Lonely Battles

Kagome sat in a forest clearing, fingering the completed Sacred jewel. She sighed 'today is the day' she thought 'the day where I leave the fudal era and all my friends behind. This will all be a memory soon, and I will finally get to live a normal life' she sighed again. It had been five long years. Naraku was finally dead, revenge had been taken for Songo's village, Miroku's wind tunnel curse had been lifted, Shippo's family had been avenged, and as for her, well, that was a different story.
A rustling came from the bushes behind her, and out popped the arrogant, jerk, hanyou who had stolen her heart. His eyes had soffened since she had met him. He trusted and became friends with her and their group members. He belonged with them, with her, but I guess he didn't see that. She had loved him for quite a while now, but she knew she wouldn't end up with him, he loved Kikyou, the dead priestess. He owed her his life. She stood and walked over to the half demon, gripping the jewel tighter with every step she took. Stopping in front of him, she stared into his hypnotizing amber eyes, then gave a tug at the thin silver chain the held the jewel, and snapped it from her neck. She used her free hand to grab one of the clawed hands that hung by his side. Placing the smooth object into his palm, curling his fingers around it.
"Take it" she said softly, look away from him, "It belongs to you, now make your wish, and become a full fledged demon" glassy eyes made slight contact with his own, he could smell the unshed tears. "Like you always wanted." Kagome gave him a small sad smile, and took a step back. Inuyasha said nothing, he was speechless, he just stood there staring at the glowing orb. Finally he spoke after a long silence,
"After all this your giving it to me?" he said confused. "You can't give it to me, now it's *your* duty to protect the Sacred jewel." he said eagerly, hoping and praying that she was not doing what he thought she was. She shook her head sadly then whispered, choking back sobs, "I can't and you know this as well. I have to return to my time, the shards are all collected, what reason would I have for coming back here anymore. My job was to get the jewel back together in one piece, and now that job it done." her eyes were shaddowed by her bags, but Inuyasha already knew what she looked like right then, her tears said it all.
"No reason! You don't have even *one* pathetic reason to keep visiting. Is Songo not a good enough reason?! Or how about Shippo, and Miroku?! Am I not a good enough reason for you to stay here? he whispered the last part. Slowly lifting her head she peered at him through her bangs.
"You know I can't stay here, I have a family, a life, in my own time!" she yelled at him through the curtain of blurry tears clouding her vision. "And besides..." she wispered queitly in a quivering voice, "I can't let you continue to hurt me like you have. I have given you tust, friendship, and.....love, but I all I got from you was heartache, and tears." She turned on her heel, parted some bushes, and stepped out into the clearing right next to the magical well. Resting one knee on the lip, she pulled herself onto the edge, the toes of her shoes were hovering over the well, only her heels dug into the ancient wood of the portal through time. Scanning the surrounding beauty that she so loved, and she remembered the painful goodbyes she had said to her friends early that moring. Tears streaked her porcelian skin, dripping from her chin in salty drops. All the advetures she had had flashed in front of her watery eyes, along with all her precious friends faces, smiling they greeted her memories, one by one. A slight tap on her forearm brought her back to the world where fate ruled everything. She stared down at Inuyasha's face, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. The dominant emotion was a mix between betrayal, and hurt.
"Please don't go?" he all but whimpered.
"I'm sorry but I have to..." she said with more tears in her eyes, "I'm sure we'll meet again someday" before she could jump into the well one last time, or even say something, he pulled her into an embrace, never wanting to let go.
"Inuyasha, I would stay but, if I do I can never see my family again, the well will seal over once I'm gone but I'll always be with you, even if it's only in spirit. I made a promise and I will keep it, not even time can break our bond." she gave him a chaste kiss on the cheek, stepped onto the lip of the well, turned to see his face one last time, held his hand and took a step backwards, disappearing into a flash of blue light. The last thing she heard Inuyasha say is,
"I will wait here, you will find me" before she could not hear his voice anymore, he was gone.
