Miko... Kitsune?

Prologue

The night hung ominously over the clearing, a dry well at the center of it. No noise came from the forest, none had come since the sun had set. A small girl, no older than ten, watched from the shadows, dressed in the robes of a miko, her brown eyes watching in wonder as a figure, clutching a small bundle, staggered towards the well. The child walked forward, running to the figure’s aid as they fell, cerulean colored hair flowing long behind them.

“Are you alright?” the girl asked softly.

The figure looked down at the child supporting them. “Hai, young miko, I am. Ye are Kikyo, are ye not?” she asked, her emerald eyes boring down at the child.

The girl nodded. “Hai, and you are the kitsune sorceress, Miya, sister of the Lord of the East.”

The kitsune nodded, her blue tail moving around the cold child. “Hai. I ask you, child, a great favor.”

“Hai, mistress?”

“I need your blood to help bind the illusion I cast upon this young one,” she said as she unwrapped the bundle. A small kitsune, no older than six, lay in her arms. The girl’s white hair was a shock of brightness in the dark of the night, the lone streak of lavender in her hair, indicator of great power.

Kikyo gasped. “A white kitsune! I heard they were but legends, mistress!”

Miya smiled. “A rare breehis his is the child of my brother, who is under siege by a dark creature. He wishes to protect this one by sending her into the future. But I need to keep her seemingly human until the day comes that she can return. I ask ye, will you help me?”

Kikyo nodded. “Hai, Miya-sama. I would be much honored. I will give her some of my blood and a fraction of my soul to bind her until the time comes.”

Miya smiled and watched as the young priestess glowed pink for a moment and the child in her arms transformed into a human, her hair turning black, her tail and ears vanishing as a pair of human ears appeared. “I thank ye, Kikyo. Though I know my time is leaving, I will, in repayment for your kindness, tell you your future.”

Kikyo nodded and waited patiently.

“You will come upon the Shikon no Tama in your future, you must protect it at all costs, but do not forget your heart. The hanyou son of the Western Lord, do not let his demeanor fool you. He will have a great future ahead of him, help him learn to open his heart. No matter what tragedy befall you, never forget that a true heart only speaks truths and a lying heart will show through the eyes of those that are cruel.”

Kikyo seemed puzzled but nodded. “I shall remember. Arigato, Miya-sama.”

Miya bowed to the young priestess, “Arigato, Kikyo.”

Higurashi Hika silently swept the steps of the Higarashi Shrine. Her priestess garb swishing slightly as she moved. She had lost her beloved husband recently in an attack on the shrine. Her beloved Hiroto had been killed in a car accident, leaving her alone with her father and her unborn son within her womb. She would live on though. If not for herself, than for her child.

She smiled as she began to hum a tune to herself as she passed the well house. Suddenly, a glow came from the old hut and a wounded kitsune female stumbled to her feet. Hika gasped and ran to the kitsune’s side.

“Miko, I ask a favor of great importance of you,” the kitsune gasped.

Hika nodded. “Hai, kitsune-sama, I shall. What would this favor be?”

Miya smiled and pressed her precious bundle into Hika’s arms. “Protect this treasure. For she is heir to thst. st. She is special, miko-sama, her future lies in the past, her past will lie here in the future. She must not know her origins until the night rain comes.”

“What is her name, kitsune-sama?” Hika asked.

Miya smiled and felt her soul readying for the next world. “Kagome.”

Inu:You've kept us locked in that damned closet for long enough! Time for us to come out! I mean, you let Sango and Naraku out for that one-shot!
Sess: Am I in this one?
Levii: @.@ open the door a crack and they come forth!
Inu: So you guys better review! I don't want to stay in that freaking closet with Sesshomaru here anymore!
Sess: You aren't my favorite person here, either, half breed.
