Thanks for reading! Special thanks to Anon for your insightful comments. I really do appreciate suggestions and such and I try to use them to write better, more enjoyable stories. I think there will be one (maybe two) more chapters. Wish me luck!

It is very true that Kagome can be a bitch at times, especially when it comes to Kikyou. It’s nice to find a fic that addresses this fact and has her realize that some of her behavior is wrong/uncalled for. However, in (what I think I recognize as) an effort to right the wrongs you see in other fics, I feel you’re leaving out a few key facts in your own. I too am FAMOUS for this, so believe me, I understand! You see the same plot time and time again done WRONG, with potholes the size of Texas, and you go out of your way to put something out there that begins to correct the scales… If I am mistaken as to your motives, I am truly sorry, but it just seems that the fic stems from not only a challenge but also from a fed-up author who has endured more than their fair share of hair-pull-worthy plotlines.
As you write, please keep in mind that Kagome actually DOES have cause to be jealous, whereas Inuyasha only has suspicion. After all, he has witnessed first hand Kouga and Kagome’s most intimate moments. Even when she was kidnapped he had a good idea what occurred not only because Kagome was pretty forthright, but also Shippou was present for a good majority of the time. The fact that Shippou came running to Inuyasha to rescue Kagome told him that Kagome couldn’t possibly be thrilled with her captor.
The long and short of it is that Kagome *does* live in Kikyou’s shadow and it’s clear that Inuyasha still has feelings for his first love. He has every right to, but that has to be unsettling for a woman who is currently in pursuit of him.
I know I am telling you nothing you are not already aware of. But perhaps you could find a steady balance? After all, Kagome has never kissed Kouga and Inuyasha doesn’t live in the wolf’s shadow; he has no need to try to set himself apart as a separate entity. And as much as I think Kagome knows he cares for her as an individual, there is ALWAYS going to be insecurity in her heart as to his motives, sincerity, or love. He doesn’t really tell her with words that he cares for her, nor is he physically affectionate most of the time. It’s just the way he is… But that does make it hard for Kagome to find peace of mind – having to scrounge about for any sign that he cares. Her certainly protects her, but he also protects Shippou, Kaede, Miroku, and Kikyou. It’s not like his protection is for her alone. In fact, Inuyasha has told Kagome repeatedly that she is just a copy, she’s a bother, not as strong, she’s ugly, and that he sees her as nothing but a shard detector (at that point denying her even the status of ‘friend’). That’s a lot of damage to repair.
In your fic, I realize that Kagome was rubbing Kouga in Inuyasha’s face and he has every right to be pissed off about it. But I would imagine that her actions were born out of her own insecurities. You seem to acknowledge this in her talk with Kaede, but I would LOVE to see her discuss the way his past words have affected her self esteem with INUYASHA himself.
To sum up: you have a great fic. I think everyone is in really good character thus far, and you’ve certainly done a wonderful job on keeping your readers drooling for the next installment. I’m just trying to say that I would ADORE it if you could get them both to admit that they’ve made massive mistakes and start to come to some sort of resolution. If you could pull that off, I think you’d have a TRULY unique and amazing fic to your name. Not that it isn’t wonderful as is…
