Bitter Winds

Two messengers had come to seek the help of our friends they were from two different villages and a jewel shard was suspect in both cases. The group left as soon as Kagome arrived from her time. It was decided that they would split up when the path diverged. They camped at the crossroads that night. It was the middle of winter and the ground was cold and hard, it didn’t make it easy to get any sleep and it was even harder to get up in the morning. As soon as it was light, Kagome had water ready for tea to warm them before they went their separate ways. Miroku, Sango, and Kirara went one way and Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo went the other, it was almost noon when . . .
“I sense a shard . . . Did it just get colder?”
“We’re heading into the mountains of course it’s getting colder!”
“Inuyasha! The shard is getting closer!”
As they traveled though the mountain pass, they all felt the temperature drop and the wind pick up blowing hard enough that Shippo needed Kagome to hold him to keep from getting blown away. Then they saw it. It was a shimmering translucent blue demon whose wings were a thin membrane that looked like crystal. He was quite breathtaking.
“What is that?!”
“WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS ASKING ME THAT?! IT’S A YOUKAI!(demon) . . . That’s all you need to know.”
He smirked and unsheathed Tetsusaiga.
“You can call me Taukan Gyakufuu(Bitter Wind)” The youkai laughed. Buffeting them with the strong wind, his wings stirred up.
“Eeww! Inuyasha the shard is in his tongue.”
Inuyasha waited for just the right moment before charging at his intended victim. Bringing the deadly sword down in a graceful arch that would sever its prey in two, only the sword didn’t make contact “What the . . . ” Inuyasha, cursed and tried to think of another course of action. Kagome stepped out further into the snow-covered clearing and quickly sighted down the arrow now ready on her bow. She was about to release her arrow when the ground suddenly gave way beneath her, with a sickening crack. The arrow was released as she fell. A sharp intake of breath was all that was heard from her as she fell through the ice. Her arrow found the demons wing and the demon was cursing as it fell to the ground. Inuyasha was about to make another pass at the demon when he heard Shippo yelling . . .
“Kagome!”
Shippo was frantically searching for some sign of Kagome in the frozen river.
“NANI?!(what) KAGOME!”
While Inuyasha was distracted, the youkai took this opportunity to pull the arrow out of his wing, and then turned to find out what the distraction was. Inuyasha got out of the way, as he sensed the demons attack, it had spit icy breath, but Inuyasha was not his intended target. The icy breath covered the hole in the ice, which Kagome had fallen through, and sealed it shut.
“NO!!! KAGOME!!!” “YOUR GONNA PAY!!!”
The enraged hanyou(half demon) wanted to tear that youkai limb from limb, he just wasn’t sure how.
‘How am I supposed to destroy something that has no substance? What would Kagome do?’
At that moment she was wondering that very thing.
‘What am I going to do?’
