his head towards the hut for a second and yelled her name, right before Sesshoumaru slammed him hard into the ground, actually knocking him unconscious. Kagome gasped as she saw Sesshoumaru lift Inuyasha up and sling him over his shoulder and carry him towards camp. He set Inuyasha down gently next to the fire and looked at Kagome.
“Thank you,” he said in his cold impassive voice, his eyes shone briefly in an emotion that Kagome couldn’t quite catch.
“For what?” She asked cocking her head a little to the side in confusion.
“For healing my arm,” he intoned. “And for giving me the chance to know my brother.”
‘Wow,’ Kagome thought. ‘What the heck happened when I healed him? He doesn’t seem so arrogant and condescending any more.’
“Now I know what a complete fool he is.” Sesshoumaru continued looking disdainfully at his brother. “I’m amazed he’s even survived as long as he has.”
‘Well so much for that thought, he still arrogant and condescending but… is he joking and almost teasing Inuyasha?’
Inuyasha stirred and cracked his eyes up at his brother. “What the hell was that for?” he demanded.
“I decided to finish early today.” Sesshoumaru announced.
“Sesshoumaru-sama,” Kagome’s voice quivered a little. “Do you always knock him out when you’re finished?” She asked.
“Every damned time,” Inuyasha growled as he sat up.
“Since you are now awake miko, I need to return to take care of a few things. I will be returning shortly, and with my retainer and ward.”
“All right, Sesshoumaru-sama. I think we’ll probably be at Kaede’s village when you return.”
“You’re not going home again are you?” The little kitsune whined.
“I was running out of supplies last week Shippou. Now I’m betting that all the Ramen has been eaten,” she glared at Inuyasha who lowered his ears and gave a guilty smile. “And that you’ve eaten everything else,” she looked sternly at the kit who gave her an innocent smile.
“Well, I had to eat.” The kit said innocently. Kagome just shook her head and sighed.
“Why do I not simply meet the rest of you at your home miko?” Sesshoumaru asked frowning at his confusion. He didn’t think that Kagome lived with the old miko.
“It’s complicated.” Kagome said shaking her head. “We’ll explain everything and tell you what’s happened so that you’ll understand.”
“Very well,” Sesshoumaru growled letting them know that he would not drop this and would hear every word of explanations. “Until three days from now,” he said as he formed the cloud beneath his feet and sailed off leaving the rest of them watching him go.
Sudden movement behind them caused them to spin around, and then laugh. The mokomoko-sama had unraveled itself from the other wrappings and was now sailing after Sesshoumaru’s disappearing figure.
“Hah, stupid ass forgot his tail,” Inuyasha said smugly.
“Inuyasha sit, boy,” Kagome yelled.
“What the hell was that for?” Inuyasha yelled himself spluttering dirt out of his mouth.
“Osuwari,” Kagome said again this time more calmly. “I said no more swearing Inuyasha and I meant it. If Sesshoumaru’s bringing that sweet little girl of his along with us, he’ll do a lot worse than *sit* you.” Inuyasha gagged as he ate dirt again, Kagome just went inside to gather and pack everything up.
Oh ya, I don’t own Inuyasha or Sesshoumaru *sniff* *sniff*
