Goodbye to Us: Chapter 1
Kagome just kept running, barely watching where she was going because of
the tears in her eyes. Inuyasha had made his choice and now she was left
to pick up the pieces. She finally came to a halt at the well, praying
that Inuyasha wasn’t following her. Kagome dropped to her knees on the
ground and just let the tears come. Her heart felt like it had been
shattered into a million pieces. There seemed no end to the hurt. Kagome
looked up at the crescent moon and took some comfort in the moonlight. She
stood up, wiping her eyes with her sleeve and headed toward the well. She
put her hands on the edge and said a silent goodbye to her friends, whom
she would miss greatly. She would be back soon and she would be strong
enough to be able to get the Shikon shards on her own and defeat Naraku
without the help of anyone, especially Inuyasha.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Inuyasha punched a tree and continued on his way to the village. He should
have sensed that Kagome was there, watching what was going on between him
nd Kikyo, she had a knack for seeing them together. He had made his choice
and Kagome would have to accept that, even though he hated seeing that look
of sadness and betrayal in her eyes. Despite having made
his choice, Inuyasha knew that he needed her. He needed her friendship. But
what if she never came back. Inuyasha sd and and hung his head as he began
to actually think of a life without Kagome.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kagome climbed up the well ladder and exited the well house, making her way
in the dark across the shrine grounds towards her home. There was a single
light on downstairs. Her mom was probably up late working on something,
always making things easier for when she came back from the Feudal Era. Kagome
stopped and looked at her house when she noticed a shadow looming over her.
It was the Sacred Tree (I‘m not sure what it is exactly called. Gomen.) The
place where she first saw Inuyasha. Where her adventure first began. Kagome
walked over to the tree and placed her hand on the trunk. Her heart is aching
for her to run back to him but, she forced herself to remain where she was as
the tears came back. Ayame Higurashi noticed her daughter’s form outside and
she went out to see what was wrong. Kagome barely noticed her mother was there
until she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around to face her mother
and fell immediately into her arms, crying her eyes out. Ayame simply stroked
her daughter’s hair and whispered comforting words to her daughter in an effort
to calm her as Kagome sobbed and shook in her arms.
“What’s wrong, Kagome? What happened?” asked Ayame. She had known for
sometime that Kagome was in love with Inuyasha, even though Kagome hadn’t known
for herself. She could tell by certain things in both Kagome and Inuyasha’s
mannerisms towards each other and by Kagome’s story of how Inuyasha had gotten
jealous of any other guy that came near her.
“Can we talk about inside, Mom?” replied Kagome, sniffling.
“Of course. I’ll fix some tea for both of us and you can tell what has
got you so upset” said Ayame. Ayame took Kagome’s pack off of her and wrapped
an arm around Kagome’s shoulder as they walked inside. They walked into the
kitchen and Ayame set the pack down and began making the tea while Kagome sat
down at the kitchen table. Ayame sarossross from her.
“So, what’s the matter, Kagome?” asked Ayame.
“Well, you know how I told you about how Kikyo was resurrected and how
Inuyasha can’t seem to keep away from her, right?” said Kagome.
“Yes, I remember” said Ayame.
“He finally has made a choice and it was her. And now, I feel like my
heart has shattered into a million pieces. Why do I feel this way?” saagomagome.
“Well, isn’t iviouvious, Kagome, you’re in love with Inuyasha” responded
Ayame.
“What? I don’t love Inuyasha. C’mon, Mom, that’s ridiculous” said Kagome.
“Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be feeling this way. I remember
when I was with your father, any time another girl would go near him, I would get
so angry and he would be the same if another guy came near me. That’s how I know”
Said Ayame as she watched Kagome take in everything she had just said. Kagome
watched as her mom got up to fix the tea.
‘I don’t love Inuyasha. That’s impossible’ thought Kagome.
“Kagome, sweetie, why don’t you go to bed and we’ll talk more tomorrow.
You need to sleep” said Ayame, handing her a cup of tea.
“Thanks Mom. I think I will go to bed. Maybe things will make sense
in the morning” said Kagome, taking the cup, grabbing her pack and heading
upstairs with her mother trailing behind her.
“Good Night. I love you. Don’t worry about being too noisy. Sota is at
a friend’s and Grandpa went on his vacation. You can listen to some of your music
quietly if it‘ll help calm you down” said Ayame.
“Thanks Mom. I love you too. I might just do that” Said Kagome as she
gave her mom a hug and went into her room. She walked over to her stereo and put
in her Michelle Branch CD that was next to it. Skipping to the song she liked
most, Kagome started to
prepare for what she was going to do next.
Of all the things I believed in
I just wanna get it over with
Tears from behind my eyes
But I do not cry
Kagome put her pack on her bed and began taking everything out that she thinks
she won’t need. Looking at the stuff on her bed, she held back the tears that
she felt coming.
‘Inuyasha’ thought Kagome.
Counting the days that pass me by
I’ve been searching deep down in my soul
Words that I’m hearing are starting to get old
Feels like I’m starting all over again
The last three years were just pretend
And I said
She walked over to her dresser, opening the top drawer anlledlled out a small
object wrapped in a black silk handkerchief. Kagome knew that the people who
gave this to her would help her become strong like she wanted to be. She felt
like she was saying goodbye to herself as well as saying goodbye to Inuyasha.
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything that I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing I tried to hold on to
Kagome wiped the tears that came as she thought of Inuyasha. She needed to
become a strong person so that she can face Inuyasha or Kikyo and not burst
into tears. She used to like getting lost just thinking about him. But not
anymore. Kagome would just have to get used to living without him.
I used to get lost in your eyes
And it seems I can’t live a day
Withouu
Cu
Closing my eyes and you chase my thoughts away
To a place where I am blinded by the light
But it’s not right
She began packing some clothes, mostly jeans and shirts. The training that
we would be receiving would require nothing less. Kagome had to say goodbye
to this phase of her life. The of her life with Inuyasha.
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything that I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing I tried to hold on to
Her heart ached at the thought of Inuyasha. She wants and needs to be
by his side. But he didn’t want her by his side. He wanted Kikyo. She
won’t give in and go back to him. Not this time.
And it hurts to want everything and nothing
At the same time
I want what’s yours and I
Want what’s mine
I want you but I’m not giving in this time
This was it. Her final goodbye to her life, her family, her friends and
her first love. She would love again but, it will take a lot of time to
get over him.
Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything that I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
The one thing that I tried to hold on to
And when the stars fall
I will lie awake
You’re my shooting star
Kagome made sure that she had everything to start her new life. Some of
her clothes, her CD’s and CD player, her favorite books and her favorite
DVD’s. That was it. Anything else she needed she would buy with the money
that she had saved up from her old babysitting job. She made her way
downstairs after her mom had gone to sleep. Kagome was pretty sure that her
mom would understand after she read the letter that Kagome would write her
after she was settled in her new life. This was the only way. She shut the
door quietly and walked quickly across the shrine grounds. Kagome turned
and looked back at her home.
