Prologue
Behind Your Eyes
By Blood’s Fire
Kagome shifted uncomfortably in the car seat. Mother was gazing bleary-eyed out the wind shield, clutching a map in one hand. Sota was snoozing quietly, his face tearstained. When Jii-san died, we all felt it.
Kagome shivered, drawing her legs up to her chest. She missed grandpa more than ever. Grandpa had been her best friend... her only friend. Gazing out the window, Kagome watched the lights flash past. Her mother yawned.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to drive, mom? It’s still an hour ‘till the airport.” Kagome asked, concerned.
“Oh no, honey, I can manage. Besides, you just got your license.”
“I’ve had my permit for two years, mom.” Kagome said kindly. “Really, I can drive.”
“I jusn’t n’t want you getting us in an accident.” Her mother said sharply. Kagome knew that this was the end of the conversation. Looking back into the lights, Kagome thought what life could be like in Japan. She had visited only twice, and life seemed reasonably normal. People there were pressed, though. Views of being polite are completely different.
Kagome sighed and let her eyelids droop before gazing at the electric clock in the car. 11:35...
‘Better get some sleep while I can....’
--------------------------------
Kagome felt the car slow to a stop. Squinting against the glare of florescent lights, she knew they had arrived at the airport. She and Sota scrambled to help with the small luggage. All of the other items were packed away in boxes, traveling on a cargo ship. Heaving the bag up onto her back, she helped Sota and her mother into the swinging doors. A man came to pick up thier rental. Kagome remembered that thier modest honda was on the ship as well. Thier father had left quite a sum of money, and they were trying to save as much of it as possible. Kagome’s mother kept bugging her to get a job as well as go to college.
“Kagome! Where are you going?!” Kagome shook her head as her mother called over to her. She had almost entered the wrong gate.
It took nearly two hours to get the boarding passes, the bag checks and foodfood all settled, and Kagome was soon approaching the large jet that would take her from her home. She held Sota’s hand when she saw his begin to cry.
“We’ll visit again, I pomise.” Kagome smiled at her mother. “Lets go.”
Together, the three family members walked through the large door and out of California.
To Be Continued....
That was a prologue to get you ready for the fic, I’ll try to post a couple more just to open up the plot.
